American Reacts to US vs UK Movie Theatre Food 🍿
In this video I react to US vs UK movie theatre food. Turns out that the most popular movie theaters in both countries, AMC vc Odeon, happen to be owned by the same company. Our movie theatre foods and snacks are definitely different. I'm SHOCKED that Brits eat their popcorn without butter! 😲
Thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this reaction please give this video a thumbs up, share your thoughts in the comments and click the subscribe button to follow my journey to learn about my British and Irish ancestry.

Not sure if anyone's pointed this out, but when the UK guy said Smarties they showed the US smarties, which are similar to what we call "Refreshers" here. Our Smarties are chocolate in a hard candy shell, similar to M&Ms.

I used to work in a cinema, and one time an American tourist asked for buttered popcorn and I was so confused. "What? Buttered? What do you mean? Huh? No? It's sweet, salted or mixed, what other way is there?" and he seemed just as confused at my confusion

We used to have butter, but it was horrible to clean up everyday 😅 many cases of cinemas not even bothering 😂😂😂
Cinema food is normally twice as much as we would buy the in a shop
If I wanted to take a family of 4 to an odeon, each get a large popcorn and drink, that would cost me approximately £110 or $140 which for me is a ⅓ of a weeks take home pay.

I can still remember the song we all sang in ABC cinemas, with the singing led by the long-suffering cinema manager who had to stand in front of the screen and endure the whole thing being pelted with bits of popcorn and anything else handy. (He must have dreaded Saturday mornings!) Huge fun but completely manic. There were teen 'monitors' who did nothing but add to the general sense of confusion and mayhem! The song? 'We are the boys and girls all known as, minors of the ABC, and every Saturday all line up, to see the films we like and shout aloud with glee. We like to laugh and have a sing-song, such a happy band are we, we're all pals together, we're minors of the ABC!

My first job here in the UK was when I was 17 in a cinema. Although very rare, you CAN in some old school cinemas get butter but as time goes on its less and les likely. Mainly because we have the sweet version as well as salted as I don't think sweet popcorn is a thing in the US. Likewise it's the same for store bought popcorn, you just wouldn't be able to buy popcorn butter or put it on at home
They used to police people coming into the cinema with food when I was younger but nowadays here in London (Wimbledon) I just pop Into Morrison's supermarket right next door and buy all my snacks (except the drink for some reason 😂) and then stroll in like its picnic time 😂 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also as an adult there's one thing I miss in cinemas that I had as a kid and that's someone coming round halfway through selling ice-cream! 😋 😅
I can't think of anything worse to do to popcorn than making it all soggy and greasy with melted butter. Popcorn should be salt and sugar and nothing else.
I'm from the UK and in 2005 we went to visit our friends in Idaho. While there we went to see a Harry Potter film at the cinema and I was horrified to find butter popcorn, plus an option for extra butter. My husband was keen to try it, which he enjoyed. I, however, had one mouthful and felt like I have a layer of wax coating the inside of my mouth. So weird... and gross! 🤢
I dread to think what is in that "butter"

Looking forward to the next one 👍🏼
I make my own popcorn, then give it a spritze of oil (sunflower usually) and then it goes in a bowl where I add flavourings, eg cayenne pepper or garlic salt. the oil helps the flavour to stick to the corn.
We used to have AMC cinemas in the UK in the late 80's, early 90's then I think they were bought out by odeon or some other UK company. Butter on popcorn was common at those AMC but that seemed to stop when they went, and also probably due to health concerns , as it was a really sickly thing to eat, I always felt like vomiting when the butter ran down my throat!
19:30 when I was a teen (15 years ago) they used to search your bags to check for food/drinks. These days they are not allowed (or just don't care anymore) to and everyone more or less brings their owns food. Personally I like buttered popcorn but I couldn't imagine eating it at a cinema. Home for sure, because I can wash my hands.
I once went to the cinema in the UK on a blind date and because I didn't like her within 5 minutes, but could tell she liked me, to drop a hint I asked if they did garlic popcorn. 😂

We get nacho cheese sauce like what you'd get with taco bell (I have one here in Yorkshire) Really funny reaction. I love these guys too. Look up their 'food tours' series where they take each other around favourite places to eat, in each others respective countries
Dasani water was banned in the uk and may still be due to it coming out of a tap and then bromide was then found in the bottles themselves.
That 'butter' actually consists of a seasoning called flavacol (salt and colouring, hence the yellow) plus a 'butter flavoured topping' (why not use actual butter - just a suggestion....🤷🏽♀️). The 'butter flavoured topping' is an oil that mimics the taste of butter and is made with a cocktail of chemicals such as beta carotene, polydimethylsiloxane, which is a silicon polymer, tertiary butyhydroquinone (an antioxidant but you can look up the dangers of eating that stuff), and hydrogenated soybean oil (a trans-fatty acid). Are you sure you want to be eating that let alone feeding it to your children...? Personally, I'd rather stick with the UK version. Thanks but no thanks 🤢🤮👎🏼

We are sneaky in the UK. So the price of sweets in the UK cinema is 3 times more than in our local supermarkets, so we put food in our pockets or rucksacks. Me and my husband buy a meal deal at our local Sainsbury’s (a sandwich, bag of crisps, and a drink) and put it into our pockets or bags to avoid the horrendous costs of buying food at the cinema. We even get points on our loyalty cards when we go to our local cinema, which means if we go and see 3 films we get,a free bucket of popcorn! And since covid, our cinema has reduced the price of tickets across the board. We now have seat’s that recline and are further apart! And we get free parking. Our local council charges something called council tax for local businesses. This means that the closer you are to the centre of town, the more you pay. So our business have moved cinemas to the outskirts of towns and cities. We also have things called industrial estates. So this is an area where local businesses can work without the horrendously high taxes of towns and cities. So you can visit a vet, get your car serviced, buy food goods from abroad ( we have in Peterborough a massive Indian, Polish, Romanian, Ukrainian and Armenian people’s) without paying city centre prices. There are 74 different languages spoken in Peterborough. A truly multicultural city which I love but unfortunately I am among the few xx
