There's something about Scotland. Living on a tiny island in the Mediterranean Sea, nothing could be further from home than Scotland in ambience and weather, and yet when I visited, I felt right at home, as if I belonged there. A second and third visit did nothing to dispel that feeling. Truly magical. Glen Coe is something else. We kept stopping our rental car to soak it all in. The Scottish have every right to be proud of their country. It's amazing.

Hello the Lady Erica. The lad Joel is doing a fine job of exploring and presenting his impressions of the UK. My connection was a Scots father so I know the area Joel's been through in this video. He's right that the camera can't catch the magic of being stood in a place that's wrapped in history and events, feeling the breeze on your face hearing the sounds of water tumbling down a hillside or as waves lapping on a shore. As Joel remarked you can watch any number of videos but nothing compares to being stood in the place. You may need an interpreter for when he gets back home if the Scottish accent roots itself any deeper ( aye )

However, like you, I understand if people are genuinely feeling they get a raw deal from the Union, and believe they'd do better on their own, and are unable to negotiate a better situation, then independence must be the way to go.

The weather can be "difficult" at times, lol, but in general the Scots are really friendly, warm, and welcoming and they will go out of their way to help you if you need directions or assistance - provided you can understand them :) Of course, the wet weather is what makes Scotland so green and helps to keep the LOCHS (not lakes, lol) full to the brim. If you have a chance, try a morning roll (sort of like a hamburger bun but not sweet and they are delicious) with some square Lorne sausage, black pudding, potato scone and HP Brown Sauce for breakfast. I said before I'm a southern dude and our summers last 2 months longer down here in Bath. I have Scottish friends here in my Uni..we are finishing for the summer tomorrow and going our separate ways until September. I wonder where you'll go next? To be honest I wish you would share more on YT because not all of us can afford your Patreon when we're on students budgets..as a fellow student I'm sure that you understand that

It’s nothing like the Pyrenees.

@@jmcc2275 Erm it actually is, we have had a family holiday home in Cauterets for twenty years (IN the Pyrenees National Park) I didn't say it was identical, but it reminded me of it unless you have another axe to grind
I’m Edinburgh born and bred, but, I truly feel connected to Scotland the further north I go❤️I travel up to the highlands as often as I can, it’s untouched mostly. The glens and lochs are just as they have always been❤️I’m SO glad your here!🥰🏴

None of our countryside is really untouched. There should be much heavier tree cover and clearing small farming communities of the land for sheep did an huge amount of both social and environmental damage. Basically our countryside hasn't been really wild for centuries and certainly not since the agricultural and industrial revolutions, but the upside is that we don't have famines any more and it's very beautiful.
Yay! I'm glad your visit here has, it seems, been much better than your previous trip to Edinburgh. I was so disappointed for you when you had those negative interactions in the capital. Anyhoo, I look forward to seeing more from your trip .......AYE! 😆👍
Welcome back to Scotland J, so glad you decided to go up north, it's truly beautiful up there.
Joel hope you are having great time on your journey.
Dude you could have stayed at my apartment in Edinburgh! It’s just off the Mile! Next time reach out would save you hundreds, heck I’d have given you a car for your stay mate! ❤❤❤ next time reach out J
Inver Rayray! Thanks for travelling to my home town. Duke of Argyll lives in Argyll Castle. You mised the chance to take the West Highland Railway.
Hi JP....We were up in Scotland just a few days before you which was a cancelled trip from 3 years ago due to you know what !! & you are right a camera does not do it justice you have to see it with your own eyes the absolute beauty of the Scottish landscape ! We took the train from Yorkshire to Glasgow via Edinburgh & went to Loch Lomond then the following day we took the train up to Fort William & then got on the Hogwarts's express to Mallaig then we did the reverse journey over 5 days & had a final overnight stay in Glasgow before returning home ! I would highly recommend it to anyone !
I am from Loch Lomond, it’s joyous to hear you appreciate my home country.
It's so great to see you clearly enjoying your trip to the Highlands despite the weather and well done for eating the Mussells (shudders). It's also great that you're being more recognised on this trip which shows that people really appreciate what you do. I hope the rest of your trip is just as successful as it appears to have been up to now.

