The best thing about Chris Harris is he gets to drive the cars we all want to drive. He reviews them with the depth we all would. this car is not from this world! this is what i call perfection!

I still go back to this video, you know he is real car guy and people at top of this event know it too by letting him drift one of the most unique and fascinating cars. He is our guy that doesn't care about stats and reading the brochures instead he goes to the roots of driving having fun behind the wheel!

Its nice to see Chris not going on about spec after spec etc, but just enjoying himself. There are many facets to motor journalism, but what Chris seems to bring across through all of it is the enjoyment of driving... and that's why its so good to watch his videos. I enjoy Chris's videos for the vicarious pleasure it brings.

Love it! I have an SL600 from those years and the first thing I need to do is cut the muffler out. Wish I had an AMG-style exhaust to throw on it because it's way too quiet for me.

I remember when I was a kid in the late 80s early 90s, staying at my grandma house and my next door neighbor's friends across the street had three black W124 Mercedes-Benz AMG models. One was the Hammer AMG coupe, a sedan, and the estate wagon version. I freaked out when I always see those cars. I had an awesome childhood oh, those were the days.

I am BMW fan,my first car was a BMW E30 325,now I drive E39 528,but huge respect for W124. There are 3 or 4 cars from Mercedes line who i will love to own,and they are SL 500 from 90's,W124,W126 SEC coupe,G class from 200,E190 2.5 liter from 90's :)

If I had just a bit more disposable income to be able to buy my ideal car, I'd go directly to AMG and have them build me an SLS gullwing car, with all the Black Series bits: The extra power, the lighter back-bone, the lighter titanium exhaust, suspension, etc. but without any of the aero bits, so the car retains the subtle gorgeous lines of a standard SLS AMG, which is almost a perfect modern-day interpretation of the Merc 300SL gullwing cars of the 1950s. So basically all the go-faster bits, but without the Black Series aero that makes the car a bit too much boy-racer-ish. Especially that mini GT3 fixed wing on the back. So again, the majority of the performance Black Series bits (i.e. sans the aero bits, but with all the other upgrades) and the clean shape of a standard SLS AMG. And definitely a silver exterior, with a red interior. So when my finances finally allow it, that is the exact car I'm going to order. Get ready for my build sheet AMG!

mornadu Yeah, but I can find a nice pre-owned one in the colors I want, low miles, and they said they can do the treatment on an existing SLS, so I'm good there if I decide that's the treat I want to get. Still up in the air about it, but I'll decide soon. It's sad too, because I just don't like the new GT. It looks like a chubby, oddly proportioned Mercedes version of an F-Type. Just my opinion. I'm sure it's a great drive, but it's no SLS.

Sandra Rios FYI, they stopped making SLS cause the sales pretty much sucked. In terms of looks it sucked too. It may resemble a great car, but it's not beautiful, it's just well made.

Obviously Sandra thinks it is so if ( or when) she finally gets around to buying it, in her eyes, she'll have bought a beautiful car. Even if you ( or whoever else) thinks it's not. Personally Its middle of the road ( ish) for me but again, entirely subjective.

I have to have a good taste in cars, and this is what I'm judging from. If people would be judging from your standpoint, Chrysler Airflow wouldn't have been so bad at sales as well as Edsel....

The stiff as hell throttle cable and that hard thump in the chest at every gear change in the automatics are actually two of my favourite features of 1980's Mercs.

I never knew about this car from AMG....what a badass looking machine....omg. That red hot turbo on the engine was pretty cool, crazy how they put the engines through those kinds of tests.

I have a w124 300E coupe, this video made me happy :). Also its a manual so no hard thunks for me!

There we go. Yeah, I'm kind of in heaven now. I remember when the Hammer came out and my dad had been driving a couple S class for 10 years. I was in love with them, my total dream car!

Hammer the M117 300E engine with AMG touch, instead of M119 the 500E had. True AMG engine for the Benz. The car that broke the 300 km/h mark. #1 on my wish list.

Tuned is an average of 10 minutes per episode. That's our target, and that's what data suggests we should be hitting. Some are slightly shorter, but most are at least 1-2 minutes longer.

Got a S124 E class from 87 myself. Sleek, classic and indestructible. 3 litre diesel with 580 000 km on the odometre and still runs like a beaute. Love 123, 124 chassis mercs!

Always loved the Hammer, and a coupe version, just awesome. Damn you rain!

I bought my first car last week, a W124. I plan on making it look like Hammer when I fix a couple of problems.

The M117 560 engine is amazing, but the successor is even better. I have the M119 in my 500SL and it’s beyond amazing!

People who know just give you a wet smile when you reference the Merc Hammer. Legend in sheet metal.

Mortalomena Fine, if that's the LFA that does the piping of engine sound into the cabin, that's fine with me. I don't like Lexus, I don't like paddle shifters, and I don't like LCD dashboards, and yet the LFA grew on me for some reason. Anyway, piping real engine noise is fine. But playing back sound sample through car stereo? I think this is below cheesy.

Mortalomena Straight six is a beautiful configuration. I find it disappointing that more and more things become computer simulated. It's like pushing adult entertainment in favor of real woman. Sure, for some it make sense. But if one has a choice, it seems rather silly to go for emulation.

W124 is my favourite. So rare, this and the convertible version.

there is one parked up in Islington that i drive past daily, has a cover on it most of the time. Had absolutely no idea what it was called until i saw this video pop up either! just assumed it was a wide body kit on an old Mercedes!

+Davidovar34 have you seen a w124 e class? They're tiny compared to the modern c class. This car is very small and has a ton of power. It doesn't really matter though. Most remaining examples of the Hammer have died or put away in someones collection. I wish I could buy one.

Not to mention if you want a fast car it's not an SEC, you take a 560 SEC, take the M119 out of that and throw it into a 107C chassis essentially creating a 560 SLC. That my friends is a fast car.
