Then in the quarter-finals they beat hosts Germany and in the semi-finals eliminated 2018 world champions France. Here's how England did yet they get to the final 🤣. Win against Serbia but then they drew against Denmark and Slovenia. Switzerland knocked out the reigning champions easily. The Dutch drew with France. Slovenia drew 0-0 with Portugal. You don't just turn up and smash teams. Doesn't happen. It is not a game of Fifa. France have the best squad and scored 1 goal from open play in 6 games. It's not that easy.

Even going back through Southgate’s previous tournament match wins, its a collection of set-piece goals and penalty shootouts. And those are down to individuals, rather than a team.

The Dutch are very good and drew with france. It is NOT a better squad than what we've had before. It is a good squad but we've had better. Southgate has been there a long time because he has been so good. He deserves another world Cup if he wants it. He has expertly guided us to a final again. That's the reality you need to understand. Nobody is going to open up against us and when the Dutch did in the first half look what started to happen. France have the best squad and scored 1 goal from open play in 6 games. The criticism on Southgate is harsh.... (a) he has consistently taken us to the knockout stages (b) no Euro or WC is won in the group stages and Southgate knows the group stages are purely something you mathematically need to get through unscathed and without injuries. The substitutions dont always come quick enough, I agree. However, his substitutions have worked and done the job when he has used them. I dont get how you can knock the guy tbh.

If England wins it has nothing to do with Southgate. You can't get it wrong with the talent we have. He has a better entire squad than previous England managers. It's not Southgate. It's a good squad but there are 3 or 4 at least as good. Plus every team is better than they used to be. Better coaching and organisation. You Don't just turn up and smash teams...look at France best squad and managed 1 goal from open play in 6 games. Southgate is a legend for guiding us the final

Spain have played against top teams this euros that have also played attacking football so the games have been more exciting and open meaning more goals. Whereas we had statistically easier opponents, but had harder games because of our opponents tendancies to just defend deep and hope to fashion a counter -attack. Hence WE played much better against Holland

Southgate deserves much worse. He started at a time when a generation of super talented players were coming through. He has been blessed with the luckiest easy draws in history. Out of his depth. The worst manager at this level I've ever seen!

@@SimonFlynn-un1ur That has to be idiot comment of the day. I'm 50 and I remember when we had great managers but tougher draws and weaker squads. Robson had to rely heavily on his two world class players in Italia 90 (Waddle & Gazza)...He didn't have too much on the bench and then had to get past a great German team..... Do you think a huge club like Barcelona are going to come for Southgate like they did for Robson & Venables? Y/N?

We will look back on Southgates reign and think what might have been with a decent manager.

Southgate definitely brought a feel good vibe for England overall. Under McClaren, Capello and Hodgson was awful to watch.

England played the way we wanted England to play and Holland played like England have been playing all tournament.

WTAF,.these TS pundit-collective[espec. Goldstein,Cundy,O'Hara,Gabby & Rory Jennings] have been in the forefront of the S'gate disrespect and if the latter gets his 'strategy' right against the Netherlands tonight,they will become his hypocritical (two-faced) 'cheerleaders' until Sunday match against Spain ! 😂😂

Even if we win the tournament doesn't mean anyone's criticism of southgate isn't warranted, these players without a manger should be making semis, it's clear that other top teams have more intensity about them, the quality on the ball is there to see, we haven't seen it from England yet, and the trent in midfield and foden out of position and no LB could still be a huge mistake, and no subs when we've been awful and it's the brilliance of the individuals we have that we even qualified for the quarters. Nothing to do with tactics.

i'm not a fan of Southgate, but lets face it where we are now is better than where we before Southgate. he's definitely had his upside, and i hope that he wins the final.

Cundy fans criticise their own teams all the time but they dont like to do it in front of opposition fans but its used as ammunition against themselves. We all want our teams to win trophies but we also want to do it with a bit of style and playing good football. England have in recent times done well in competitions but the performances have not been good. This can't be hidden or glossed over.

Thr only thing southgate has done is has seperate club football with international football. I heard a story from john terry that ehen england met up chelsea players would stay with the chelsea players liverpool players man utd ect........ I agree with gabby england have the best squad and weve scraped our way through.

At this point i dont see the point attacking southgate any more. i wouldnt have had him in charge at the start of this tournament but he has proven me wrong. yes we have been shocking. but.. il take another final, you cant do much more than that. i feel like we maybe could have done better with a different manager but i just cant stick the boot in on southgate anymore.
