It's a good idea, except your upkeep for all the extra foundations might not be ideal.

It should take power to charge it and you can turn off and on the electric charge if needed. But It will take hella power and if one wall is broken the rest of them will not work. It should take Around 1.5k metal frags, 1 electric fuse, 1 sheet metal, and a wiring tool or 5 high qual

Looks killer, but I really appreciate the no added upkeep from high walls. Will probably try this for my auto dealership though.

An extremely important note that I learned the hard way over time. If you shoot through one layer of chain-link, your bullet does not go straight. The further the bullet travels AFTER passing through the chain-link, the less straight it will fly. Don't take my word for it, test it out on build sever. This is the biggest downside to having too much chain-link on your roof, because long-distance shots become much, much, much more difficult even if you are aware of how the bullet "ricochets" off the fence.

its curves left or right depending on the angle youre looking at. if you shoot perfectectly perpindicular to it, your bullets will go straight. not useful, just clarifying

@@sylermurphree7477 if you are ever perfectly looking straight into it, and it’s not at an angle on your base (roof, gatehouse, etc) it’s probs an awful base to start with most of the time. Or took too long to line up, such a disadvantage to shoot out of, and nearly 0 repercussions for enemies shooting back at you. Even at 5 metres bullets arnt accurate.

This is an extremely interesting idea. Im planning on learning how to make big farm bases next and this seems like the perfect way to protect the exterior of it.

@@delusion3049 If you're building a wide-gap shooting floor, there's no reason not to use the fences I guess.

way more setup than walls, cheaper to break through, turrets firing through this is pretty cool though

Could add another layer of protection.... if you were to add regular high walls, would you prefer to have high walls inside or outside this fence barrier? My gut would say do high walls with external TC's first, then an inner layer of fence walls, especially if you have turrets, as there is some protection from the high walls.

Actually enjoyed your commentary, great vid. Thought those were modded fences at first because of the shipping container skin lol

I've put them behind the wall, where it can't be seen, works pretty well

yeah after i saw first time your video about laddering vs pipes i defenetely started thinking about something similar to this. one notice to all, if you are shooting straight through the fences its allright, But if you are shooting through the fences with some angle to your enemies. U need to practice a bit, cause u need to understand how bullet traectory changes. Its really work super interesting. U should make somekind deflection before shooting with angle

Fence is great for turrets, but terrible as external wall. Better to use blockers the same as you do on a fence on a stone high external. Fence is extremely cheap to break, they can just 1 HV rocket from a safe distance or use ~20 explo form a SAR at safe distance. Use double fence layer to protect turrets and position them so they can't be shot from farther away than the turret range. Additionally you can protect them with armored double doors that auto-open with sensors but it takes more power and is complicated.

I have actually done this not as well as your demo but in a water compound 😂 the raiders ended up reporting me for exploiting with the fences admin said it was okay to do they just had to try harder 😂 lets just say I woke up to no foundation 😅

they should just make it an external high wall skin. with the new adobe skins i dont see why not. just have them not be able to be shot through at all

Note -- you can build 3 fences... kinda. You do the normal as in video, but for the 3th layer you use pipes to hide how it looks inside your base. It does take forever to set up tho.

@@leecast1721 Yeah they should be still able to, unless they changed it in recent patch as they are Ai controled and Ai can see via cables and pipes.

What if you install embrasures on top of the fences? You’d have to add twig on each side first but are you able to place metal embrasures on top of each frame above the fence? Similar to the way you install a windmill on a frame? Does that work?

Would be cool if you could put wolves and bears in your compound to protect not just to be there I’ve trapped all of them but they won’t attack anyone once inside the compound

I've been trying to get Facepunch to host an actual event with skins and shit where we do like bear, boar, and wolf clan. Spoonkid could lead chicken clan or something too. We'll see if the pet system ever gets integrated too!

Its really cool and I will try it at some point, but its nothing compared to the 4 rockets of protection and NO UPKEEP of a stone wall compound. This might make a really cool outer china-wall type thing but it just too weak to justify anything but the fact that it looks cool.

Actually would really like if they could just make them a deploy the same way as walls. I don't think I've ever seen a base use them as defense.

Can't the raider simply destroy the deployable lights or piping?

