Her snub for her performance in “Arrival” still stings to this day. It was arguably her best performance and somehow the Oscar’s found a way to ignore her smh.

I do agree with you. Still, an Oscar probably commands better pay and even more choice for parts. And honestly, a woman’s shot for parts is probably much more limited than a man’s due to age. Tho the range is widening just a touch, we know that once one looks 40-you get Moms and grandma roles.

It’s amazing how she shines by really blending into the movie, not making the role about herself -which is what the Academy apparently rewards. She appears as Debra Messing’s sister in a silly little movie called The Wedding Date -and she’s effing great. She creates an actual character from whatever script she’s handed.

I think there were 2 factors behind Amy Adams Oscar snub for Arrival. 1. Amy Adams had both Arrival and Nocturnal Animals being campaigned for Best Actress and neither of the distribution companies were willing to back down to allow Amy to campaign for just one movie, which ultimately led to a vote split between the two performances. I think the same happened to Sidney Poitier when he was snubbed for Best Actor for both Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and In The Heat of The Night. 2. After the #Oscarsowhite controversy the year prior, there definitely a lot of pressure to nominate more actors of color and probably the main reason behind Ruth Negga’s nomination. I personally thought they never needed to overcompensate that much, especially considering there were an abundance of great black films like Fences, Moonlight, and Hidden Figures. The actors from all of their respective films were practically locks to get nominated and all were very deserving too. I personally would have picked Amy Adams over Ruth Negga or Meryl Streep.

Not only is she one of the greatest actresses of our time, she's also such a humble human being -a rare quality in Hollywood, if you ask me, that Amy Adams shares with living legends like Kate Winslet, Toni Collette or Marion Cotillard. Whenever she's on screen, Amy (or any of the women I just mentioned, for that matter) only has one goal: honoring the character she's playing. No matter the performance, we never see an actress showing off. We just see a full character coming alive thanks to her talent and her dignity. It's never about her ego, or about getting recognition, or begging for awards attention (unlike Blanchett or Chastain... but that's a different conversation). Speaking of which, Adams should've won at least two Oscars by now: Best Supporting Actress for her subtle work in "Doubt" and Best Lead Actress for her exquisite performance in "Arrival". And before you say what you're about to say: yeah, I know. I just chose to live in an alternate universe in which Amy Adams was nominated (and won) for her most glorious performance in "Arrival". By the way, in my universe, Toni Collette was also nominated (and she obviously won) for "Hereditary". Meryl Streep was also nominated (and won) for "The Hours". And Kate Winslet has won pretty much everything she's ever been nominated for. 😊

Thank you for mentioning her subtle acting, she embodied the character which rarely "seen" cause its not like "acting it out". I love her in "Doubt" too but my fav is "Sharp Objects". She's indeed one of the most humble actress in Hollywood, no wonder Marion Cotillard and many actors and directors that ever work with her adore her so much, in most of interviews (when promoting her movies during award season campaign) she always shy when people praise her works and deflecting by praise and talk about her castmates. Ashton Kutcher even point that out to take the compliment and celebrate herself instead of give credit to her castmates.

But even if she had an oscar and many noms she should had more. Would like to have a kate winslet video, too. Hope it will come in the future. P.S: I hate that she was agaibst herself in The Reader and Revolutionary road. I still think rev. Road wpuld be her victory and tje reader was ruahed finished to secure the awarfs run, but if the reader had come a year late, she would had won back to back, cause she eadil would had won against sandra bullock. Sorry for all the lovers, but kate woukd easily beat her with the reader, too.

She certainly has the right attitude. The TV/movie business is extremely tough and fickle... the fact that she's been steadily working and succeeding should be more than enough. The awards/nominations... I suppose for anyone in the biz, formal recognition means a lot but then there are plenty of those who's won the top honors and we've never heard from them again...

