How *presumptuous* of you to *_think_*_ you know_ what *_she_*_ was _*_thinking_* while being *attacked* by a apex predator. She was likely *_terrified_* and in *_immense pain,_* but the _shock, adrenaline_ and _cortisol_ would've kicked in, so it might seem _surreal_ to her, as people tended to her and got her to safety. Once paramedics/medical staff got to her, she'd have likely been given *_painkillers_* and *_blood transfusions_* for the blood loss. I do hope she recovers and can eventually become mobile again, likely with a prosthetic. It's sad that she's just 22, and had this life-changing incident and devastating injury.

...... Fact: it is rare - unless you buy into the Hollywood ticket selling hype (FEAR SELLS)... Fact: Every time you go into the ocean, they are there - always have been. These animals have been there FOR A LONG TIME. ..... The most dangerous thing in the water are other people ... People feeding sharks is a BAD IDEA ... Fun to watch, but it removes their fear of us... And associates people with a "snack".
Hopefully this helps someone… but I grew up in Hawai’i and some measures we take to stay safe are -never swimming during dusk or dawn -get out of the water if you see turtles or seals or also if you see a school of fish jumping and fleeing from something -don’t swim in waters that’s near waterways (streams, rivers etc) that merge/empty into the ocean or the day after a heavy rain -don’t swim when the ocean is murky -do research to see if there’s patterns of certain times/months with more shark attacks than normal and avoid swimming at those times -if you can find out when pupping season is for the top predatory sharks in your area is, avoid swimming at those times -as tempting as the solitude is, never be the only person in the water, you’re safer in numbers -remember that you aren’t safe just because you’re in shallow water -NEVER turn your back to the ocean. You should pay attention so you know if a rogue wave, surfboard or SHARK is approaching you and if they are they won’t be coming from shore. -piggy backing off of the above, I just recently saw a video of a man who studies great white and tiger shark behavior by watching them with his drone and something that stuck out to me is he said one behavior that he witnessed 100% of the time, was that sharks always approached surfers and sup boarders from behind a few times to “check them out”. The people never even realized the sharks were right there and he had no way of warning them. What was interesting, was that the sup boarders were in open ocean paddling in various directions and the sharks always could tell which end was the peoples front and which was their back and they would swim out undetected until able to approach from behind… it was creepy to see. So that, to me, is just another reason to not have my back to the ocean.

@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom

@@nofilterbtxh5000 To be fair, these people didn’t benefit from ancestors teaching them these things like we did, because they had no reason to know these things if they didn’t grow up on the ocean. In Hawai’i we don’t have snakes, bears or wolves… so if I went somewhere where they have those things, I wouldn’t know how to keep myself safe either.
