Rule of thumb: if there's no cue, don't go try your first herring. Also if the fish monger doesn't take the fillets out of the fish as you order it, it may still be good but there's a high probability that it isn't. Assuming you get to see the whole fish, fresh fish has eyes that resemble pearls and it doesn't smell like fish. Served cut up with pickle and onion is an Amsterdam tourist thing, traditional way is to leave the fillets attached to the tail which you can hold as you bite chunks off. Onion is used to mask the bitter metallic taste that develops when the fish is no longer fresh.

You know what? The “traditional” clothing looked good on David, and as for you I think that even if you put on a garbage bag you would still look great😉, but the end result was great. And as for the fish: I completely agree with you, I seriously dislike fish, and that’s even a friendly way to tell it, I always say: what comes out of the sea should stay in it.🤢 and I heard David pronouncing my all time favorite word again: Fishendel🤣 Volendam is nice to visit by the way.
