    Hey, haven’t really asked anyone but this industry seems quite interesting for when i move onto and begin my a levels; was also thinking about the same subjects. 1. What grades do you recommend for choosing this path at gcse 2. Were your a levels enjoyable/reasonably difficult - especially since it all ties in with mathematics

    @@tonkzs hey. I chose mathematics economics and Physics. When I finished my GCSES i didn't know what to do with my life and didn't know what I wanted to be. However after completing economics and mathematics at A-Level I knew I wanted to become a chartered accountant. I 1000% recommend maths and economics/business and anather subject. I enjoyed mathematics and economics but I didn't like physics at all hence my grade was so bad 🤣.

    @maanav patel If you want my two pence on this. Firstly minimum you need is 5 GCSEs at pass grade to get in to a school leaver programme. Secondly, at A-levels do something you enjoy, I made the mistake of going for subjects which I thought opened up my career options (Maths, Biology, Chemistry) then realised that only mattered if you were going to study that particular subject at university or if you went into a career like medicine. Maths I found ridiculously hard and in my ten odd years experience haven't used anything I learnt at A-level maths as part of my work. Check out my vid on Do you have to be good at maths to become an Accountant? So if you want to study Business, Economics, and Accounting say at A-level go for it. Someone will say to you they are very similar don't do that, however the only thing you should be interested in is getting the best grades possible so study subjects which are similar so that helps you in the long run i.e. less content to revise for and if you're good at the subject or enjoy it that definitely helps! 80-90% of what you learn at school will have no relevance or use in the workplace.

    Hi Faizan I'm currently going to study accounting A level along with 2 other subjects at college. My accounting a level will be equivalent to an AAT level 3-level 4 qualified accountant. With AAT close to all employers will accept you due to you having the necessary skills to work in the accounting sector. Rather than studying ACA or CIMA for years you could easily go into employment with an AAT qualification becoming an assistant accountant earning 25-30k with your salary rising as you go up positions to a management accountant etc I'm using this loophole instead of trying to get an ACA or CIMA which is much more time consuming and difficult. Many thanks

  • @FehzanMehdi

    @FehzanMehdi

    Agreed that the AAT is easier than a chartered qualification however you’ve got to remember that your earnings are most likely to be capped with the AAT when you reach a certain point. With a chartered qualification you earn more and salary is not capped at a certain level.

    Yes you can do the only issue with apprenticeships after gcses instead of a levels are that they tend to be shorter after one year but yes after completing the aat level 4 you can go on to study for the ACA qualification. You may find you’ll have to work somewhere else like a bigger firm / organisation to secure a training contract to complete the chartered qualification.

    Hello, I am planning on doing an Accounting and Management course with a paid, full time, 1 year work placement and I've been informed that once I complete this accredited degree programme I will be a partly qualified CCA, in this case do you still think it is worth doing?

  • @FehzanMehdi

    @FehzanMehdi

    3 жыл бұрын

    You've got a few factors to consider, I always recommend school leaver or apprenticeships first, then if that doesn't work out for someone, university is a good option. If your course is due to start in January or September 2021, I'd recommend you apply for school leaver programmes whilst holding this university offer. School leaver programmes give you the opportunity to become qualified without the massive debt! The second factor you've got to consider is the cost. Your tuition fees and materials will be around £30k, and after your placement year where you will earn around £18k a year, if you paid off £5-10k of that debt you can still expect to have around £20k as a minimum. If you have living costs, then your debt will be much higher. You also mentioned you will be part-qualified ACCA, that's because the course you are doing will give you exemptions. It costs to apply for exemptions, approx. £100 per exam. If you have say 10 exemptions then you will pay around £1,000 for those exemptions. Again, another cost! Hopefully, it's clear that with the university option, debts can easily rack up! I know a lot of people who won't take their exemptions. When you sit the final stage of the ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or ICAS there will be a lot of prior knowledge required. If you take exemptions, then you won't sit the relevant exams and may find there's a big gap between the time you spent at university and the final stage of the ACCA, therefore you will have to re-visit the knowledge covered anyway. On the other hand, if you don't take the exemptions you will sit those exams, and the knowledge will be fresh in your mind. I wouldn't pay too much focus on the exemptions. At the end of the day whether you sit your ACCA exams, or go through it at university, you will cover off the required knowledge somewhere. The placement year is good, because if you get a placement at a large company and impress you can secure that graduate offer and don't have to worry about finding a job in your final year. As I don't know the full details about the course or university, in shaa allah the limited advice is good enough. I'd recommend you apply for school leaver programmes in the meantime, if you get a role then go for it! If you like the job then you will progress to become a qualified accountant within 5 years, and if you don't like it then you can go to university and study whatever you like, but you will know that accountancy isn't for you. The biggest issue I see with university is you've got to stick at it for it to be worthwhile. If you leave after 1 or 2 years, then apart from student debt you don't have much to show for it, whereas with a job at least you will get experience and save some money at the same time! Let me know if you have any further questions!

