    Thankyou!!! I can't help thinking on all these old games that if the people who wrote the music had got into dance music which was going electronic at the time, they'd all have become millionaires! This is like happy house music. Shadow of the beast is like dark trance/drumandbass. Monkey island is like some early dubstep(esp rottan by skream). Must've influenced modern producers when they were kids:)

    I miss these kind of games.. Even indie games these days don't seem to get close to the whacky concepts of the 80s.. otoh, I guess one of the reasons is that every game back then was a big surprise (remember copying 100s of games from someone who also had a computer in one afternoon, and check 'em out later? :D ). And a lot of them were crap.. these days, you can find all the info you want on the net, that takes away the surprise of whatever gem you may find on your own.. :)

    To answer your question Hookjaw's treasure is cursed and if you attempt to just take it recklessly, as soon as you reach to top of hookjaw's grave hookjaw will strike you with lightning killing you instantly, this is where the bible comes in, if you have the bible in your inventory when you take the treasure you'll be protected from the curse and lightning will not come down and strike you.

    You missed the joke. You need Water to hydrate something. You if want to use a boat - chances are... there'll be water there! We needed the boat to only work where there was water. So from a gameplay prospective it worked and we thought it funny. Even if some people missed the joke.

Now the Amiga was by far the better version however the Amstrad had one hell of an annoying flaw in the game which was the inventory on the Amstrad every time you collected a coin your inventory moved up. Pretty annoying when you were under water. Had to make sure the Snokel was the bottom of my inventory every time hahaha. Was still an awesome game tho :D

    I had this on the Big 6 CD32 compilation. Possibly my least favourite, largely because you only have one life- touch a flame, baddie or trap and that's it- game over. Good music melody, but instruments sound awful. Can forgive that though, since in 1989 it's one of the oldest.

    I just don't understand this game. The graphics and music are top notch, but the game itself is below mediocre: no scrolling, awful level design. With proper developers it could have been a true Amiga-classic.

  • @MixelsLab

    @MixelsLab

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hermann Brewitzch it’s a port from much less powerful hardware.. and a budget title at that. I wouldn’t say it has awful level design, just a different type of gameplay. Screen switching was common back then. As a port it’s really good, and when you think that Dizzy games were closer to Manic Miner’s wheelhouse than whatever scrolling thing you’re thinking of it makes more sense.
