Amrep MSL Garbage Truck: Crushing Recycling

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I'm going off possibly incorrect memory but I think I remember being told this group of 3 straight frame Amrep MSLs on Freightliner M2s started with Oregon Recycling Systems (ORS), a hauler owned cooperative formed by a group of smaller companies as a way to more efficiently meet Portland's recycling requirements. ORS trucks and drivers would provide curbside recycling collections on the constituent haulers' routes while the haulers continued to collect garbage and yard debris. They dumped at ORS' own MRF off NE Sandy by the Costco. Heiberg had a 320 Top Select in the boneyard which apparently once belonged to ORS and was used before the Amreps. Gradually the individual haulers took over their own curbside recycling collections and these Amreps were sold (I believe while still fairly new) to Cloudburst Recycling, the company where I commenced my garbage man journey as a helper in fall of 2015. Cloudburst was then bought by Heiberg Garbage and Recycling in February of 2016, this video taking place around 2 years post merger. Both purchases from new to ORS and secondhand to Cloudburst were undoubtedly based on low price. Judging by the hissing when the brake is applied rather than released, the truck here in this video was the 1 of the 3 examples without a work brake, just the yellow parking brake knob. Yanking the thing while still rolling works well enough, probably gives the slack adjusters a hell of a workout though. These were powered by early '08 emissions Mercedes Benz motors which gave countless issues with the exhaust regeneration. As sacrilegious as it may be I'll say it, the Amrep MSL body is a soggy, steaming box of shit. Absolutely atrocious. Amrep should've been ashamed to put their name on these coat hanger abortions. The tiny, shallow hopper is just barely swept clear by the packer, no body penetration to speak of. The tipper didn't lift high enough to meaningfully fill the hopper, hence the 'hand bombing' technique employed here. Even with the hopper 5 feet in the air, the least painful way to finish a route. The only positive comment I can force myself to make is the glass box was massive, I don't think it was dumped every day in normal circumstances, and was the only truck you didn't worry about running out of space in around the holidays. Portlanders are alcoholics.
I really didn't give a fuck anymore at this point, couldn't wait to get out of Portland. Jimmy stuck me in these Amreps after I gave my notice since he didn't need to keep me happy anymore, the frustration might come across around the 13:00 minute mark lmao. Funny how its always the retired or unemployed who are most inconvenienced by the working man. Jizzbag later called the office and said "I seemed upset." This job really lays bare people's true character, 10% do all the real work and drag around the other 90% as dead weight. Anywayyyyy...
I came back to this video after a Saturday of binging hopper videos here on KZread when I remembered I had this lil nugget in the unlisted files. I don't much care for it, but that may be related to my negative memories of the truck, let me know what you think. If there's enough interest I've got some Lodal and Labrie hopper videos I can make public, plus a backlog of unedited footage on a hard drive somewhere. For a curb side view of these trucks driven by sane people, young William ‪@willthetrashman‬ and some others have filmed these turds, check them out.

Was nice to see someone put the time into an actual description, something that is few and far between these days. Regardless of how poorly these performed, it was cool to watch the packer attempt to eat recycle. Kind of a throw back to the old waste connections videos from back in the day. Definitely enjoyed watching this one. Absolutely would enjoy seeing more from you in the future. Crazy to think it’s already been close to half a decade since you were up in these regions

Great job and awesome description. I must say people out there seem to actually care about recycling correctly. People out here in CT on my routes have some of the most contaminated recycling.