    2 жыл бұрын

    If the technicals level 3 is worth ucas points and overall you manage around 112 then yes you should be fine! Doing a mix of a levels / btec / other shouldn’t matter. Most firms will only take top 3 a levels so if your Cambridge is worth 2 then they will only take another a level into account.

  • @FehzanMehdi

    @FehzanMehdi

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yh you could without doing a-levels or btec. I’d advise doing them because you have something to fall back on rather than putting your eggs in one basket, but you could do AAT either as an apprenticeship or at college and build your way up from there. The exams are difficult but it’s because they are time pressured not because the content is difficult to understand. So when I was training I found the AAT was a great junior qualification to begin with as it eased me into my learning. I had no prior accounting experience either

  • @Isobel2002

    Hey so I’ve only got GCSEs but not alevels so would it be a good idea to do the aat level 3 now and then after do the level 4, then 5,6,7 - if they all take around 18 months then it’ll take like 7.5 years to complete everything to be a chartered accountant right? Could I just stop at say level 5 and then get a regular job and not an apprenticeship? If you’re doing accounting apprenticeships for 7.5 years then you’ll be on minimum wage - how can you survive on that for so long? Thank you

  • @FehzanMehdi

    @FehzanMehdi

    2 жыл бұрын

    So firstly, there is no 5,6,7 of the AAT - once you complete level 4 of the AAT you move on to the ACA or another chartered accounting qualification and yes once you've completed level 4 of the AAT that's a standalone qualification so you can stop there and earn a salary of around £30k / year dependent on experience and progress on to a manager with experience. Not all apprenticeships offer minimum wage!

    well an apprenticeship with a chartered accountant qualification such as the ACCA is known as a level 7 apprenticeship - I assume it goes from level 4 - level 7 as ACCA doesn't have individual stages which are recognised as level 5-6 equivalents. Again, I could be wrong. Once you have completed level 4 you will be moved on to the ACCA or equiv. qualification if you are on Level 7.

  • @FehzanMehdi

    It depends on the reason for studying, if you’re doing it purely to improve your career opportunities then I would not recommend it. You are paying a lot in fees, and it won’t necessarily improve your chance of securing a job. I’d recommend becoming a qualified accountant first, as this is the equivalent of a Masters and is much more highly regarded. The only qualification truly worth studying is the MBA and even that’s truly effective when you’ve got a few years managerial experience, so no point in studying that straight after your degree.

  • @FehzanMehdi

    @FehzanMehdi

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@johnnyj1969 Thanks but I have to disagree with your professor, they're essentially asking you to study for another year for a qualification which isn't going to add much value to the ACA, ACCA or whichever accounting qualification you wish to pursue and on top cost you another £12k approximately in tuition fees. Furthermore, by having this masters it won't put you into a better position than other grads who don't have a masters when applying for graduate programmes. A few years ago, I spoke to the University of Liverpool as they ran a Masters in Accountancy course in London, and they advised me against it because Masters are typically targeted at students of those countries where a Masters is seen as the minimum requirement to getting a decent job, and I had already covered the content in my ACA qualification. Apart from COVID-19, and not wanting to "waste" a year there doesn't seem to be any reason for studying the Masters. You're better off getting any job and saving a few thousand pounds, whilst also applying for grad programmes for 2021 entry. Like I said before, the only post-grad qualification worth pursuing is the MBA as it improves your earning potential and there are schemes targeted at those with MBAs. But MBA comes after many years' of work experience.

