The recent revamp of the American Express Platinum card brought us an annual $200 hotel credit to be used on Fine Hotels & Resorts or Hotel Collection properties booked through Amex Travel. This is a solid credit that you need to be sure to take advantage of every year. I will show you how to book a hotel so that you can trigger this credit.
Although Amex claims that you receive $550 worth of value with the FHR benefits, I would beg to differ. Most of these FHR benefits you can get with elite statuses through the hotels loyalty program. The stand out FHR benefit is a $100 experience credit that you can use during your stay at specific locations on the hotel property.
Therefore, these benefits do NOT equal $750 in value. I believe a more accurate valuation is around $300 ($200 Hotel credit + $100 property credit).
It is an easy deal to combine the perks of the $200 hotel credit, 5x earning multipliers on Hotel books, and the Fine Hotel & Resorts benefits. However, after using the hotel credit will you still get value from the FHR benefits? That is for you to decide as it will depend on how you value those benefits.

The reason why the "elite membership" type benefits given through Amex are valuable is mainly because booking through travel portals doesn't allow you to use said status. And even though I found some places a few dollars more on Amex Travel versus direct, you still come out ahead with the $200 hotel credit, experience credit, 5x reward, etc more than make up for it, though YMMV. Great Video!

Question: If you get your card in the middle of the year, and use the hotel credit between June and Dec. Do you get another credit in Jan of the following year even though you are still in your first year of Amex Plat? Or is it one time credit for every year of your Plat membership?

This credit renews every CALENDAR year. so in your scenario you would get one from June - Dec and another one when Jan comes around. Thank you for watching 👍🏽
I want to use my $200 Hotel credit in Cairo for September and only 3 FHR and 1 HC available and they are all super expensive. Weighing the options of opening Hilton Honors since I have spend coming up and get the 70K + free night and the Hilton there is 30K/night 🤷🏽♂️ gotta figure lots out !! Yet another great Chase Y. video. I LOVE my platinum card. It saves me $ on my already existing Equinox membership that has a gym walking distance from my home, and also love that I can buy the cheap seats at Lakers/Kings/Clippers games and head to the Centurion Lounge for duration of the game. This saves me $$$$$. Oh, and the fact that my card is the Schwab card makes me love it even moreso.
