American's Thai Family STOLE His House & Land in Thailand (Big Update)

In this follow-up interview, Dakota shares the latest chapter in his extraordinary saga-one filled with unexpected twists, profound challenges, and unwavering resilience.
Born to a Thai mother and an American father whose love story unfolded amidst the backdrop of the Vietnam War, Dakota's early years were marked by upheaval and uncertainty. After relocating to the United States at just three months old, Dakota's family faced the tumultuous fallout of a fractured relationship, ultimately leading his mother to return to Thailand, severing Dakota's ties to his homeland.
But fate intervened decades later, when a chance encounter with a Thai exchange student reignited Dakota's connection to his roots. Through the exchange student's tireless efforts, Dakota was reunited with his long-lost Thai family, sparking a profound journey of rediscovery and renewal.
Venturing to Thailand, Dakota embraced his heritage with open arms, embarking on a transformative odyssey that saw him build a home on his late mother's land. Dakota then lived and worked in Thailand for seven years.
Yet, as Dakota returned to the United States, he was confronted with an unexpected betrayal. Discovering that his uncle had unlawfully seized his land and home.
In this interview video, Dakota shares the developments in his ongoing quest for justice and closure. .

The place was like a huge bungalow, the envy of all in the area. Well sadly when the house was finished, the Thai lady's family turned up, one of the guys put a gun to the 'Farang's' head and he ran! he fled the island. A common misconception that the Tabieen Baan denotes ownership of the property. It doesn't. It merely lists those who are registered as living there, mainly these days for ID card and other registry purposes. Its pretty clear the relatives pulled the wool over his eyes, giving him the tabieen baan and letting him think the place was in his name, when in reality he had signed over the land from his inheritance and had his name left on the tabieen baan as window dressing. Sad to say it, but that million baht will be long gone by the time he gets here. No one is holding that money in escrow for him.

Hit the nail on the head. The majority of rural Thais struggle with money management. As this is over 2 years ago since the house was sold i would imagine the vast majority of that money is gone. In terms of legal recourse - that could be a very long and expensive process and given that he signed over the property and land rights then is becomes a he said she said argument.

Just think about the context of the late 60’s and early 70’s- Harsh and the impact of war on the individuals who serviced and their families is devastating!!! I remember the first story & it was good to hear the second part, I'm very surprised that he even got the 800,000 baht back for the house build, so I wish him all the luck to get the money back for the land, I doubt he will have much luck getting the money back for the land, but at least confronting his uncle will make him see that he has done wrong & also lose face, being charged double for the original build is probably the norm for some dishonest people, but at least he was told about this although it was too late, I'm hoping there will be more content on this story, but the best outcome would be that he gets better & that he can put all this behind him.....

I have google "Can a foreigner inherit land in Thailand?" and got : "yes as a statuory heir, but he cannot register ownership of the land because he will not be given permission. Under present law he must dispose of the land within a reasonable period (meaning up to 1 year) to a Thai national". But I guess because the uncle had previously no legal right to sell house and land, that will not be easy to recover the money from the uncle.
