Americans Try To Say French Words

Комедия

I make Americans speak basic French! It's simple, the rule is they have to be 100% American to participate. Then, I show them a series of easy French words/phrases and they have to attempt to say them out-loud. Thats it!

    I don't, I think it's cool when people speak other languages well or at least try to. I'm English and in England french is one of the languages u can study at school as a kid like Spanish is to Americans (kinda but English ppl are generally worse at other languages) and I speak pretty well and I've allways had good fairly prenunciation even for words I don't know. I pick up accents well

    That’s painful to watch. Are they being serious? I honestly can’t tell. 😫Considering we borrow approximately 29% of our language from French (and also from what we’ve picked up in basic geography and history), they should realize you can’t apply English principles to French. A very common word like bouquet isn’t pronounced “bow-ket”. It’s like they’re pronouncing the words phonetically in English and not even attempting the proper pronunciation. At least the French people tried (and did really well).

  • @yayabelico

    @yayabelico

    3 жыл бұрын

    yeah its hard for native english speakers because our languages principles apply differently like with homonyms, homophones, heterosounds, heterographs, etc. and do you know what phonetic means? lmfao english isnt phonetic but spanish is, so when we see another language we assume its phonetic because most other languages are, like the most learned 2nd language, spanish.

    Just be careful because in french "ou" means "or" and "où" means "where". So it's où sont les toilettes. And "é" doesn't sound the same as "e" (which don't sound at all 😂) so it's enchanté and not enchante

    From what I have learned in learning new languages was a rule that I would use constantly, 'Think like the language you are learning.' For example, when learning русский which I still am, I remind myself, think in Russian not English. Same would go for every other language, even if you have no clue whatsoever on how the language may sound, try your hardest to imagine how it may sound saying a certain word from that language. It helps, it sure helped me. До пожаловать.

    English contains a massive amount of French words (due to 1066 and William of Normandy conquering England), but most Americans can't pronounce them as the French do. They'll pronounce everything phonetically as they learned in Spanish class. That doesn't work well with French. Even if they do pronounce the words correctly, their accent is likely to murder the words.
