I was YakFace, and we both misplayed during our game. It has been a goal of mine to play against you for so long that I blundered in excitement the whole time. It was fun though! Keep up the good work CGB! The end to our game was the highlight of my week.

The desire to draw cards is just too powerful to resist.
that self-imposed mill death was so great and sad.
The rubblebelt is the region in ravnica ruled by the gruul, it’s basically a smashed area of the city that has returned to a wilderness environment

That moment at 33:57. Tough to see, but so hilarious and unexpected, you can't help but laugh at how ridiculous it is. I think CGB felt the same

How exactly did he die there? No good knowledge of these sets and was wondering
@MalaysianGov

@@n00b1am5 Totally. So CGB was quickly going through his 60 card library, which was buffing his creatures on the board as he tossed more of his cards into the graveyard. With 3 cards left in his library, CGB used Faerie Dreamthief's graveyard ability to draw 1 card, which would have left him with 2 cards in his library. However, the opponent used his Realmbreaker card at instant speed to first toss those last three cards into the graveyard. So when the Faerie Dreamthief ability then activated, CGB had zero cards left in his library. And if you can't draw a card because your library has zero cards remaining - you automatically lose. Tough break
This video was incredible. Not only does the deck seem incredibly fun to pilot, but that one game... which I'm not making any comments about... Absolutely hilarious XD
Your defeat against the "mill" deck was sooooo funny it caught everyone by surprise and lead to a great line hahaha
So interesting that this build has no "collect evidence" cards and no blitz cards. I would have assumed both mechanics would be the centerpiece of an Insidious Roots deck. But this build is super cool too.
@chiblast100x

It's hard to picture what 'collect evidence' cards one'd include in a Golgari roots deck. I can see an argument for Vitu-Ghazi Inspector and one for Hedge Whisperer, but even then they're going to be fairly inefficient at activating Roots compared to other methods.

I instantly thought of Tenacious Underdog. Cast it from the graveyard each turn for value + value?
@_Ve_98

Or the golgari adventure guy that lets you cast it from the graveyard. Still counts as a creature and casting still counts as leaving.
That realmbreaker game is one of the greatest match I ever seen in this channel.
"I just have to not stumble over the finish line" Mills himself to death lols
This might be the first standard deck where diabolic intent is actually pretty good in. Sacrificing filler is no problem and being able to find roots more consistently has been really sweet. Trying out 2 at the moment and it's been great

Case of skeleton, the token with tyvar it's mana too
I love this card. Took me a few versions of the deck before I built one that I liked, but even with losing a bunch of games, I still had fun making a million plant tokens. And it feels good being able to build this deck in so many ways.
I never thought it was possible to fly too close to the sun while you were rooted into the ground
I love the commentary about opening hands and the logic behind which cards to cast in which order.
11:16 "Guys, GUYS... I've never gardened so hard in my whole life" I died right there XD
“I’ve never gardened so hard in my life” LOL
"Shuffler is fine" reminds of a game I had where I where I drew four Worthy Knights, only to watch them all die, as soon as I played them to four go for the throats.
The rubblebelt is an area of the Gruul turf on Ravnica and the six eyed cat is a Makka. Its a callback to the Rubblebelt Makka card with bloodrush from older Ravnica sets!
Have to admit this was a fun one to watch live CGB. When this deck pops off it really goes off!
Man i just love your videos so much. I can only imagine how frustrating it has to be sometimes but you still deliver on entertaining me every single day. Thank you!❤
I really wanted to make this deck, and here you are with such a brilliant execution of it. Will definitely use your build as mulch for mine ^~^
I believe it was Hans Gruber who said "and Alexander wept because he tried to give his opponent -69" 😂
Lmfao at the mill death... possibly the best moment of yours I have seen in ages.
Saw this deck on your Moxfield and didn’t hesitate to give it a try. It’s rough on the land count but when it works IT WORKS
Love this deck! So fun seeing the Golgari synergies go off. Very satisfying.
That was so cool! Thank you CGB

Just found your channel and ive been binging your content. Wanted to say your opening is fire.
Nifty to see how you built it! I'll be putting up my own version soon, it's quite a bit different.
You looked happy playing this one. Was nice to see.
Wouldn't Mosswood Dreadnight be insane in this deck? Card draw, 100% okay sac fodder, and it removes itself from grave to trigger roots, and draw. God forbid tyvar is out, now you'd only need one more mana to play him back out as tyvar gives the token made by dread haste to recast dread... Immediately building this deck. As a Simic/Golgari/Dimir/Sultai enthusiast, this deck looks insanely fun! Keep up the amazing game play CGB!!

