Americans Move Abroad to Paris - Living Overseas / French Apartment Problems Vlog

Get busy living or get busy dying. After a couple of years of saving money, along with other Americans, we made the big move to Paris, France. We didn’t want to wait until we retired to live abroad. Little did we know, there were so many uphill battles settling in a new country. The French apartment we moved into had its own set of problems. Luckily we had a wonderful landlady (and an amazing handyman from Lithuania) that took care of us.
In France, things in general take a little bit longer. Our apartment was not equipped with internet and it took 3 weeks to get fiber optics installed and running. After living 3 months in France, you have the right to apply for universal healthcare. Whether you get it within a decent time is another story. You have to fight with the system, submit and re-submit what feels like a hundred documents. And all your paperwork has to be mailed in! It took Jackie several months to receive her Carte Vitale, the universal healthcare card. Kev is still waiting for his to this day.
Certain states in America have reciprocity with France when applying for a driver’s license; meaning if your home state is on the list, you can apply and get your French driver’s license without taking the test. Again, it took several months to obtain it due to the extensive paperwork and slow administration. Despite all we went through, we wouldn’t trade it for the world. We are living the way we want to live NOW!
‪@TheEarfulTower‬ was hosting a wonderful event at the Distillerie du Viaduc in the 12th arrondissement. The Parisian gin and pastiche were surprisingly smooth in all the drinks. Kev tried andouillette for the second time. It is definitely an acquired taste. Hope this video inspires you to take a chance and see where life takes you. You never know what experiences you are missing.

I first heard of you on ABC radio with Rod Quinn interviewing you. I very much seen you come back to Australia and have always been interested in your journey. I love Paris… had a trip in 2015 and now am obsessed with watching folk who are there. I live in Tassie but am from USA originally. I am retired school teacher and just would like to travel here again. Once was not enough. Thank you for sharing your journey.😊
