I think Kingston should have made the list. I don't live there but have visited many times. It was the capital of Upper Canada, so is very historic. Also home to Queens University and the Royal Military College. Its located at the east end of Lake Ontario and is connected to Ottawa via the Rideau Canal (shown in the video with people skating in winter). Kingston is also home town to the 'Hip' (aka The Tragically Hip), possibly Canada's favourite band.

Yeah this cideo was kinda biased in my opinoon... Should have just said the whole horseshoe valley... there is that list cut in half now.... I'm not a city designer/engineer ,aybe it has to do with the way city is laid out, can it handle a large influx of population... is there room to grow...Well I guess can allways build up/// but then it takes away from that whole historic theme They got going there... but hey wtfdik?

Our first Prime Minister, Sir John A. McDonald live in the small town west of Kingston, where I live. You can tour his house, all in authentic decor and furnishings, and there’s an enormous mural of his silhouette on a building in the centre of town. Pretty cool, as I studied this stuff in public school in the 60’s! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

Weirdly, the first 2 things they showed in Ottawa, were actually in Toronto (The city hall and a theatre originally called "New Massey Hall") --- As for Niagara on the lake, the town used the name before the actual city (Upstream) where the falls thenselves exist. So, the name was altered to avoid confusion. You were wondering why the people were running through a field, well NOTL is more of a farming community, than a city! (It's a 30 min drive from me)

So you get a lot of the under achievers, with no respect for a place they don't really care about. If you live somewhere great keep it that way and only invite people you know, don't advertise to people who probably aren't capable of making better.

Three of the cities they did mention, that is Oakville, Burlington, and Hamilton, are all seamlessly connected along a 50km stretch of highway. If I were the writer of this piece, I might have chosen just one of those three.

I have been to Ottawa, Hamilton and Toronto. I absolutely love Ottawa and would move there tomorrow if I could. As a woman I find Ottawa extremely safe. I've been out by myself at Midnight - 1:00 a.m. and have never had any trouble at all. Their museums and the National Art Gallery of Canada are world class. I cannot say enough good things about Ottawa. As for Toronto - I just find it too big for me. Coming from the Prairies, I got so claustrophobic in Toronto because I couldn't see the sky. I spent 2 weeks in Hamilton a few years ago on holidays and really enjoyed that city. It is a very old city, some people call it the Pittsburgh of Canada because of the steel factories. The people I met were all very kind and pleasant and went out of their way to help me when they learned I was a tourist. I have not been to Niagara on the Lake but it is certainly a place on my wish list. I do know it is extremely historic and is purported to be the most haunted town in Canada. I would also add Stratford, Ontario. I absolutely love that city. If a person enjoys theatre - that is the place to go. Many top Canadian and some American actors still act there and got their initial training at the Stratford Theatre Festival. Come on up Tyler - you'll love it here.

Hamilton, Burlington, and Oakville abut each other in that order along Lake Ontario west to east into Toronto, with Mississauga being the city between Oakville and Toronto. I have lived all my life in Hamilton, and have worked most of my life in Burlington. It's a perfect area to live/work in that you're close enough to all the big city and cultural elements especially living close to Toronto, but just removed enough to not be overwhelmed if you don't want to live a city as big and busy as Toronto.

Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton are all within a 15 minute drive of each other so it's odd they included all of them as separate options. Still, nice they included some lesser known towns.

  • @HAnnB24

I agree, they shouldn't all have been included when they are so close, especially when there is so much of Northern Ontario that got missed. Elliott Lake might be north, but it's still south of Sault Ste. Marie. I know most of the rest of Northern Ontario might be more small towns but there's so many of them that to not have at least one of them make the list is odd. I grew up in the GTA and moved to Thunder Bay for school. The north is beautiful in it's own way, there should have been at least an honorable mention.

I go to university in Peterborough so it was awesome to see it on the list. Honestly, it’s a pretty great small city. as the narrator implied, it’s a place that gives you a lot of the stuff found in big cities while also having rural areas for hanging out and relaxing. It’s near cottage country so you’ll find a lot of people vacationing near there during the summer months. It has drawbacks, as do most places. For instance, if you’re a woman, the downtown area can be kind of sketchy (especially at night) and there’s a decent amount of homeless people walking around and begging. But overall it’s a great place to live. I also just love being near the water and Peterborough provides that without forcing me to give up the perks of a city

Ottawa is a capital city where you can easily walk around the main downtown area - houses of parliament, major art galleries, restaurants, etc. - without needing a car. Another neat thing in Ottawa is you is from central downtown you can literally walk for a few minutes over a bridge, leave Ontario and arrive in Quebec (in Hull) and get the experience of the differences between the two provinces. .