It's a little slow in the current format, and losing 2 Life isn't great given the speed element and often having to use life. Plus you don't get synergy with the Snarling Hound. It's not bad, but I think it adds clunkiness,
I played a version of this deck yesterday that had the channel turtle and they looped one from the hand and one in the graveyard in a sort of infinite loop, also had the soul couldron and a backup card that sacked to draw a card! was super cool
We’ve all been there, some more than others…victory in the bag and lost due to our own hubris. At least the control dream lives on….😂
The match that wont be named was such a good showcase of Magic the Gathering. Anything can happen in a match even when it looks decided.
That decking was AMAZING!!
I love golgari and I was pleased to see you enjoy it. This deck has a really janky feel to it due to sneaky effects. More of this please!
CGB showing yet again why you should never give up--there's always hope!
Love it! Easy craft -- all the MKM cards are common and uncommon, and I had most of the rares from older sets already!
Insidious Roots definitely my fav card from this set
Super fun deck!
very fun deck man! 👍
CGB make the content of your heart , we are here to support. :)
Grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory; my favorite!
Fun deck! Seems like adding 1 or 2 Wrenn and Realmbreaker would be great for this deck. Some mill to trigger and get stuff to play into your hand like a draw, mobilize lands for defense if needed, and if you can get the -7 emblem you can play things from your graveyard to trigger pretty much all the time.
It was very cool to see this deck grow into its own from a shaky start
That game against yak faces was one of my favorites I’ve seen in a while
Great video ❤
We're all rooting for you!

Ha! Nice pun.
Looks like a fun deck!
For your comments on facing aggro draws and flyers, having grisly sigils in place of annihillating glares, and maybe skyfisher spiders in place of pile on (more speculative), could help in both life-gain and keeping removal up for the deck. May be worth looking into.
you can use some unearth cards with this too, or even ozolith shattered spire for more exotism, some zombie stuff as well, very exciting deck that allows variety. The manabase can be honed as well, thanks to lands having graveyard interaction with pit of offerings for instance
CGB Rocks! Glad you’re back on the MTG Arena main channel too! Extra CGB == Awesome;
When the dream thief steals the ecstacy of victory from your grasp, us the audience weeps for you CGB.
Looks like a really fun and different deck. Missed out on calling this standard Golgari Gardens😎
I've had a lot of fun with Insidious Roots + Skeletons. Cult Conscript and Persistent Specimen can return from the graveyard for 1B and 2B respectively, while Corpses of the Lost buffs them up. Vraan drains the opponent, while Tarrian's Journal and Fanatical Offering act as sac outlets. Gix lets me draw, while Case of the Stashed Skeleton summons a skeleton token and lets me tutor when it dies.
Deck is really, really close to a budget deck.
Their out was my incompetence ! Well said
YakFace you provided cgb with a valuable lesson. Love you for that.

Happy my game was such a hilarious one. Been waiting so long to get paired against CGB. It was a bucket list moment for sure.
Undying love for anything golgari, life and death, timmy and the best color together again
I would love to see your take on Insidious Roots paired with Kaya, Spirit's Justice. There seems to be something there, and nice curve with 1-drop, Roots, Tyvar into Kaya Great video, from long time daily viewer
Mono red loves this deck - Etching of Kumano is a nightmare.
really cool deck, I brewed something like this just a few days ago, really cool interactions and it can really go ham, shame it probably isn't consistent enough for the ladder
7:58 the gingers are fighting back
Love the outro!
Im tempted to build this around Varolz the scar stripped for my casual 60card deck it would be funmy with every card in the deck having Scavange and every scavange use would give you a extra mana dork and surveil
CGB the Rubblebelt is cool! It's where the Gruul have their stomping ground
Big thank you for the hot tub mono-red video. It inspired me to trade my Phoenix chicks for Cacophony Scamps in my mono-red deck, and it got me to mythic today!!!!!! Thank you so much for producing your videos!!
Amazing!
Well you know the deal. You play golgari, I like the video.

