Amsterdamhoek, Port Elizabeth
On the banks of the Swartkops River, near its mouth, is Amsterdamhoek. This may be a suburb in Port Elizabeth, but it exudes all of the appeal of a fishing village in its own right. The homes here are, generally, rustic and fairly large (although many have been revamped or even rebuilt since the 1970’s), most having beautiful views of the river. From many places, the waters of the Indian Ocean are also visible, creating magnificent backdrops.
Amsterdamhoek remains popular amongst fishermen, who love to bask on the river’s banks, enjoying the warm South African sunshine and the vistas of the Eastern Cape. Along with them, there are often families playing in the warm river’s waters, while the clear coastal air is bracing.

The suburb creates a feeling of being far from the city, even remote. Really, though, Amsterdamhoek is less than 10 kilometres from the heart of the city, and within a short drive from the many beaches that Port Elizabeth has to offer, as well as the shopping malls, historical attractions and natural areas.

Hello Brother I am moving to SA from the U.S. I am interested in a property in Amsterdamhoek. The home is on the water side and the back yard is on the water. Iam concerned about the flooding. Do you know anything about flood damage to the houses there?? Any info would be greatly appreciated

Hi brother, it is good to hear from you and even more exciting to hear that you are keen in investing here in Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan.... All homes or rather majority of homes in Amsterdamhoek, 98% are on the Swartkorps River Bank meaning that most have the river right in front of them and have access to the the river, However I have been living in PE now known as Gqeberha for 14 years and there hasn't been an incident of flooding in that area, I also had an interview in one of my videos with a senior community member in Amsterdamhoek and she had this to say about the neighborhood 🫴 kzread.info/dash/bejne/qHV8y8qleL2_hbQ.htmlsi=83JiVXUaMF-AFdmO
