Die Metalband aus Finnland hat schon einige Besetzungswechsel hinter sich, das ist aber bei so einer langen Karriere kein Wunder. Auch soundmäßig gab es bei Amorphis niemals Stillstand.
Amorphis fangen 1990 als Death Metal Band mit Keyboards an, sprengen mit ihren Alben aber schon bald die Grenzen des Genres. Mit ihrem zweiten Album "Tales From The Thousand Lakes", das für Death Metal ungewöhnlich viele Gesangs- und Keyboard-Melodien enthält, schaffen sie 1994 den Durchbruch. "Melodic Death Doom" nennt die Metal-Musikkritik den Sound der Band. Textlich beschäftigt sich das Album mit dem Kalevala, einem finnischen Epos. Musikalisch kommen erstmals Elemente aus Psychedelic Rock dazu, samt Hammond-Orgel, was in der Metal-Welt für Aufsehen sorgt. Auch Progressive Rock Metal findet seinen Weg in den Klang von Amorphis.
Mitte der Neunziger halten traditionelle finnische Instrumente Einzug in den Amorphis-Sound. Ende der Neunziger verabschieden sich Amorphis mit "Tuonela" endgültig vom Death Metal. Auch klassischer Rock ist hie und da zu hören. Bald darauf unterzeichnen Amorphis einen Majordeal bei Virgin und feiern 2010 ihr 20-jähriges Bestehen mit einer Live-DVD und einem Best Of-Album. Auch mit ihren folgenden Alben begeistern Amorphis Musikkritiker und Fans. In Finnland erreicht die Band seit Jahren mit nahezu jedem Album die Top 10 der Charts.

Schon 5 mal live gesehen. Jedes Mal eine Wucht. Selten einen Sänger erlebt der Live so seine Stimme variieren kann und dabei in jeder Lage super klingt. Geniale Songs, super Show, musikalisch ohne Ende Metal Hits. Was will das Metal Herz mehr? Letztes Jahr zusammen mit Sólstafir ein Konzert das definitiv in meinen Top Ten gehört. Seit ca 1990 war ich auf unzähligen Konzerten, aber Amorphis blieb im Kopf hängen. Fast jeder in der Band ist noch in anderen Bands bzw Solo aktiv. Was für ein riesen Pool an musikalischer Inspiration alle Mitglieder haben ist unglaublich

Der Sound ist hier einfach besser als auf ihren offiziellen Live-Alben. Ich mag die Band wirklich extrem gerne, aber die letzten Live-Alben gehen gar nicht 😅
