The Kats at AMT spared no expense in bringing this beauty back into more glory than every. They have retooled the missing hood for the advanced custom version and more importantly have tooled up new parts “missing” from the kit since its inception including the firewall, radiator, battery and master cylinder. According to our source at AMT, "we opened up some closed parts gates too, to get a few other small bits back in there." Sweet, sweet, sweet! This great AMT Advanced Customizing kit of a classic subject is now for the first time ever, a true and complete jewel.

The Impala is Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and is generally among the better selling American made automobiles in the United States.[4][5]For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-size model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994-96, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8-powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.
The 1963 Impala featured rectilinear styling with an engine-turned aluminum rear taillight panel surrounded by a chrome border on SS models. Engine choice was similar to 1962, with the small-block 283-and-327-cubic-inch (4.6 and 5.4 L) V8s most popular. The Sport Sedan featured a new, creased roof line. A new "coved" instrument panel with simple indicator lights for hot and cold engine conditions. An optional factory tachometer was built into the dashboard, just above the steering wheel; it was rarely ordered. Impala wagons got triple-unit taillights for the first time.A special 427-cubic-inch (7.0 L) version of the 409 engine was used in the 1963 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe, ordered under Chevrolet Regular Production Option (RPO) Z11. This was a special package created for drag racers, as well as NASCAR, and it consisted of a 427 cubic inch engine with aluminum body parts, and a cowl-induction air intake system. The aluminum body parts were fabricated in Flint, Michigan at the facility now known as GM Flint Metal Center. Unlike the later, second-generation 427, it was based on the W-series 409 engine, but with a longer 3.65 in (93 mm) stroke. A high-rise, two-piece aluminum intake manifold and dual Carter AFB carburetors fed a 13.5:1 compression ratio to produce an under-rated[clarification needed] 430 hp (320 kW) and 575 lb·ft (780 N·m) of torque. 50 RPO Z11 cars were produced at the Flint GM plant.

Nice Decal sheet. Like the way you make up a little story on the model that gives reason for the way you build and paint it

When you build these nostalgic annual 60's kits it brings a tear to my eyes. I built most of those AMT kits when I was a kid and I loved the Chevy 409 and I played the Beach Boys song "SHE'S REAL FINE MY 409" until my mom told me that's enough! I mowed lawns and gathered pop bottles all summer long and bought models to build. I had a whole fleet of 63 and 64 Chevy 409's in all the colors. I had to take summer school one year so I took typing, glad I did. I wrotr a story about a guy named Chevy and his 409's. Teacher was impressed by my typing but didn't understand the story line. Sprayed the rollback frame with your favorite Rustoleum 2X flat black, I can see why you like it, it's smooth and covers great. Fantastic build by the way, I'm not sure I remember all those accessories that is with the kit now. Trophy, TV, record player, etc were to cool back then. I remember a 3 in 1 kit.

I may have to get this kit. My late older brother had one of these back in 1970. It was white, with a black interior and bucket seats. He dropped a 283, bored out to a 427 in it. He also fitted an Oldsmobile tranny in it. He had to split the Olds & Chevy driveshafts, then have them welded together and balanced. At 425 hp, that car screamed! He had a six-inch steering wheel in it, a Hearst shifter, and a Holley 4-barrel. I learned to drive a stick on it, when I was 15. My brother was a talented guy, as far as mechanics and bodywork went. I miss him, and I miss that car! --Cindi (Granny Glue-Sniffer)

Started modeling when I was 8 years old. Missed a year of school due to illness and my Dad thought it would be a good hobby to occupy my time. Almost 60 years later and I'm still at it. I'm so glad I found your channel - love your philosophy and approach to modelling...totally agree. Add your building skills, calming voice and the detail you provide in the presentations to the mix, well that's a win-win-win. Thanks you so much! PS - Gonna add this '63 Chevy to my build list. Cheers...

Great memories car. I was 11 when my dad bought a new 1963 Impala. Silver blue non ss, 283. In the showroom I kept telling my dad to buy the SS model. He said I was crazy, "Do you know how much gas in?" Lol....yes under 20 cents a gallon thinking back! Final cost with seatbelts and floor mats thrown in was $3,000 out the door. I'll buy and build this one!

I got the Revell 1:25 scale 1963 impala kit which has only two versions, stock and low rider, but looks like a better kit in my opinion, just from what I saw in the AMT box. Don't stop the nice job.

Your color scheme came out good. I've been looking for the colors at ACE and HOME DEPOT. They have some primers but none of the rest. AMT is doing a lot of good things with their kits. I think they stretched it a little with building the drag version though. Interior pieces, side pipes and decals do not make a drag version. I still bought it though. I used to have one, and I'm going to build the kit like I wanted the real one to turn out. Keep up the work.

I just got into car model building after a 35 year hiatis. I'm not doing so good. I am not having good results with spray cans and I dont know what I could do any different. I wash my plastic thoroughly, I use Tamiya gray primer, and testors, rustoleum spray cans. I have problems with gloss paints running up to the trim and puddling ?I try and use short thin coats in the beginning but I still have problems. I dont have this with airbrushing. I'd like to save time by using cans but the results are poor. Im not looking to do a show quality job, just a decent job. Great utube channel

Usually runny paints are being out on too think, but it could be a lack of shaking, too hot, too cold, etc. Impossible to diagnose on the internet. Thanks and enjoy your hobby! facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop

Make sure you're not spraying paint in hot and humid conditions. Moisture in the air will play havoc with paint jobs. Otherwise, spray several light coats - beginning with a fog or misting coat - instead of just one or two heavy coats. Allow at least 20-30 minutes drying time between coats. Also, don't hold the can too close to the car body when you're spraying back-and-forth. If you don't get any dust or dirt particles trapped in a paint coat, allow the final coat to completely dry for 48-hours, then lightly wet sand or polish to a mirror finish. At least, that's the process I use to obtain good results.

Stock cast iron manifolds, no headers? You do a great job with your models, they're always so nice and neat. I guess you just have to work with what you get. My first car was a '63 Impala, age 18, a senior in high school. It had a 327 cubic inch engine, 4-barrel carb, Hurst 4 speed, dual exhaust, with headers, Thrush mufflers, 12 bolt posi rear. Gabriel highjacker shocks in the rear. It was a two-door hardtop, no post. It was a true SS, in Honduras maroon, I put grey, American Racing, torque thrust rims on it,15 x 7 in the front, 15 ×8 in the rear, with a 60 series tire in the back.

@@hpiguy Thank you for responding! You definitely say you used "the Molotow" on the headlamps to make it look like it isn't chrome plastic & give it more of a glass look. I'm new to the pens & was curious as to what you might have used to obtain the effect. **Edit** at about 16:40, you do say you would use Molotow chrome - I missed that the first time through. Sorry to bother you! Thanks for your videos - really are a teaching tool to me!

Nicely done Impala. Not showroom stock with all the fancy details, but a mild custom will do. Like the owner wants to drive the car, not park it and show it off like a trailer queen. I've just never really fancied the older cars of the early to mid 60s. I like all the chrome trim, but it can be a pain trying to detail all that chrome. Molotow chrome isn't perfectly chrome, but it's the cheapest thing to getting the closest chrome finish on trim. BMF is the ultimate in chrome detailing. I just don't have the patience to use BMF. Going through so many blades just to cut out strips is aggravating.