Haha you realise in Scotland “shudders” means shoulders 😂
It's good that you get recognised, but not really all that surprising, as it seems the vast majority of your subscribers are British 🙌😂
Aye is great. Only worry if it's followed by 'right'. 'Aye, right' = No, or Really?, or 'if you say so, but I'm highly doubtful' It's the most wonderful phrase that is entirely in the delivery & context, & possibly completely indecipherable if you're not Scottish, which allows it & the speaker to appear polite & non-confrontational whilst in no way agreeing with you 😂 Glad you have us a second chance & you're enjoying your trip. Honestly, it was really sunny the week before you came!😁

Even more so if it’s “Oh aye? That’ll be right.” = “What a load of nonsense” (polite version). My father (long dead) was able to say “Oh aye, is that so?” on the phone in such a way that it was impossible for the listener to tell if it was a genuine question, agreement or pure irony (the best bet was the latter).
4 times? You are officially famous 😀. Nice views of Scotland by the way. Brings back good memories. The landscape, the castles, the weather...
It's good to see you enjoying being on Scottish soil, it's a stunning place to be. You have to do reaction videos of Still Game now that you have been, you will enjoy it.
You seem so much happier and more relaxed once you get out of town. The mussels though!
Its awesome you're getting recognised Joel! Glad you're enjoying yourself! 😊😊
Heh heh! I’m Scottish, live in Glasgow but not from there and I work all over our beautiful country…I’m telling you you’re not alone with understanding accents…as I say I’m from here and I swear to Goodness people here need to come with subtitles😂😂😂. Loving your work ❤️
I've been watching your videos for a while now and they are great your eagerness to learn about the UK is brilliant and your respect ful to the UK too.. By the way when you said about Scotland needing to be seen to be believed them you also really need to check out Wales too. The thing is each region of the UK has its own chas and beauty and you can't take people's words as gospel when they say don't visit certain area s of the UK..it's a place you can spend a lifetime in and not see all of it s beauty but it's got Fanta landscapes everywhere in every part of the UK nations and regions
I'm not long back from a wild camping trip in Scotland - it was beyond awesome! Travelling up the east coast past the Isle of Arran to Glasgow, along Loch Lomond up to Glencoe, Isle of Skye, Inverness, Cairngorms. One of my favourite places on earth and I've travelled a fair bit and lived on several different continents. Enjoy!
Even soaked through you can see how much you liked it .
Thank you for your interest in the UK. If you want to delve deeper, I recommend you try listening to British folk music. It tells historic tales. A good place to start is with a Scottish duo called the Corries. Some of the highland place names you mentioned are also the titles of some of the folk songs that they sang. It will give you a deeper insight into the traditions, culture and feeling surrounding British history, and their present-day traditions. This folk music is very tied to local areas of the UK, and is absolutely not like Dylan, or C&W. Try The Dubliners for Ireland, or Tommy Armstrong for Geordie (Newcastle area) songs. These are a few of the famous names, but there are dozens or hundreds of very well known folk groups and singers/players telling the history of their part of England, Ireland, Wales or Scotland in music.
Hi Joel I’ve traveled the states extensively and met many Americans, your a credit to your parents.
I've travelled all over the UK and the west coast of Scotland has some of the best scenery, especially around Fort William. When it's sunny it obviously looks spectacular but the rain is so typical of this part of Britain and I'm glad you experienced it this way, a sort of classic way to see the highlands. Pleased that you've been here and for me this was perhaps the best vlog so far, although all are excellent. Keep up the great work mate. 🙂
You are such a special lad ! I live in Edininburgh and you would always be welcome ! Sorry about the rain - but it keeps everything green !!!
Honestly it isn't always grey and rainy. We were up on the North Coast earlier this year and it was blue skies and blue sea the whole time with very little rain.
I've been watching for a very long time know keep up the great videos 🙌
I’m so glad you are having a more positive experience of my wee country this time. Shame about the rain, 2 weeks ago the sun was splitting the skies….but at least you’re getting an authentic experience of Scotland in the summer💦😅💦🏴

The warmth of the Scots hospitality dries any amount of rain. That and the central heating from drinking the whisky. Regards from London.
