Even funnier is that SO many British people don't realise that the BEST beaches in the UK are actually around Scotland... Miles of pure WHITE, soft sand and due to the climate, the least occupied by tourists - sometimes just empty or with a few people dotted around! You only have to put into 'Google Images' the phrase "Scotland's white, sandy beaches" and you get an idea! It includes many of the Scottish islands too. Maybe one of the UK's best kept, yet obvious 'secrets', perhaps? 🤔 😅 😂 🤣

@@stewedfishproductions7959 I think most of us here realise you have lovely beaches (maybe matched by some in Cornwall and Wales) but the weather is a problem it's why they are empty and the sea is freezing! But that aside you have a beautiful country and you are blessed with that beauty! I'm Welsh😀😀

I was thinking of other places within Britain that were not mentioned such as Yorkshire, Oxford etc.. but you're quite correct, when I think closer to home, Bath, Chedder, The Somerset flats, Wells cathedral, Maesbury castle (just a round lump in the dirt now, but still...) and of course the sunrise or sunset from the top of Glastonbury Tor, Dartmoor, Exmoor, The New forest, Stonehenge, Avebury, I mean the list of historic and/or noteworthy areas is endless and as you say, most within 50 miles of home.

I definitely agree with that statement. I was born and raised in the Scottish Borders so I can say that you've got places like Edinburgh, Glasgow, all the 4 Border abbeys; Melrose, Jedburgh, Kelso and Dryburgh. You've also got smaller tourist attractions like Mary, Queen of Scots house in Jedburgh and you've got lovely coastal towns like Berwick-upon-Tweed. There's also the obligatory shout-out of my hometown of Peebles.

@@taylormade2826 My husband took me on a day trip from the East Midlands to The Great Orme, which was really great and I was amazed by how many castles we passed along the way just in Wales. But sadly, I've not spent any time at all in Central Wales yet, but my favorite places so far, as an American living in England have been in Southern Wales. Most notably so far have been Pembrokeshire & the castle there, the Brecon Beacons, Abergavenny, Abertillery & Monmouthshire were all so amazing. I do want to go back to North Wales for a proper visit. Do you have any suggestions for me to visit in particular, please? And, where in Northern Wales are you calling 'Mysterious'? I would very much like to go back and see much more 😃

So many British people don’t know anything of these, they prefer to jump on a plane and head off to lie on a Mediterranean beach and spend all night in a club, they don’t know what they are missing but probably wouldn’t appreciate them anyway. He mentions the south east, Cornwall and Lake District but hardly any other part of England. Just to throw in a few Dartmoor, Exmoor, The Cotswolds, Shakespeare country, East Anglia, the Peak District, The Yorkshire Dales and Moors, Northumberland, the Scottish Lowlands and many more…..you’ll never see them all on one holiday trip.

As someone who lives in Brighton, I can tell you it definitely doesn't look like somewhere in the Mediterranean 😂The beaches are pebbles rather than sand. That being said, this contributes to the best thing about Brighton, the nightlife. During the summer, people will sit on the beach drinking all day, then, because of the lack of sand and need to shower after going, head straight to the bars. The vibe hits different. It is an amazing city and there's a lot of good things to see. I love living here and would recommend it for anyone in their 20's or 30's.

We even have a tiny desert in Dungeness. And I know this will astonish most people, but in parts of east England we have less rainfall on average than Syria! Those hexagonal rocks of the Giant's Causeway are made of basalt and are formed from volcanic eruptions. There are many examples of those rrock formations all around the world including Scotland, Australia and America too. Big Ben is actually the name of the largest bell in the tower, and the tower itself used to be called St Stephen's Tower, but in 2012 it was renamed Elizabeth Tower, in honour of our late Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee.. that celebrated her 60 years as our Queen. The "Durdle Door" limestone arch looks like a dragon drinking water if viewed from the seaward side.❤

To answer your question about Northern Irish / Irish border...After the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, all checkpoints were gradually removed with the last being dismantled in 2006, and now you hardly notice when you go over the border except that the signs & road markings change. A completely open border is a critical part of the peace process, and was the reason why Northern Ireland was so often at the centre of the Brexit negotiations.
