An ancient pool, entirely carved in rock on the top of Sigiriya

Read and see more pictures here: Detailed Photo Essay on Sigiriya, or Lion's Rock, in Sri Lanka: Thoughts and Impressions of My Visit:
Chapter 1: 8916898.blogspot.com/2013/03/a...
Chapter 2: 8916898.blogspot.com/2013/03/a...
Chapter 3: 8916898.blogspot.com/2013/03/c...
There is a staircase at the far end of the pool (towards the center of the pyramid) carved in the granite rock and leading up from the water to the carved in the rock small platform, from which there is no exit. A second stairway leads to the right (along the smaller side of the pool) on the same platform with no exit located exactly at the same level. If you look carefully, you can see that floor of these platforms located exactly on the same level as the top edge of the fence surrounding the pool.
There is the only logical explanation -- these stairs with space-closed platforms were intended solely for the following: while swimming in the pool, you could quickly climb to the level above the fence and see -- what is happening outside there and is there happened something very important, worth enough to run from the water as to be bitten in an ass? I don't see any other explanation. But where shall you to look in that direction? Down? There is nothing interesting, just the jungle, the same as in all directions.
It is very interesting, that a coverage area from those platforms allows you to see the sky above the horizon from East over the ancient Polonnaruwa city (28 km as the crow flies, may be interesting for us because of ancient temple with polygonal masonry of megalithic blocks on the principle of processing all megaliths, i.e. cutting granite on the place like a knife through butter) to the South, in the direction of Adam's peak (Sri Pada mountain, 130 km as the crow flies).

Thank you very much for sharing this video. I was not able to go up the rock and you really gave me the sense of like "being there" that I love. I really enjoyed your questioning style and your attention to details. I was on a group tour and would not have had the luxury of that much time anyway. I will share your video with the others. Thank you again!

maybe there were hanging gardens above the pool that fed off it as an ancient hydroponic system and the stairs led up to a platform of the plants that has since been destroyed. I have seen in other videos on that rock top evidence of farming around the pool and maybe the pool was used for certain plant strains. Some of the brick walls around the pool seemed partially crumbled and were part of more structure as hypothesized by a previous commentor.

King Kashyapa was known to be a player. He loved his women. A walk thru Sigiriya and you would notice alot of points that proves this fact. It's either he had concubines up the stairs dancing and what not or he had his guards. He did live in fear. The throne was not rightfully his to keep

If you go in a rainy day you can see some of the water fountains in the bottom of the rock still working which is probably from the excess water.

beautifully built. The difficulty of carving a rock as hard as granite is extreme w/ ancient copper chisels & rock hammers but there are examples of this being done. They had a predesigned plan & acomplished it. What would interest me is how long did it take, was the whole pool basin polished and are there any tool marks on the inside to indicate the techniques/tool types used.

I think you'll find that the "pool" was made by a much older civilisation and then built on by younger ones. The younger generation may not of known what it was used for and maybe over the thousands of years earthquakes may have demolished the main buildings. I reckon the original civilisation was around 10,500 to 15,000 years ago and may have been wiped out in the Younger Dryas period.

it belongs to the old "first sangam" period (9600 BCE to 5200 BCE) pandiyan empire of KUMARI KANDAM CIVILIZATION !! Old Tamil Literature talks about it. Most of the kumari kandam land lost during the last ice age and under water now.

@ thukiya paatham: thank you for the information. I check it very briefly and indeed, there is more to it. Pandyan dynasty points me to Pangea, in other words, to our planet before the very first inundation and cataclysm of the last 12.000 years :-) I assume that you know that Shiva, the destroyer and transformer, is de facto Jupiter as a planet, whereas Indra was Jupiter as our (now extinct) binary brown dwarf.

