What a lovely room! I'm from Europe, and this is making me realise that once I get the chance to travel to the US, seeing the country by train is actually viable, which is great news since I don't like to drive!

I traveled on the Zephyr in March from Nebraska to Emeryville in a roomette, my first trip on a train. Really enjoyed it. I would like to try a bedroom next time for the extra room, especially at night. Thank you for a nice video.

Silly question, but do they weigh your luggage like a plane? And you have to pay more for more luggage?

They didn’t weigh mine last time I traveled and it was very heavy I needed help placing it on the train for me.

They don’t. Amtrak is a lot more lax on things which makes train travel all that much better.

If you are going to check your bag I have seen them weighed. 50lb limit. Done to protect the backs of the luggage handler!

The train isn't going to fail to become air-born if it's overweight, so the only reason they have a luggage weight limit is to protect the backs of their baggage handlers.

Would a senior traveling alone be okay in this bedroom?

Absolutely!! I have done amtrak cross country 7 times as a senior citizen (56- 75 yrs)using both bedroom and smaller roomette. If you have a companion, are they able to climb up into the bunk? I have seen couples book 2 smaller roomette,across from each other,so each has a lower. It is a great way for seniors to travel.Red caps are available at most stations, take advantage. Also most stations have either wheelchair or golf carts available to get you to your train.
