Cool that you checked Gotland in and liked it! If you ever want to check it out IRL I’d love to be your guide! I love to guide people about my home island! Just let me know
They actually scouted Gotland for shooting game of thrones, but nothing came of it in the end
There is and old myth or saga how both Gotland and Öland was created, it was actually a Giant that threw two big scops of dirt, and that is also how Värnen and Vättern was created, our two biggest lakes :P

There’s another myth that Gotland always tells about ”Tjelvar”. Something like this: ”Gotlands island sunk every day and got up to surface every night. Tjelvar brought fire to Gotland and it stopped sinking every night” That’s the one everyone here on Gotland tells. I’ve heard the one you talk about two but im not sure it was about gotland.
Used to live there for several yrs, until 5 yrs ago when I move to the biggest island of the West coast. The summers may be slightly cooler, but it’s still a summer paradise for many mainlanders, including from other countries. There are actually around 10 church ruins within the limited area of the town within the Visby city wall, some of them as large as the cathedral (at least one of them even larger). There are more than 90 medieval churches on the island (and one on Fårö, north of Gotland, known among other things for world famous director Ingmar Bergman)- I used to work as musician in 25 of them!
i live on the island

They didn't even mention Fårö or the Rauk stones???
Born, raised and living!
I think Visby is the only proper town on Gotland and the other places are just villages.
