Just gonna point this out, that final scene was VERY close to how a familiar scene played out in 28 weeks later, a child was saved granted in this instance an off-screen threat but that threat showed itself in the form of a massive horde where only the husband barely got away with their life all the while the child and the wife got overwhelmed by the horde.

A lot of possibilities on that. The first thing I'm thinking is that the ship actually started from Mira HQ, so Lime maybe asks the people there to take care of the kid until the crew returns to Mira (assuming that's really Lime's kid). Though I'm now curious on the actual timeline of the story.
