American's try traditional Filipino Street Food | Mactan Island, Cebu
We love Cebu! Our first experience here was to try some authentic Filipino street food. We joined our local Filipino friends at the street market in Lapu Lapu, Meagaworld at the Mactan Newtown. The market was around the famous Liberty Shrine in Mactan and had a great atmosphere. From our Airbnb, we could see the blue and white lights of the market and as we got close we could hear some happenin' music. When we stepped into the market, there was a Zumba group dancing to some pumpin' music! It was lots of fun right off the bat.
We took a quick tour of all of the food options and shops that were there and made our choice. We decided to try a couple types of seaweed and to buy some pork and a FULL FISH that they grill on the BBQ. We have never tried anything like that seaweed. It was salty, slimy, and....delicious! We really liked it, especially how the little pods popped into our mouths. The other seaweed felt like noodles that we were chasing around our mouths as we tried to bite into them. It was a fun new experience.
When the pork and fish were done, they brought them out to us to try. They both tasted so good! We weren't quite sure about the fish because we have never eaten an entire whole fish before. The moment we bit in, we were hooked. It was really delicious! We ate it down to the very bone and then got some fun pictures with the fish's head and bones.
After our delicious dinner, we decided to get an avocado and green mango shake. The avocado shake was the best we have ever had. It tasted so yummy. It was a great evening at the Filipino market!

filipinos usually use fingers to eat grilled fish by separating the meat from the bones then dipping the meat on a small platter of sauce (vinegar / soy sauce / chili / spices) after eating the grilled fish meat, we finish it off with a cooked rice (sometimes with puso (hanging rice)) to neutralize the acidity / sweetness / oiliness or saltiness
Watching you guy with those delicious food made me hungry

Seaweed salad is very healthy and delicious. I am half-Filipino and I would eat that fish with a fork or using fingers. That's not how to eat it, though. The bones hurt so bad if accidentally swallowed. I would start by prying the meat behind its head with a fork or spoon or your fingers. You can leave the abdomen part where the ribs start. This fish is easy to eat. Not so bony. Just pick the bones from the abdomen and the dorsal part. I think it's called Bulaw or Mackerel in English. You have to ask the locals how to eat something you're not familiar with. Either way, great videos!
You have to pinch a portion of the smoked fish to eat it. It's amazing that you liked the seaweeds salads. That's my favorite too. ☺️
From Mactan Island, you can also go to SM Seaside through the 3rd bridge thennear SM seaside there's Cebu Ocean Park, etc. You may also want to drop by Ayala Center Cebu in Cebu Business Park..

Yes Lato or sea grapes, and the other one is Guso, a local seaweed.
I'm Filipino but never tried the seaweed salad. That looks delicious. That avocado shake i like. One of my favorite fruitshake.

Seaweeds (agar-agar) and sea grapes (lato) are mostly a thing in visayas and mindanao especially partnered with grilled fish.

I miss eating those seafood salad. You guys are sooooo good & brave to try different kinds of food. Impressive! By the way, if you decide to see the whale sharks then make sure to be there very early in the morning to avoid the very long queue. That's the advice the advice from other vloggers. I’m from mindanao… na now living in metro Manila… but in terms of street food… lechon, etc2x… cebu is the best of pampanga is great, Davao is awesome manila has options but really expensive ones.. but cebu.. oh cebu… hahaha the best! Oh ilo2x is also really awesome with food. :)

Glad you loved the food. We don't eat grilled fish that way though. We pick the meat with our fingers, then eat the meat piece by piece. You can dip it in some condiments if you want before eating. :) Love you intro btw. Like a TV show. :)

There can never be more fresher taste of cooked fish than in the 🇵🇭. Enjoy it guys.....not only that fish are sold the day they are catched, we hardly sell any frozen fish around as it is readily available whereas in the 🇺🇸 everything has to be imported because the selection there is limited. You need to try more types of fish and appreciate the subtle varied taste. But it will be a long commitment as you can only appreciate the taste when you eat it for a long time

Seaweed salad is delicious and it is a very good source of iodine.

Lily is very pretty. I guess she's also having a great time in Cebu. We usually eat that sea grapes (Arosep in Ilocano) with tomatoes, fresh onion and Bagoong (fermented fish sauce) and that's good with that fish (Bangus - milk fish) ❤
6:55 I think this is like the "staple food" fish of the Philippines.. The Bangus, aka Milkfish.. But correct me if I am wrong, I am not the fish expert.. If you want to try some else grilled fish, get a tuna collar.. or tuna belly.. For streetfood markets in Cebu, try also the Sugbo Mercado at Cebu IT Park or if you want it more OG vibe, with music and fun, the Night Market at Colon Street.

That fish is the "matangbaka" or bigeye scad fish.
That sea weeds actually you eat with soy sauce vinigar chilli and you can mix with fish and if we taosog we eat with pioto and sianglag instead of rice very nice that’s one of my favourite food ❤❤❤