    I wouldn’t say it’s easy as these schemes are very competitive but you should definitely apply! It’s a great experience! In terms of number of opportunities available, this depends on the scheme and the employer. Large employers have bigger intakes. Most if not all of the Top 10 accountancy firms, should have programmes you can apply for. In terms of requirements that again depends on each programme but you’d most likely need 5 gcses at pass grade and a levels or equivalent at 120 UCAS points

If you had level 4 AAT you may have been able to study in Year 2. Best thing is to email the university admissions team as each university will have its own requirments.

    Salaam, when you say qualified accountant do you mean chartered accountant. Secondly, when applying for a school leaver which area and field is best to go into: internal or external audit, tax, assurance and other areas. Can you still become chartered when completing the school leaver getting the AAT and moving onto ACA/ACCA/CIMA. I don’t understand when applying because I see school leavers such as audit school leaver or accounting and business advisory school leaver or tax school leaver. For a chartered accountant don’t you need all of these not just 1 specific area. Thanks for you time

  • @FehzanMehdi

    @FehzanMehdi

    3 жыл бұрын

    Wa alaykum as Salam So when I say qualified accountant that’s either a Management Accountant or a Chartered Accountant. If you study for the CIMA qualification then you’re a Management Accountant. If you study for the ACA / ACCA / ICAS you’re a chartered accountant. This includes the AAT-ACA route which I did. So I have both the AAT and ACA qualification. I trained in external audit but it’s entirely up to you. I’d recommend external audit but others may not. Tbh if you get into any route that’s a big achievement because they’re so competitive. Yes you also become a chartered accountant completing a school leaver programme. A degree has nothing to do with it. The main thing you’ve got to look at is what qualification each route is offering. So internal audit may offer the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) qualification. This qualification does not make you a qualified accountant. Finally you don’t need to work in tax, audit, accounts etc. to become a chartered accountant but you will study all of these as part of your qualification. In shaa allah let me know if I’ve missed anything out!

  • @talhahali6218

    @talhahali6218

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@FehzanMehdi jazakallah So if I went through the internal audit school leaver and did the AAT for 2 years then did 3 ears ACA OR ACCA does that make me a qualified accountant or chartered accountant. So the school leaver doesn’t make me a qualified account it’s the 3 years of experience in ACA OR ACCA to be qualified. In this ACA/ACCA will it cover all the different areas e.g. audit, assurance, tax, e.t.c

  • @FehzanMehdi

    @FehzanMehdi

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@talhahali6218 With regards to your first point it would make you both qualified and a chartered accountant. I only say qualified accountant because I don't want to exclude Management Accountants who studied for the CIMA qualification. Your second point a school leaver programme will make you a qualified / chartered accountant, because you will have the required experience once you've completed your exams. Your final point, yes as part of the ACA / ACCA, you will cover all the areas you said. Please watch my video on How to become a Chartered Accountant - ACA Route.

    So first of all I wouldn’t say focus on what you need to do to become a dealership accountant because by the time you’re 18 or 21 or even older your career plans may change. This happened to me a lot which is natural as you experience new things your mind will change. So to become an accountant you need to study for either a Management or Chartered qualification. I recommend chartered and you can watch my video on Chartered vs Management to understand why. If you do a school leaver or grad programme I would focus firstly on getting a qualification with a top firm ie the big 4 or top 10! Once qualified then you can focus on your career path, ie make plans to go on and become an accountant at a dealership or go and try something else! The main thing is by training at a top firm you will have a solid foundation to go and do whatever you like!

    Yes so if you’re doing a btec so long as it’s the equivalent of 3 a levels and you secure around 112 ucas points you can join a school leaver programme or grad programme after university. Don’t have to study a particular subject to become an accountant. Just avoid general studies!

    Yes so you can start a Level 2 / 3 AAT Apprenticeship at the age of 16 after completing your GCSEs. Or you can do your a-levels / BTEC and go into a school leaver programme which is better because of increased pay and the opportunity is with a larger organisation, so better for your career in the long term!

    Depends on what course you’re referring to? If it’s one at your local college say after gcses you won’t become a chartered accountant with that. You need to study for a qualification like the ACA