The problem Amy always seems to have, is she is nominated for the wrong roles or snubbed (Nocturnal Animals, Arrival) and where she is nominated she is never going to win because of timing. Take Doubt, nominated against her co-star Viola Davis, the vote there would likely be split cancelling each other out. The fighter the narrative and publicity behind Melissa Leo too difficult to overcome. Blue Jasmine, how do you beat Cate Blanchett and her it's ''her time narrative''. There are always a lot of mitigating factors as to why she can easily grab a nomination, but falls just shy of the finish line, very much the Glenn close of her generation. Someone always has a louder and bigger machine behind them, in a career defining role (Regina King). Equally her recent choices have been rather lacking in the prestige or overall strength of her earlier work, somewhat damping her chances and dimming her overdue narrative. She needs a good script, strong performance and a quiet year and she will get there, see Jessica Lange in Blue Skye or Renee in Judy.

One of my theories on why Amy Adams was snubbed for Best Actress was because unfortunately the producers for both her movies were campaigning her against herself for Best Actress. She can’t pull a Kate Winslet and campaign her roles for both Lead and Supporting and hope for the best. If the producers for Nocturnal Animals stepped aside and helped campaign their actress for another movie, then I think she could have gotten nominated. But of course, movie producers won’t waste their resources campaigning another movie. It’s kind of like why Sidney Poitier wasn’t nominated in either Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and In The Heat of The Night. He probably vote splitter himself during the nomination process (it also didn’t help that he was competing against his co-stars Rod Steiger and Spencer Tracy!) which is a travesty! Mr. Tibbs is probably one of the most iconic heroes in movie history!

Leo happened to win in a year when his opponents were much weaker (Does anyone even remember the Bryan Cranston and Mark Ruffolo movies?🤔) However, EVERY single time he’d lost prior he was up against acting heavyweights, who had put in hugely lauded performances (Tommy Lee Jones, Forest Whittaker, Matthew McConaughey & Jamie Foxx) Plus, another thing is Leo literally campaigned for his award like he was running for office (LOL) - Which of course highlights the ridiculous politics and I guess desperation it takes for some to garner a Oscar win

I find sometimes if an actress is in a movie that is too genre-y, they dont get nominated no matter how good they are. There are so many of her films that are among my favorites even movies that are not critically acclaimed or overlooked like Leap Year, Julie and Julia, are so charming I can watch over and over again. I just believe that she’s among the select few who are the best actresses of her generation. I really expected her to win for Arrival. That year, having been so great in 2 movies, she was definitely snubbed for not even being nominated. Sharp Objects should have won her multiple awards. Sharing an award was fine but I think that project was deserving of much more for her contribution alone. Her performance was masterful, and remains a haunting character thanks to her.

The thing with Amy for me is that 1) She just can't get the public behind her: no matter how great she is, the narrartive (which doens't really mean merit) is always on somebody else. She was snubbed for The Arrival and that became a talking point, but previous to the snub that wasn't a movie people were raving about outside of cinephiles and/or genre fans clubs. Natalie Portman managed to make her Jackie movie be all over tinseltown even if very few people had seen it (Arrival grossed almost 3 times more). 2) Character study would have given her lots of Oscars in the 70s, but that's just not what the Academy cares about these days: what wins is that one scene that's easily marketable and that's worth watching the entire movie for. The Arrival or Nocturnal Animals don't have such scene, nor do many of her other performances. She favors stories and characters that have longer arcs with nuance and elaborated storytelling, and her scenes are impressive when seen in sequence, never as standalone. And to be honest, that's why I find her so unique these days. Her strategy is to play the most interesting characters instead of just playing "that one scene" and that's why she's so consistent and is able to go through her filmography with such dignity. The moment she starts begging for it and goes for fighting a bear in the snow, that's when she'll stop being interesting for her fans. PS. Didn't know Jean Marc Vallée had passed. RIP.

She is an amazing and consistent actress who is a successful working actress. I just dont think the Oscars love her enough to give her an Osacr over a more deserving performance. His two main points are she should have won for her firsr nomination and she was seriously ridiculously snubbed for Arrival. The majority of her performances she unfortunately in a category with other powerhouses performances. She never lost to an actress who was less deserving(rachel weisz could be debated). The Oscar race unfortunately is a formula and talented people are left in the dust constantly based on how The Academy "feels about you". And please eff off with the political angles on this subject. Amy may get her day. But I will tell you outside of her fanbase I dont think sadly the Oscars love her enough to give her the prize. And thats is what is truly messed up.