History of Sigiriya Sigiriya may be the kingdom of Ravana who ruled the country maybe 3000 years ago. Rama from India defeated Ravana. Ravana was a undefeatable man. He can be defeated only with a particular weapon of Ravana. But who gave that weapon to Rama to kill Ravana and to destroy the entire kingdom? As the weapon belonged to Ravana Ravana´s stepbrother Wibhishana stole it and gave to Rama. So Rama killed Ravana. It is considered Sigiriya was the kingdom of RAWANA. Some believe that Ravana built the Sigiriya. After that Buddhist monk may have stayed there. After maybe 2000+ years of Ravana, Sigiri Kashyapa developed the Sigiriya as his own Kingdom in the 5th century AD. Kashyapa was the first son of the King Dathusena. However, the king wanted to pass the reign to his royal son, (second son Mugalan). Kashyapa was the first son but his mother was not from a royal family. To be fair to the King Dathusena, the royal advisors forced to have a Royal Concubine to strengthen his reign. Because the Kingdom was not stable after an invasion from the South India. Dathusena was the King who defeated the invasion by the South India. Before Dathusena, there were six south Indian kings (invaders) who ruled the country from Anuradhapura. However, due to a conspiracy by Migara who was the son of the sister of the King Dathusena, Kashyapa had to kill his father and took the crown by force. Migara, who was the Army Commander of the King Dathusena´s Army had a vengeance against the King because the King ordered to kill Dathusena´s own sister (Migara´s mother) as she was involved in a conspiracy to oust the King Dathusena. After understanding the death of Migara´s mother, his father also died due to a heart attack. Migara´s father was also a member of the conspiracy. Migara was married to the daughter of Dathusena. However, this daughter also (Kashyapa´s own sister) was from his first marriage, which took place before he became the King. The marriage between Migara and Dathusena´s daughter was not successful. There was also a feud between Migara´s mother and Daughter of Dathusena. Migara and his mother harresd Dathusena´s daughter. Both Dathsena and Kashyapa wanted to build another palace in Sigiriya. However, due to financial issues, Dathusena gave up the idea but Kashyapa did not. At the beginning, Kashyapa did not have an intention to become a king by killing his father because he knew that Mugalan was the right owner to the crown. Migara told Kashyapa if Kashyapa wanted to build the Palace on top of the Sigiriya, he had to become the King. Kashyapa believed it and he ousted the King Dathusena by force. But when he wanted to build the palace there was not enough money in the treasury. He asked for money from the deposed king Dathusena. As a part of Conspiracy, Migara told Kashyapa that there should be a great treasure of King Dathusena, who may have hidden it for Mugalan. Kashyapa believed it without knowing that it was a part of a conspiracy to kill Dathusena by Migara to get his vengeance fulfilled. The king Dathusena had built 18 large reservoirs and 18 large canals for irrigation and agriculture. These reservoirs and canals exist and function today itself doing great service to the country. Due to these reasons, there may not be enough money to build a new palace on top of the Sigiriya Rock. Due to unbearable harassments, Dathusena, the deposed king agreed to show the treasure by himself. Then Dathusena went to the Kalawewa (his largest reservoir) and showed that the reservoir was his only treasure. Migara knew perfectly there was no money in the king´s treasury but his all intention was to kill Dathusena he pretended a kind of fake anger and ordered to kill the deposed King Dathusena by walling him alive into the reservoir bund. By this time Kashyapa had have given full authority to Migara to do what he wanted to find the wealth of Dathusena. Kashyapa was so sick of finding money. On the other hand, Kashyapa also had a sort envy against the King Dathusena because Kashyapa may have felt ill-treated after Dathusena deserted the kashyapa´s mother. Dathusena invited Kashyapa´s mother to go to the place but she did not agree to go to the palace as she did not accept Dathusena´s second marriage. However, after killing his own father, Kashyapa withdrew from the Anuradhapura Kingdom and located his palace on top of the Sigiriya. The great irony was by the time of Dathusen´s death, merchants who did trades with India, Greece, China and old middle east countries had agreed to incur the total cost of the construction of the palace on the top of Sigiriya. Migara did not want the king to believe merchants as the intention of Migar was different. Migara tried to convince the King Kashyapa that the merchants might not be able to incur the cost of the palace. However, the King tried both options, either to find the treasure of Dathusena or sponsorship of merchants. At the end, King Kashyapa built the palace on top of the Sigiriya Rock. Mugalan went to India and returned after 20 years with an army from India to fight against Kashyapa. The fight started at the foot of the Sigiriya. During the battle, Kashyapa wanted to change his root tactically. However, Kashyapa´s Army assumed that the King was running away from the battle and the army too withdrew from the battle. Kashyapa was isolated and he had to commit suicide with his own sword. Then Mugalan took the crown and established his Kingdom again in Anuradhapura.

Ruwan Sampath Hindu Philosophy talks of "Yugas" . These Yugas span millions of years. Hindu Philosophy also has different definition of animals:it does not make a distinction in the way that Judaeo Christians do between humans and animals. if that belief is followed are we looking at a civilisation that spans many more years than what we recognise?

Great vids and blogs, subscribed. That rock supported by 'columns' ... defies common sense ... and dismantles official history. You sure it weights 2300 t? In many places around the globe, including Giza, most ancient work is also most advanced, huge megaliths perfectly fit ... and less advanced work afterwards. Same apparently applies here at the pool (those steps probably lead somewhere initially). I have lots to share too, same topic (Yonaguni, Gornaya Shoria, Planet Mars ...) and much more ... on my channel

This has been renovated by a local king around 1500 years ago but some say the oldest construction date backs to 4500 to 6000 years back according to Carbon dating. It's harder to say because there were many groups of early Humans who were there and used this place as a fortress.
