Amiga Longplay Myth - History In The Making

A pretty hard and obscure game, but not very long. The picture and music at the end is the Game Over screen. Usually it isnt there, but i added it because it looks great and to have a cooler ending. -

This game was so brutal for its time. In an age when Mario was still jumping for mushrooms this guy was lopping off heads and smashing shields into skulls. He was the 'Kratos' of his time. Thanks for uploading 5 stars

People are always going to prefer the version they played back in the day, Personally this was one of my favourite Amiga games. The use of sound and the fantastic graphics really show off how ahead of its time the Amiga was. Great atmosphere too.

The Spectrum version of Myth was one of the very best Spectrum games ever made and I still love it. I did own an Amiga but I'd never seen this version until today. I wasn't expecting it to be much good, but I'm really impressed! It's a very different game, but it looks fantastic, reminding me of Knightmare in places. I love the woman at 9:10. All that's missing is music!

I adored Myth. I used to have it on my Speccy 128k (in fact, I think I still do!) A grab-bag of mythical moments and some cool animations, I finished it several times and always enjoyed it.

Two things bother me. First thing is strictly about this game - on C64, our protagonist looks like a teenager torn out of modern world into the world of myths. Here, our hero is more of a proper warrior. Strange thing ;) Second thought is more general. It seems sort of a rule, that characters in C64 ports seem to maintain proper bodily proportions - normal head, normal body. Characters in Amiga ports are designed more cartoony with funny proportions and big heads :D That's both a case in The Last Ninja, here, and other games.

Amazing game, my mam never let me play it as a kid due to its graphic nature, but my brother made me a copy on the sly so I played it more than ever. I only beat the game twice as a kid but recently got the hang of it after I bought the game on ebay. Intro music is samples from the beginning of Stanley Kubricks 2001 space odyssey with tweaks and beats so I've heard. amazing game, so nostalgic.

Ankalagan rocks my world! I loved this game as a kid in the early '90s when I got my first Amiga. The game was fairly challenging, but too short! I love the speech: "Come closer ... STOP!" My floppy had an error that wouldn't let me see the ending every time. What happened to "Blue Steel" anyway?

Actually it looks like Myth was released for the ZX Spectrum and C64 (1989) before it became "Conan" on the NES (1991), then it received an Amiga/ST/DOS release in 1992. :) The naming of Myth "Conan" in the US was probably an attempt to make it sell more copies or a lazy attempt at filling a license. ;)

Hard to say if this better or worse than the epic C64 version. Anyone else recognise a sound sample from Highlander? It's when Facile is about to attack McLeod, used as an "ouch" sound effect for the main character (uuah). After all these years I just realised that you can chop the plants in the Nordic level. Duh!

indeed. they really used the technology they had to the very best of it's potential! to come out with someting like this with a 16 bit machine is incredible! If in proportion, the same amount of work went into making the games of today, fully exploiting the machine's potential, the stuff we could have nowadays would destroy in standard any of the popular games of our current time...

I guess, but it's only a conjecture, that they wanted to do something similar to "Gods" by Bitmap Brothers so they can compete with its success... so they changed the main character, that was inspired to the guy of Back to the Future that was released in 1985 (when the C64 version of this game is from 1989).

@Doommaster1994 Then to understand my last comment, please listen to (watch a longplay, more like :)) the C64 versions of the scores I mentioned -- they usually feature _way_ better music. This is definitely so with the Last Ninja(s) and SotB. What's really strange for me, is that the situation is almost the same for the Amiga. It was also a Commodore PC, hence the same audience, and still the music was changed to something that was usually worse. Even if the Amiga had much better capabilities.

They are among the best, to be sure, but so are others like Ben Daglish (Last Ninja), Matt Gray (Last Ninja 2), Martin Galway (Times of Lore and other stuff from Origin), David Whittaker (Shadow of the Beast), etc. Also, I guess you meant C64 musician, because otherwise leaving Mitsuda Yasunori & co. out of the equation is just rude. :)
