    Q.H.S, I'm glad this thing got some attention too, I never knew about this engine up until last year, it's impact was tremendous, being the first new engine Amtrak had purchased. I wonder what would happen if it was rebuilt with HEP? It would probably look like an F40C and would've lived just as long as the F40PH had.

    @@BurlingtonBuck Most likely, hell even Metra used them for a bit until the f40ph completely took over. You watched Amtrakguy365 didn't you?

    how do u get urs to release its brakes all the way mine wont do it plus it pretty much absolutely refuses to get moving

    Did the SDP40Fs ever even operate with Bi-level cars in real life?

    Chartreuse Railfanning I don't know, the SDP40F's were built with steam generators, but the Superliners were built for HEP, however I've seen images of the F40PH pulling Superliner and Hi-level coaches together on the same train.

    I figured that they never did because the SDP40Fs were retired so quickly due to their mechanical issues, so they never had the chance to pull Superliners. I think they still looked good in Phase 1 livery, though.

    Chartreuse Railfanning, I'd wonder what would happen if EMD converted the SDP40F into an F40C (looks similar but has HEP) or even made a variation of the F40C for Amtrak (the F40C was originally made for commuter service).

    Maybe it would be successful, but Amtrak probably couldn't buy it because it can't make a lot of profit. Plus, they would only have one to convert because there is only one surviving ex-SDP40F in existence.

    They had ran Ex ATSF Phase 2 Bi Level cars. Only thing that makes it difficult to realize is due to the short terms of service and reliability.