And the health care system is stretched there. London is nice. It is a University town and honestly there isn't much to do there. Toronto - I'm surprised they didn't mention the wonderful theatre community that is there. Most of the great stage plays are tried in Toronto before going to New York. Also, there is the Film Festival every year and they shoot a lot of movies here. BUT it is REALLY expensive to live there and it is a fast moving city so if you don't like fast cities....not the place for you. Ottawa is where I currently live. IT IS THE BEST!!! Cultural diversity, you get the French influence of Quebec, the old buildings, the museums and theatres, the beauty of the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal. • @Fireholder1

    @Fireholder1

The Canadian Shield is the core of the North American continental plate, comprised of Precambrian rock, and covers nearly half of Canada. The term 'shield' is a geological term to describe a region of exposed bedrock like this. Furthermore, it's not in the middle of Canada, but instead spans part of northwestern Canada, and the entirety of the eastern half of Canada, around and including Hudson Bay. It extends south into parts of the US (the Adirondack Mountains are part of it), north to the Arctic ocean, and eastward, making up most of Greenland. The Canadian Shield's formation has absolutely nothing to do with dinosaurs or oil or 'the ice age'. It is the eroded remnant of a very ancient mountain range, dating back 4 billion years.

As a Canadian, I was born and raised in Toronto in the suburbs where life is peaceful. About a 1/2 hr. to 45 min. drive to downtown Toronto. However, parking is expensive. I always opted to take bus and subway to get there. Toronto downtown is densely populated yet, not like New York. I also have lived in Windsor where there are many railroad crossings. There was no way around them without finding another railroad crossing. At each, they would go back and forth shucking cars while you wait sometimes for 20 minutes or so. Myself, I found this to be annoying especially if you had to be somewhere by a certain time. They did not mention the casino. Best thing was how easy it was to go to Detroit. I remember driving in an underground tunnel to get there. I have visited Hamilton where they have one-way streets which made it a little tricky to navigate where you wanted to go. Luckily there are nice people there willing to help you find your way. I now live in Cambridge, Ontario which has a population of 138,479 and the city is small in size. Even though it has it's issues (a lot of homeless and drug users), you don not see them much. My children live in Waterloo nearby. You see, the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo together make up the Region of Waterloo. Not sure the exact population inclusive. Think it is just under 400,000. I prefer a more rural life, as it is easier to meet people and make friends than a large city like Toronto. It also takes less time to get to where you want to go. Happy New Year!

As somebody who has lived there most of my life, it does get that city level of craziness fairly often so if you're not used to city life that can be a huge deterant. I went to university in ottawa and now live there and it is alot smaller, but still very nice. Both are fine, and universities are about the same. Kanata, a small urban town beside ottawa is quickly becoming Canada's tech hub, now having a higher percent of locals in the tech industry than silicon valley does, and massive tech buisnesses have recently set up. Really enjoyed this one. I live in Hamilton and yes it's a city population 700,000 approximately. Have been to all of them. That building in Niagara on the Lake is a hotel. 🇨🇦🇺🇸

Yay!! My hometown of Peterborough! I hardly ever see it on a list so I'm happy to see it here. It's a nice place honestly. 🥰😁 Peterborough is apart of a bigger group of smaller towns and cities within the Kawartha lakes region where a lot of people come to in the summer as we are apart of cottage country.

Windsor is very dependent of the car industries health because Ford and Chrysler have major car assembly line in this city. They have diversify their economy since Detroits bankruptcy, but still very dependent of Ford and Chrysler

I think a major difference between Canada and US cities is the amount of green space within. Greenery is good for exercise and mental health and just makes it all worthwhile.

I’ve been in Toronto for almost 10 years and I love the city but it’s just so goddamn expensive to do anything FYI - Toronto, Oakville, Burlington, Niagara on the lake, and Hamilton are all on Lake Ontario. The golden horseshoe

I was raised in Toronto. Went to college and worked in Oakville...was a radio announcer in Hamilton. All amazing. Peterborough is cottage country.

Great video as always, I've lived in Ontario all my life, couldn't imagine myself living anywhere else. I live in the country, however I do like going to the city for amenities and yes both have their perks.

Toronto is on Lake Ontario, and yes, there are several islands, one of which is occupied by Billy Bishop Airport. Actor Peter Ustinov long ago referred to Toronto as "New York run by the Swiss"... Hamilton, my hometown, is a city of half a million, and has long had a largely undeserved inferiority complex! It's at the west end of Lake Ontario, almost equidistant from Toronto and Buffalo NY (Toronto is a bit closer). The Niagara Escarpment bisects Hamilton, and the presence of numerous creeks that flow into the lake mean the city features a large number of waterfalls. Old rail lines have been turned into trails. Collingwood, on Lake Huron, is lovely. Windsor is opposite Detroit. The Detroit River separates the two. Burlington is on the north shore of Lake Ontario, between Hamilton and Oakville. I work there. Its vibe is between gritty Hamilton and tony Oakville, logically enough since it's physically between them. What is called the Golden Horseshoe surrounds the west end of Lake Ontario, from Oshawa around to Niagara. It's almost seamless city all the way round, but the actual municipalities are many (Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Lincoln, Niagara...) Kingston ought indeed to have been on the list. Bear in mind that this is very clearly a puff promo video, "chamber of commerce" stuff.

For everyone that has noted the first two images of Ottawa are not in Ottawa. I agree that the first set of buildings are Toronto City Hall but the next building is indeed in Ottawa and has been for a few years now. It is the Ottawa Convention Centre or Shaw-Centre located next to the Rideau Canal. Please come visit Ottawa and see for yourself.
