A quick tip to all foreigners trying to speak Indian names: you pronounce just as it is written. There are almost never silent letters in Indian names (when written in English) as most of the languages India uses are based on pronunciations and not on spellings.....like you spell Honest but H is silent in english, but in Hindi you speak what you write. So don't try to over think what the name can be...they look difficult but are not..... Hope this helps you.

Some of them were phonetic, but the pronunciation of consonants like the 'dh' are similar to Irish so it was easier for me!

Russians; Chinese Japanese; most Asian countries; some Scandinavians; some Europeans and anyone in near close to any Middle Eastern countries have too also very difficult names (both first and last names at times) to pronounce as well; and you are right about what you said!!
