Good times! Infinite Mass in the early years was a straight copy of what was happening in the US and in later years they evolved much with doing electro/rock/pop and adding a bit of hiphop to it, they have a lot of nice songs and very few people know they are from Sweden since all the material is in English. Latin Kings and Petter where probably the most commercial succesful acts in the 2000s. Looptroop, MBMA and Organism 12 are good stuff but a bit more towards "underground" Kartellen was the first taste of gangsterrap, most of them where the real deal and today my guess is that not that many can rap about a lifestyle and also live it. The biggest what it is Thomas Rusiak, he got some bangers from around the early 2000s, they where planing to release his stuff in the US but 9/11 happend and everything went in to a halt, he said the fame was to much so it was good that he didnt become anything outside Nordic/scandinavia. Im an older soul and i have found that the new stuff coming are lacking flow, lyrics can be really bad from time to time and we see less "it factor". Globaly it's less about problems in society and a will to be better to do better, today songs are garbage and it's more important to uphold an image rather than evolving the craft itself.

Looptroop is definitely the group you should check out. They've been doing it since forever, and one of the few Swedish groups that (mostly) rap in english. But Infinite Mass did a lot of good songs too. Shoot The Racist is an absolute banger.

From someone who doesn't really listen to rap (a swede nonetheless), I have to say Petter and Timbuktu are by far the most known of the rappers in Sweden. They've reached icon-status as you might say in the US, but what we would call more like "people-loved" or just loved by the general public in Sweden. Others who reached me growing up from these are Snook, Labyrint, Latin Kings, Ison o Fille, Hov1 (never thought of them as rappers) and Einar (mostly because of his story and murder). Now I heard of more of them but also "not really". What I find interesting about rap is the poetic use of language (can be done in other genres as well) and very impressive "flow". When the rappers actually perform! I have no interest in listening to awful music about money and shooting eachother. The Slightly older artists in here were much more interesting, and the swedish language lends itself to a very interesting flow imo, if used properly. Also. Like others in the comments here mentioned, there are WAY older swedish artists who made very interesting and creative songs inspired by early rap (or maybe even completely original) that were not mentioned in the video.

No list about the history of rap in Sweden, is complete if it doesn't include "Jag diggar dig" from 1974 😁. In 1980, the song Rapture made rap genre go from obscurity to instant popularity in USA. Meanwhile in Sweden, this rap from 1974, was already an often played hit, on radio and TV, that had inspired a lot of Swedish artists to make similar music. There is *a lot* of music genres that Povel Ramel first introduced to the masses of Sweden, rap being just one of them. He was a master of bringing obscure music, from all over the world, to Sweden. Usually, he just put some funny Swedish lyrics, and better arrangements, to an already existing melody, but sometimes he made entirely new compositions. As far as I know, "Jag diggar dig" is a fully original creation by Povel Ramel, but he was bad at acknowledging the people he borrowed music from, so parts of "Jag diggar dig" might be borrowed from someone else, without attribution, if that is the case, it wouldn't be the first time he did something like that.