How much is it to destroy the pipe combiners? I dare say that’s a cheap alternative to bypassing. And can you place twig floors on the top of the wallframe that has pipes cos if so boosting or floors with the ladder on the edge of them is an option to get over it also.

ok so, what if you put this on top of a 3x3 as the 2nd or third level with a revolver in it?

you dont have to open the door to shoot through, you can just shoot through gaps in the doorway

I think it's just a good cheap alternative for keeping your stuff safe from roamers. If someone wanted to raid you, they would do it even if you had stone walls. and also, it's good anti doorcamp because you can see all around your base. And nobody can approach because of your turrets, and people won't be able to break your turrets for free weapons.

To raid them with explosives, sure. But they can eat a few HV rockets before breaking OR allowing splash damage onto the turret. As well as the fact that if raiders do spend the 1 real rocket per chain-link, that can add up quickly if you understand how to layer the fencing correctly. By far one of the most under-utilized building strategies there are.

@@nicholaspatton7195 thats true i def my base in solo with miami peeks and each the time when raiders did it from the raiding base in front. i just restore fences and repair frames. They just wasting rockets and bullets to me, while im shooting them with bolt rifle or L rifle. miami peeks are useless only when 4+ raiders against u, cause they can rocketing super fastor they have a line of loaded rocket launchers each.

have any of you guys ever onlined, or been onlined in a medium to large defendable base? none of your points make sense, its more expensive, less defendable, and cheaper to raid. its a cool rough concept that needs alot of work, but it is not a good alternative to high walls

@@quill9617 i can tell u with my 2,5k hours that all walls, funnel wall, as well are sucks and no point to build them. They boom as fast as raiders want it. Much complicated to make a normal compound with them without holes and not to ruine compound with them at all. u can't prove me that high stone wall is bery useful... gates - sure. really useful , but not walls...

@dustgg I would really like to see a base with this system all around the base, so if anyone got time and like this alternative, I would really appreciate if anyone could mess around with it and maybe built a solid 2-4 man base. Ty

whats up with the industrial pipe running along the top? does that block ladders? couldnt you just break the industrial combiner to get rid of them, that would be really simple

Would it work if you extend the pipes down vertically as well, like instead of using the lights? My server's loading up as I type, might test it.

Oh it totally works. Pipes can go thru the fences as well. Have the components inside and run the pipes all over the place. Go ahead and use the different colours if you want it to be extra jazzy :)

You don't need to put the lights to keep people from laddering, you put your pipe on the lights, and then you remove your lights and save yourself. A bunch of metal and they can't ladder on the pipe. That's hovering in there, and that works on all offenses including high walls and building sides.

Break the pipe combiner, ladder, GG you're in

Could you place the 2 fences closer together and it still work or does there have to be sufficient space between them? Like if you places the fencing on both sides of a foundation would it still work?

Can you remove a fence? EZ raid disruption if you can throw fences in, even where ga rage doors are to slow down raiders -you dont have to bu ild, and you dont have t4o put a lock down.

if no turrets, they would have to waste time breaking cheap deployables to eventually get up onto your door, the fences are not fool proof, it's just another way to defend base, I'm not trying to make the argument of what's better or not, up to you guys to decide that.

rust needs more diversity when it comes to building. the only thing i think needs to be changed is remove turrets shooting through 2 layers or make it so players can shoot through 2 layers

I thought you were going to forget the whole point, that the turrets can shoot through the double fence which would mean, the chance of a raider blowing up your first row of fences quite unlikely. Use highwalls to funnel a raider to climb over or blow up then the turret kills them. Good video on the exploit, how long will it last....???

learn to garden, grind sheet metals, flame raid for resources, BUY IT from outpost, make shop to trade for it, frames can span two cells like you see on external tc stacks, stone quarry, ESCAVATOR COUNTER, live in 1x2 and don't play game at all...

it would be nice if facepunch gave us more deployable fencing wood is just barely helpful for keeping out nakeds now that we have molotovs and stone is nice but also expensive and a really simple means to make this wire fence system better would be to let us hook up electricity to it and just make it an electrical fence that damages the shit out of you if you try to climb on it, ladder or no ladder.

Pretty much any tool/weapon will destroy the industrial combiner in melee in a few swings. Guns can shoot it out in 3 seconds with normal ammo. It's completely useless, especially combined with the very low durability, yeah explo ammo it's strong against unless you know where to shoot. And you didn't shoot at the best spot, it can be done with a lot less than you used to destroy it. It's nearly only 1/10th as strong as a high stone wall with added costs in the form of upkeep.
