Just to be clear - the first US soldiers to arrive in the UK during WW2 landed in Belfast, Northern Ireland in January 1942. Not in “Britain” as stated. 300,000 US troops were deployed in Northern Ireland.

Why were they sent to Northern Ireland? Shouldn’t some of been sent to London to help since there was so much bombing, fires, and destruction?

@@heathermartin7459 They came to train for D-Day, the invasion of Europe. Not much point in putting them in harm’s way in the South of England. And there’s not much a soldier with a rifle can do against a bomber over London. Northern Ireland was a much better option, relatively safe from German bombers, sparsely populated with plenty of land on which to train, a welcoming local population, and a self-supporting agricultural economy. Plus Belfast was a big port able to handle troop ships. From NI, the US soldiers were gradually transferred to Southern England prior to D-Day 6th June 1944.

@@josephlarmor550 wow thank you! I didn’t know that they had been sent over to train for D- Day but that makes sense. I love history and I’ve watched so many movies and documentaries about world war 2 but they don’t talk much about U.S soldiers.

@@BattlefieldNPC about 20% of these warriors would get medieval in combat, the only way to fight a war. Americans and the British always had to fight a war with rules. But not our enemies.

After the US invasions of Greenland and Iceland, the US invasion of the British Isles started with the surprise landing of a US division in Northern Ireland in early 1942, displacing the lone defending British division. Due to the UK being overcommitted to the battles of northern Africa, the US was able to quickly overrun the rest of the UK, with the only real fighting being between small units in city centers and local pubs. With the UK finally submitting to the overwhelming might of the US Army's wealth of resources, the US then forced its new vassal state to participate in its conquest of western Europe. The conquest only being stopped in central Germany by the liberating forces of the Soviet Union who then forced the US to abandon its gains in Czechoslovakia and Austria. Or so my revisionist history text book says.

Well Done, your Credo from the very first words are propaganda.

"Americans never join a battle when the odds aren't in their favor" Is this quote an insult, or just a statement of the obvious in regards to the nature of war? Why is it on America to bailout Europe time and time again? I sympathize quite a bit with the Germans in the great war. If it weren't for banking interests I don't think the US would have any reason to help the UK other than keeping the status quo. If it weren't for the butthurt French and English we wouldn't have had mustache man as a result of the treaty of versaille. It was the powers of Europe that set off that shit storm. America's fight was in the pacific. Also, Britain had to fight this fight even if the odds weren't in their favor because it was their homeland. They had no choice but to fight or be invaded. When the planes fly over Missouri and troops touch down in Illinois I'll fight.

Neither. It is a statement about the nature of americans. Many nations have joined wars to save a nation in a hopeless situation, america hasnt. Now as for the reason they joined the war: It wasnt to "bail europe out", it was because Germany declared war on the US. It was also in americas interest to send troops to europe to ensure the soviets didnt take more in the peace deal. If america didnt join the war in europe they wouldve been at a disadvantage in the cold war as most of europe wouldve been soviet aligned. So the simple truth is: Americans never join a battle when the odds arent in their favor AND to expand on that: Americans never join a battle when it doesnt benefit their colonial interests in the region in which the war takes place.

BS, the US never goes to war unless the balance of power is not in ita favor. America was the underdog when it was forced to defend itself against England two times. BTW: The US won both those wars. Also, at the start of WW2, Germany & Japan had stronger militaries than America. But, Germany & Japan both lost.

America in the revolutionary war was aided by France and Spain (so, not on your own), as for WW2, we were a collective called 'The Allies', which included Russia (again, not on your own) . However, when was the USA 'forced' to defend itself against England twice ? Hope you ain't referring to the war of 1812-14, because at best, you acheived a draw, so, keep painting the White House white, hides those scorch marks made by the East Essex Regiment, who also ate a meal inside the capitol building while the US troops done a runner. PS. I would never go as low as to mention Vietnam