Yup, those are the rules
Souls of the Lost actually has a great home in this deck. I know the exiling your own creatures is anti synergy, but it still gets plenty large with lands being milled, it counts both graveyards, and tyvar can play it for free to get around the downside. I've been liking it so far, went down some of the removal to add it in.
Maybe the best brew you have ever made. Congrats really
Love this deck
Heheh, I almost fell off the chair when CGB self-milled himself into the defeat 😂😂
Historic deck with Roots, moss - pit skeleton, tenacious underdog, cauldron’s familiar and witch’s oven
played historic with roots, yawgmoth, deathrite shaman and a lot of other small creatures. Worked fairly well
What a game versus realmbreaker 😄
Thanks CGB
That get lost on the plant token was absolutely insane with a Tyvar and roots on board
CGB is a Michigan fan? Heck yeah! Go Blue!
I would hate to pilot or play against this deck ib paper! 😅 Roots and Lazav are my top two favorite cards from this set. Dimir and Golgari might be able to make tier 1 decks again!
I’m not usually a big fan of Golgari, but this was a cool deck to watch.
This has seemed like a surprisingly impactful set on standard.
What an absolute banger of a video. Deck is cool, and...uh...the incident we say nothing about either.
In the version I’ve been playing I’ve had Dreadknights (adventuring out of the graveyard) and underdog (to blitz out each turn) as well as Shigeki (to instant speed mass trigger roots) and had assassin’s trophy instead of the glare. Will have to try to fit scrapgorger in though
Noooo CGB you flew to close to the sun with that dreamthief
Oh I have to try this
FINALLY A GOLGARI DECKLIST FOR THI NEW STANDARD LOVE U AND MY KEYBOARD BROKE I SWEAR I M NOT SCREAMIN 😂😂
I throw in a copy of on Shegeki, Jukai Visionary, I was able to make 2-3 plant tokens on my opponents turn at instant speed with an uncounterable channel effect and get creatures back into my hand. Plus it fills the grave and can be grabby by Tyvar
SORRY FOR THE BOOK, I just love this deck. I put this deck together and made a few alterations like some others may have suggested. underdog and mosswood dreadknight are absolute houses for triggering the enchantment. i found that the skyfisher spider (only 2) made for great removal and helped to get things in the graveyard like butler and rubblebelt when the opponent is wary of blocking, with a little added lifegain to help against aggro and reach is nice for small fliers like everyones favorite bat. also took out the gorehounds, I wasnt able to play it on curve often bc of the land situation and it really doesnt do much of anything by itself, very sad topdeck, so i replaced all 4 with 3 glissa and 1 assassins trophy to help with all the pesky enchantments running around. I straight up dont have any teachings of kirin so 0 copies in my version. Also no scrapgorgers in my list either, I found id rather be recurring creatures than exiling them from my yard permanently. Such a cool deck and gameplan, thanks for the inspiration!

Hey, someone else who likes to run roots with dreadknight and skyfisher! I also like throwing in one of each of the green and black Ojers since they're strong enough to be dangerous on their own but also a free trigger if they die. Makes for really good removal bait since people tend to (wrongly) assume those cards are the center of my game plan.
MKM just introduced a new Golgari surveil land in this set. I know it's a tapped land, but it still seems good for this deck.
I have a few cards that I think could fit, the first is mosswood dreadknight, because it can exile itself for cheaper than dreamthief and does effectively the same thing but can recur itself. The next is deathbonnet, becauseit can mill, make itself big, and remove creatures from your graveyard at a one mana investment, and the last one is Another Chance, which can put creatures into your graveyard and put creatures from your graveyard to your hand. Also you could use chalk outline as a backup for insidious roots, but it is more expensive and objectively worse.
"I hate it when I am always right!" and then INCOMPETENCE in the dojo!!! 🤣

ROFL!!!!! That was hilarious.... I don´t want to spoiler it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I weakly tried Insidious Roots with a Dollhouse return-from-graveyard deck, but this seems much faster. And so many commons + uncommons that make the magic happen.
CGB snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
