    Winter in Norway can be unpredictable, we often get snow at the end of November, there is also snow in December, but then comes something we in Norway call "Kakelina". Then the weather changes and the weather becomes mild, and the snow disappears again. This means that it is not certain that we will have snow at Christmas, this applies especially in the southern part of Norway. But then January comes and we get snow again, and in February there can be a lot of snow, but it varies from year to year. So when we get closer to Easter, and it starts to get warm again, and the snow melts, and the days get brighter, then we may experience a lot of snow in late April for a couple of days, and it also goes back to spring again, and the snow becomes gone for good that year! But next winter may be completely different, where we may not get snow until after the New Year, or the snow already settles in October. We never know what kind of winter is coming!!

    No, the oil did NOT appear when Sweden did not rule over Norway in 1905. We invited the American Phillip Petroleum, in the 60s, to see if there was oil in the Norwegian Sea, and when they found it, we kicked them out and took the oil for ourselves!

    The big problem with only having 2 real parties is that they end up spending all their energy trashtalking the other party, while in a system with multiple parties it becomes smarter for each party to spend energy describing what you want to do instead of splitting your negativity over multiple opponents. Just like in a 1vs1 or a 5 player game the value of hurting your opponents is different!

  • @Qyngali

    @Qyngali

    Yes, and having many parties also promotes creating coalitions which forces compromises. A LOT has to go "wrong" for 1 party to get big enough to have majority rule. While a minority 1 party regjering (government) is possible, you still have to get other parties cooperation to get things done, and this can be accomplished on a case by case basis with different parties involved. Can be challenging of course, but the system works better overall for a wider range of the population. You care about the farmers? Vote this. You care about the domestic predators? You definitely do NOT vote for the party that supports the farmers lol. It can be hard to find which party supports your views and not support something that is a no go for you though, politics is never easy.

    No, Norway got rich from renewable energy. In 1909 we started massive investments in hydroelectric power and in 1910 the process of getting nitrogen out of the air was invented, but it requires massive amounts of electricity. So we completely dominated the world in artificial fertilizer and still do. Then we became world leading on aluminium production, which also requires a lot of power. This is probably why, when we found oil and gas, we were able to nationalize it, because we weren't desperate for money.

  • @jeschinstad
    @jeschinstad7 ай бұрын

    The dichotomy between Norway being green and a big exporter of petroleum, is very simple; the world was dependent on oil and gas long before we found it. People have gas stoves, gas fridges, gas heating. We can ask them to move to electric, but it's a very big project. It's good for us that we can make money on petro, but it's also good that our friends don't have to suffer. The changes has to happen on the demand side.

    Well, you can get an x-tra hot version of the taco sauce here, but dunno how it compares to foreign alternatives? Personally that's the one I use and I can taste the food just fine with that. The thing is though, the more you use chili products the less sensitive to it you become, so if the Norwegian stereotype tend to be sensitive to spicy food then that's just because we don't use it enough in our food to begin with. I'm used to putting Habanero tabasco on certain food, which have more of a kick to it and make me near immune to less spicy products, thus the stronger variants of taco sauce just give me a pleasantly warm sensation and a more tingly experience that only compliment the flavor, rather than take it away. :3

    ----- - Norway isn't exactly known for being a tropical country by any means... And as such, we tend to take the piss out of ourselves for that very reason. A good example of this, there is an age old joke that goes something like this...: "An African man moved to Norway for work... After a year of living in Norway, he wrote home about his experience living in Norway. - All goes pretty well here up north. The only thing that really bothers me is the fact that they have two winters up here; One white and one green." It might not be the funniest of jokes, but it's very true from an outsider's perspective... Especially if you consider people's place of origin when they come here either for work or to stay permanently. -----

Top of the class, nobody does it better. Norway, they're great with oil. Better Norway than USA, the Canada or the Brits. You´re spot on with the "ostehøvel"! I am seriosly amazed! You might even find a "certified Norwegian" diploma in your post one of these days ;) 1905 has nothing to do with oil - that´s more a ´50´s thing. We had to change our mattresses because they started to bulge because of all the money in them... 1905 is the year we finally cut loose from the Swedes. It wasn´t a big fuzz, it was a peacefully made deal. Now, let me answer this once and for all, because I´ve seen this question and your answers lots of times before! YES, we have snow drifrs that will easily cover two or three buses in height. They do not magically appear though, they are the result of constantly trying to keep any road open during winter, and it sometimes means blowing that snow so high not even NASA will find it.

    First off; we can have Winter almost all year. I have been on a trip in the mountains in May, and it was snowing a bit, and I have heard of snow in July. The snow piles can be high, as in "Meanwhile in Norway". I haven`t experienced it, as I live on the west coast, and we have milder weather. But once it was so high that I fell through to my waist trying to get past a bus that got stuck in the snow. As for spicy sauce. Yes, mostly I hear people want the mild or medium sauce, I am a spicy lady, so I can handle it! Just not spicy sauce, chili and jalapeño on the same taco!

    Well, depends on where you are in Norway. BIG difference between northern and southern Norway. In the south where I live, we do have a reasonably long autumn, spring and summer, and a winter that's not too harsh, although the winter still is a bit too long for my liking

    The good thing about many parties and our system in terms of Democracy, is that the subsequent cabinet is more representative of the people - parties may form collab governements, and otherwise will get representatives at Stortinget according to the percentage of votes they get - even with large differences, nobody reasonable should be fully left out, as they still represent a fair amount of people. 7:59 I think thats in Japan. Believe it or not, Norway has little snow compared to many other places. The US has more, but spread out across the country, Canada has more and surprisingly, Japan has the most. We can get snow walls, but all I have seen is around 2.5, 3 meters.

    The "majority of Norway's economy" meme is absolutely wrong, btw. There's a law that says that the government can't make a budget that's financed with more than 3% oil money.

    Death metall or black metal(heavy rock) was invented in norway so i think that is waht the guitar sound in the woods meme is about

    ----- @janhaheim1348 ----- - Although yes the origin of the modern 'Black Metal' is by many believed to have started in Norway, but the debate surrounding that is still ongoing. From a different angle... The 'meme' does also hint to Norwegian myth and folklore, since there are creatures who dwell in the woods and draw in their victims in with music either through instrumental or with song. -----
