My grandpa had a 16 inch dinner bell that belonged to his granddad, when my grandpa passed away someone had the gall to steal it. One day I will have one and it will be passed down through the generations. Thank you for showing this it brought back so many memories.

I grew up 5 miles down the road from an Amish store. Mom would always go there to get baking supplies, and everything we bought from them worked great. There's an Amish saw mill further down the road from there; and they were great to work with. They wouldn't haggle much, but you could usually find great prices on hardwoods.

I'm a 71 year old widow originally from Akron, Ohio. Back in 1998, my brother was diagnosed with cancer. He lived in Enterprise, Alabama. He managed to drive to my house in Roanoke, VA. We then proceeded to go to Akron, our only other sibling, our oldest sister, still lived there. We stayed at her house and she took us to the Amish country. We had one of best days of our lives. We actually got along 😮 We went shopping and right at the same store you're filming from, my brother bought me a marble rolling pen. I still use it to this day. We then went to a large restaurant that sat up high on a hill. The food was the best in all the land 😋 We continued to shop at just about every store. There were another one that had a deli with every kind of cheese you could imagine, and the smells of the cheese and meats were amazing! They also had a huge ice cream area. Our sister told us to wait, when she returned she had an ice cream cone for both of us, chocolate, of course 😋 However, it was the largest ice cream cone I'd ever seen in my life 😮 It had to be close to a half a gallon. She tells us that those are the mediums. It took everything we had to eat them all. Ohhhh my goodness, I've never tasted ice cream, so wonderful since! So, yes indeed, going to the Amish country in Ohio is well worth the trip. Definitely check out their fabric shops, top notch fabrics!! Both my brother and sister have gone home to Jesus but I hope to get back to the Amish country soon with my niece. Y'all stay safe, healthy, and blessed 👑🙏💞✝️🐾🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯

I love that store as well. I saved for a year before I went up there and spent way to much on cooking, canning and gardening tools.

@@thomass789 we are retired,so money is pretty tight part of the year, it was $400. I know, not much, but it was what was leftover after each month in the grocery budget.

😍 Loved hearing that bell. My grandma and two of my aunts had and used them with us kids. We would come scurrying from all corners of the property when we heard that! Super nostalgic.

"If people hear that and don't know what it is, they don't deserve to eat". So true! 😂 I'm from New England, and lived by the beach. My mom called us back to the house using a bell like that, smaller of course. That's when we would know it was dinner time. Now, I'm a country girl, and love cooking over an open fire. I didn't realize I needed that bell until now. Thanks for bringing back memories.

The bell brought back memories in Michigan when I was 10, the neighbors would ring their bell, and all the kids knew it was dinner and time to go home!

On our first and only trip to Indiana we went to that store. Oh my goodness I wanted one of everything. BTW when I was a little girl, we had a dinner bell like that at our home in Mill Creek Indiana. I'd go back in a hot minute if I could ❤

The corrugated rolling pin is a lefse rolling pin. Lefse is a very thin Norwegian flatbread. Lefse is like a flour tortilla, but made with riced potatoes instead of flour. Corrugated rolling pins allow dough to be rolled very thin with less sticking. It is also used for other doughs that are rolled very thin, like crackers.

I've been in so many Amish country stores all over the country. I kind of favor the ones near me in SE Iowa and NE Missouri. I know both of the family that operate the stores. The truth is that the community actually own the stores if their authentic. I get my meat butchered at one and the other is a one block size general store and a lumber yard across the street. I get my bulk buys and get so many of my special gifts for all occasions. The butcher shop does a fantastic job on my hogs and beef. The carcass yield per pound is so much higher and the even return the bones and other parts on top of some of the best scrapple , sous , smoked bacon and old style cured hams with no added water. I've known the families so long that they almost treat me like I was family. Being from a German Mennonite family helps. That a whole another story.

Visited the place and discovered that they had a floor model for an out of stock Petromax Fire Kettle. They repaired it before selling it to me. Saved shipping and used my 10% discount too. Paper, twigs, and a pine cone can boil your water fast in Fire Kettle and leaves only ash for a complete burn! You feel happy using it!