Her snub for Big Eyes was based upon waltz's lackluster performance. She was quite good in Dear Evan Hansen but much of the acceptance or lack thereof counted against her performance. It was in "Junebug" when I first noticed Adams. It was then when I predicted she was going to be a star. I've said that only two other times: with respect to Molly Parker and Amanda Seyfried. While those two actors have had excellent careers, they have yet to quite reach the heights of Amy Adams. Ultimately, whether she wins an Oscar or not, she's already recognized as one of the great actors of her generation, and will be in the good company of such peers as Emily Blunt, Michelle Williams, and Naomi Watts, who've also never won an Academy Award. Ultimately, an Oscar is just a footnote in a long career filled with brilliant performances. And it's those memorable roles - and not her awards - that will be remembered, as they have been for the likes of Barbara Stanwyck, Myrna Loy, Marilyn Monroe, and countless others who've never won.

Unpopular Opinion:- I like Amy Adams a lot and she has been consistently good in all her roles (I have seen most of her filmography and she's never given any bad performance irregardless of the movie's quality), but the thing is I really cannot recall a performance from her that is excellent enough to be deemed as an Oscar-winning performance (not to say all those actual winners are actually deserving). Strangely though, I admired her performance in Hillbilly Elegy a lot (easily one of my favourite performances of hers along with those acclaimed ones). She is easily the best thing about that movie. That year was an amazing year for actresses and I think she should have been nominated. Besides, Close had one or two good scenes in that movie but tons of bad scenes in between hence I think she totally deserved her Razzie nomination. I'd honestly much rather see Adams and Close staying Oscarless than winning based on the overdue factor for performances that are not deserving.

She wouldn't name the roles but at least she's aware enough to know what's connected and what hasn't. And fyi, that was the 2012 Hollywood Reporter round table where she admitted that. So if she can say it, so can I. Thank you for this video, brilliant work as usual. I mean, let's not even forget how much Melissa Leo campaigned for her win that probably had a hand in voters swaying for Leo over Adams. That should have been the year for Adams to triumph although I always find myself switching between Adams and the magnetic Jacki Weaver in Animal Kingdom. I also personally found Adams to be more powerful in The Fighter than Leo who I felt was just chewing the scenery (just my opinion, don't come at me in the replies peeps) and was the sore spot from the performances by the cast. I seriously and genuinely do hope that Adams wins one eventually because she absolutely deserves it!

One of Amy Adams best performances was in “Enchanted.” It was Oscar caliber. This was an extremely difficult role to accomplish and she managed the charm and innocence to perfection of the fairy tale character. She wasn’t nominated for this role. She’s very talented. I can’t think of another actress who could have pulled this off, playing a fairy tale character accidentally plunged into the real world. Nice.

#oscarforamyadams #disenchanted. She was fan-flipping-tastic in Disenchanted! Her performances as both Good and Wicked Giselle are just magnetic to watch and every line she slays like a boss! I never once found a false note from her. I think we should give back for what she's given us!

I got to work with Adams briefly on one of her sets. She is so amazing to watch plunge into a character & just as sweet between takes as you’d imagine. It was a true honor to be present to watch her work.

Great video, love the detail you give👍 I was thinking while watching this, about the past impact of film critics, especially the late great Siskel and Ebert, specifically Roger Ebert,he was a champion of performances by Halle Berry for Monster's Ball,Charleze Theron for Monster,Hillary Swank for Boys Don't Cry all three won Oscars,HB even thanked him after her win, outside after the Ceremony,The director of BDC cited him as helping the movie get noticed. I think if S&E were around they would have championed and praised AA and other actors perfomances, like the one she gave in Arrival and she might have been nominated and even won the Academy Award. I miss those days the industry actually respected them and listened to their take on things, there doesn't seem to be a that type of respected influence nowadays
