Lyrics:
Amongst Stars
Close your eyes now
And give in to the night
Soar above the stars
Forget what's behind
Don't stare up at the setting sun
Or the light of dawn
Follow the thread of gold
Drift on its tide
It's a path of stars
Ride on the golden stream
And break the waves
In a gilded trail of stars
Rise, rise, rise
Above the golden way of stars
Rise, rise, rise
Beyond the trail of stars
The light will lure you
To lands forged by demise
To the shores of death
The blooming meadows
Seduce and intoxicate
With a deceiving scent
Follow the thread of gold
Drift on its tide
It's a path of stars
Ride on the golden stream
And break the waves
In a trail of stars
I've seen the lights up in the sky
Like beacons from another shore
So don't look back, don't look ahead
Just close your eyes, give in to the night
Close your eyes now
Give in to the night
Soar above the stars
The blooming meadows
Seduce and intoxicate
With a deceiving scent
Follow the thread of gold
Drift on its tide
It's a path of stars
Ride on the golden stream
And break the waves
In a gilded trail of stars
Rise, rise, rise
Above the golden way of stars
Rise, rise, rise
Beyond the gilded trail of stars

When she sang 'Stars' and he growled 'RISE' in unison, it was so spectacular to hear. They are so good at matching their vocals and picking the right parts of the song to entwine their parts together, just sad that she hasn't done any more songs with them. So good.

The reason is that Finland has a really long tradition of "poem singing" in which poems were written in a certain way to fit a melody that was played on the Finnish national instrument, Kantele. The Kantele instrument was traditionally tuned so that it was in between a major and a minor scale, making everything sound a bit melancholic. After new instruments and musical styles came around, Finns stuck to making music in a similar melancholic tone. That tone is an exceptionally good fit with rock and metal music which caused most people to fall in love with heavier music, which is also why in Finland metal music can be considered popular music, or even "high-brow" music, with many people comparing metal to classical music.

I have loved Amorphis since I first heard Tales from the Thousand Lakes. That was the album that got me in to metal when I was about 12 or 13. That album remained my favourite until Eclipse was released. Hearing Eclipse for the first time blew my mind and I felt the same hearing that as I did when I first heard Tales, a feeling that I had not had since the a teenager. Now having finally purchased 'Queen' and listened to it on repeat, I have that same feeling again.. This has quickly become my favourite Amorphis album and is definitely the best album of the year.

It boggles the mind how five people can work together as a metal band, possibly the most hectic life one can live, for a quarter of a century and still manage to consistently produce amazing art that resounds with millions, including those like you that have been with them since the beginning. Amorphis truly is the finest hidden gem of metal.

The whole African population seems to be around 1.2 billion. There's no way you are the only one! Humanity's love of music is universal, even if every individual has their own tastes. It might seem easier to listen to what everyone else around you is listening to, but fortunately today with the Internet, everyone can also check out new things from all over the world.
