Liberation was THE game of the future. Not understanding english back then made it impossible for me to progress in that game. My favorite game on that list is : Deep Core. I still play it in emulation once in a while.

I have only ever seen one of these machines in a retro store once. I was around when they were new but I live in the US and they didn't sell here. The only thing I can say was...what was Amiga thinking? You have to look at this console and compare it to other 5th generation hardware. Even against the 32X it left a lot to be desired. Most of its games were very "16-bit" looking/playing and what's with so many titles lacking music? This was a CD based console that had quite a few games without music....strange. Addendum- Whoa this got a Battletoads port?! Without music? Like I said strange.

You bring up some interesting points! Amiga CD32 had its quirks and limitations, especially when compared to other 5th generation consoles 🙈

@@retroreplaysvault Thanks for the reply! I actually don't know what the Amiga 32 could actually do and I definitely am not blaming the console for its content. Personally, I think Amiga was not prepared for how differently the console market was. I believe they got behind the 8-ball and we're doing their best to keep up with the brutal demands the console side of the business requires. They really should have stayed with the microcomputer and continued doing things the Amiga way. They were true masters of the microcomputer. They were so good that for 5 years straight they punched everyone in the mouth. Think about it... The Amiga spent a good 5 years smacking everyone around with better software, support, games, and business applications for a fraction of the cost. The Nes, Master System, Commodore 64/128, 286, and the mighty 386 machines had nothing on the Amiga (or ST). They went to war with the biggest PC companies in the world and held the line for a fraction of a fraction of the cost. Had they simply built a custom system like they had with the Amiga 500 that included a solid Risc based 32-bit processor and say a 4MB GPU they would likely still be throwing down but they (in my humble opinion) lost their way. Addendum- Amiga reminds me of Sega in a lot of ways. They became so fixated on what the other guy was doing and forgot to be the company that we loved so very much. Had they just hung on for 3 more years they would have had the market almost entirely to themselves and been the only one's with the ability to stand against the clone computer invasion of 1993-1994. You don't price war with Amiga, they price war with you. :)

The console was Commodore's "Hail Mary" attempt to save itself. It was made when the company was in its worst state, and the failure of the machine was the beginning of the end. It was the last in a long line of poor executive-level decisions.

CD32 was capable of more than it's games showed. 95% of games were simply disk versions slapped on a CD leaving 95% of CD empty. And like you mentioned, many times they didn't even bothered to add CD-Audio.

@@davidm4677 Hah I never noticed that. Well alright consider when everything was released. 1000 in 1985 and 500 in 1987. The CD 32 was released in Sep 1993. By this time the Sega Megadrive/Genesis had been out since 1989. So it had been out for four years at this point. And this was a big deal because I remember 1993. I finally gave in and got a used Genesis for something like $30 at a pawn shop (or was it Game stop?). It was because of Mortal Kombat was just released and I wanted the Genesis version with the blood to play with friends. And also by this point there were TONS of cheap Genesis games available. I mention this because Genesis was also a 68K console, and there tons of Amiga tittles available on the Genesis. It's always been my contention that the Genesis is really what did in the Amiga platform

@telesniper2 CD32 was more powerful than Genesis. The ami of Amiga was to bring Amiga 500 and 1200 games on to CD format it wasn’t about competing with other consoles CD32 it’s great console but unfortunately it lost interest because of PS ONE and Saturn and we didn’t see more Amiga games being ported as console was discontinued if only people would give it more support and attention it would have the best 2D collection of all time unfortunately most people back then could own one console so something did has to go even Saturn didn’t survive with newer tech.I hope there are some bootleg games for it as I’m gone try to buy CD32.

A good example on how to waste 32 bit and CD technologies back in the days. Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo pulled better games hmm was it an issue with the dev kit, developers or lack of creativity?

Lazy ports of the existing Amiga versions mostly, maybe with additional animated/FMV intros and/or additional music if you were lucky, for a higher price than the disk version even with little to nothing added (which also went against the prevailing rhetoric that CD games would be cheaper because they would not be as easy nor as cheap to pirate). There were very, very few CD32-specific games. Another thing that didn't help Commodore was the arrival of _Doom_ on the PCs in 1993. Whilst the Amiga was good at sprite-based games it was not so good at texture-mapped 3D such as that seen in _Doom_ (at least, not without accelerators and/or graphics cards - which most Amiga owners were unwilling to buy back then). That one game made the PC the go-to games machine; no longer was it just considered the "uncool" grey box that was geared towards office work. The Amiga did receive what became known as _Doom_ clones in its wake (some of which - _Gloom_ and _Alien Breed 3D,_ for example - turned out to be quite enjoyable to play) and did eventually get a genuine port of _Doom_ in 1999 (although you needed a fairly porky Amiga to be able to cope with it), but sadly by that point it was a classic case of "too little, too late".

Hard to compare, SNES and Genesis were dedicated games machines. CD32 was just an Amiga computer really, it needed new chips if it was to compete. If Commodore had a plan the Amiga could have competed even with playstation
