Amtrak's Next-Generation of High-Speed Rail

At Amtrak we know the future of the Northeast Corridor depends on the investments we make today, which is why we are excited to announce the upcoming arrival of the next-generation of high-speed rail. The new trainsets will replace the current Acela Express equipment and begin service in 2021.
For this project, we are pleased to be partnering with Alstom, a leading global provider of innovative systems and equipment in the railway sector. Alstom will be building these new trainsets in New York State, with 95% of the trainset’s components being made in America, and parts coming from 350 suppliers in 30 U.S. states.

Also the concept of over engineering a bridge is a completely foreign concept to you isn't it? Why would a railway engineer ever only build a bridge/Tunnel to only handle what was currently available???? That is an incredibly stupid idea cause guess what once something only marginally faster/longer/heavier/taller came out WELP time to start over????? No railroad would pay for something with that short of a life span....railroads are all about longevity and getting long lasting value for their limited investment capital.

Comparisons, however, are possible because, although we have large swathes of sparsely populated land, we also have large cities within largely urbanized regions. It's a shame that the United States doesn't have high speed rail but this development is a great start and in the region that would benefit most from it.

This train is a great advancement for America. However, to really "launch" the high-speed rail industry in America, you must expand beyond the NEC into places such as the Empire and Keystone corridors. Infrastructure is also a problem. The Northeast's infrastructure needs upgrading to allow for higher speeds out of the new Avelia Liberty trainsets. The Acela Express is the only Amtrak train with first class, but it is also the only without coach class. If the Avelia Liberty has coach class, that may increase ridership on the trainsets. Also, the old Acela Express trainsets shouldn't be retired. They could continue their lives on the Northeast Regional, Keystone and Empire lines. I really hope Amtrak lives on and modernizes America's railway. Please, don't give up, and please, make America's railway the best in the world again!

Yeah the Acela is a train I absolutely love, but I've never ridden on. I can't justify the ticket price. I really doubt they're running the Train full all the time, so if they could at least add one coach car, they probably have massively increased ridership. But really more than anything they need to update all the rails so that the trains can actually run at their maximum speed. Acela doesn't even get to max out, so this train will certainly not. we also need to make the right to a little more efficient, I've heard that Boston actually has two or three stops just for the Acela with in one city. The Acela should be running two major stations like pain mainly, for local transport people can hop on the local Subways and such

Considering all of the speed restrictions on the Northeast Corridor, much like the Acela, these trains will hit top speed for all of 30 seconds through Kingston then slow back down to Metro North speeds for the rest. You can upgrade tracks and catenary lines all you want. Good luck straightening out all the massive curves when buildings are in the way.

They are fixing the problem the real problem is not Amtrak it is those DC bureaucrats and the Democrat Party since Clinton's time they have not given Amtrak their money it was Clinton who put Joe Boardman in there Boardman is not a railroad man he is a bureaucrat because of Boardman the Pioneer and Desert Wind got the axe because the Boardman the Northeast Corridor was not improved when the Acela arrived because of Boardman the Empire Builder is over-staffed overburdened can always late because of Boardman the regionals are always late because of Boardman the Zephyr is not reliable and it only serves a few stops and always faces outages when there are avalanches in the Rockies because of Boardman the Southwest Chief has not been rerouted and they did not negotiate with BNSF for trackage rights and they are being jerks because their own but that Robber Baron Warren H. Buffett because of Boardman long-distance trains are not allowed on the east coast in the sunset limited has not been returned to service all because of one stupid accident was caused by a tugboat because of Boardman the coast Starlight had to take up all the road and there is no way for it to turn around at the stations which are blocked by commuter trains and because of Boardman Chicago is a mass Metra is hording the rails and Amtrak's equipment is outdated unreliable and not efficient they are still going off the Democrats budget a budget That was supposed to be cut when President Bush took office but was reinstated when Obama took power only one project got done Englewood Junction is not the choke point in Chicago the choke point is Belt yard outside of Union station Boardman knows this and he didn't fix it because of three things and they are Metro the Federal Railroad Administration including CSX cause of a monopoly in Chicago and project tiger which is operated by Obama Joe Boardman has failed and has been kicked out of office Wick is now the boss he has spent most of his life at Norfolk Southern he's been there he served as an engineer he's been to Chicago he knows what it's like and he intends to fix it and he intends to fix the Northeast Corridor also and the whole system but it won't happen until Congress give them their money and abolishes project tiger and replaces it with a new Transportation bill with gives money to Interstate 11 Amtrak and all of the railroads in the United States project tiger was proposed by democrats key among them that Jack Mormon Harry Reid that liberal witch Nancy Pelosi Bill Nelson of Florida and Chambers in Connecticut others people who were behind that bill were Hoyer and Makolsky of Maryland and from Illinois Durbin and Obama himself. With Trump now the president and Wick now the head of Amtrak we are going to drain the swamp Amtrak is going to get her money and we are going to get all of our railroads back Amtrak is going to use every cent of their money to replace their Fleet and get service back on all the lines.

@@azelsaga6921 I think this model was specifically developed for the US based on the same model as the new TGV trains. The US rail safety standards are considerably more stringent so they have to literally reengineer the entire train. That's why Alstom is building the new Acela trains here and even have a pretty large local engineering department to deal with the design changes. Unfortunately, this also means that the trains are a lot more expensive.

The video is Slick and the proposed Rolling Stock looks quite advanced. UNFORTUNATELY, the TRACKS in the USA will never support true HIGH SPEED because no one wants to pay for the upgrades. As of today the ACELA , which is the current USA High Speed, can only do TRUE Speed on a small stretch of track .in the Northeast. It would be a Win-Win if it actually could be achieved. Living in Germany I know and appreciate true High Speed Train travel. Best of Luck in the project, it is truly long overdue in America.

It's so fun to see all of the European people that comment on American train videos; I think you guys are just big egomaniacs. I'm from Spain myself and I quite understand the point of why there's no high speed trains in America and why people use the plane more than the train. First of all the US is much larger than any European country (excepting Russia) and adapting, renewing old lines or building new ones would cost billions of dollars and take a lot of time to do; even if it was to be done, it would still be a financial suicide taking in consideration that America is less densely populated than most European countries, and also cities are much further apart from each other than any place in Europe. Then we have to consider that America has a lot of different landscapes, ranging from floodplains to desserts, and it would take lots of money to maintain both the rails and the trains themselves. Also disasters like tornadoes, earthquakes, landslides, hurricanes and floods happen too so rail infrastructure would have to be repaired. And why do Americans use the plane more than the rail? Because of time; even if the train was as fast as any European high speed trains, it would still take ages to get from LA to NY or from Dallas to Chicago, because for the sake of economical sustainability it would have to stop in every mid-size town to make it profitable, while planes can go directly to their destinations without doing many or no stops in its way.

...China has a larger land mass than the Continental US. it also has just as challenging Geography as we do. Yet they are embarking on a programme to build a national network of high speed passenger and even freight rail lines, not just a few "select" corridors. To tell the truth I'd rather take say 20 - 24 hours from Seattle to Chicago on a high speed train than be wedged into that torture device known as an airline coach seat and have someone effectively sitting in my lap for several hours, be treated like crap by the cabin crew, and deal with the indignity of TSA screening as well as worrying if items from my luggage will be pilfered and have to deal with getting into the city when the train travels direct from city centre to city centre. It's not because we don't have the technological resources to do it, it's that we don't have political wherewithal to let it happen.
