If we dont have LBW(leg before wicket) rule, batsmans will kick all balls all day long, and will never get them out. Hasaranga is one of the best sri Lankan spinner. But if you want to be amazed, watch another sri Lankan Muttaia Muralidharan(highest wicket taker of all time in all 3 formats) and an australian spinner Shane warne. You wouldn't believe your eyes.

Correct sir. Batsman has the option to not hit the ball if it's not aimed at the stumps. The bowlers aim is to mainly try hit the stumps, before the lbw rule batsmen used to just stand in front the wicket with there bodies to prevent that, so with the lbw rule if the umpire can judge that the ball would have hit the wickets if the pad (or any part of the body) didn't block it. Nowadays technology is used to help the umpire in tough situations. Basically just use your bat and you'll be fine

On #2 the ball hit the top flap of the leg pad (called pad for short). This counts as the leg for the purposes of those decisions. More broadly, yes, a batter could be given out whatever part of ther body obstructs, other than the hand that holds the bat, though it's the leg or foot most of the time.

The point of having a bat, is to use it. LBW is to ensure the bowler has an option to make the batter play the ball. Note that it's still strongly in favour of the batter. If the ball bounces behind the batter or doesn't hit them 'in line' with the stumps, then it's not out. Also if there's any bat involved before hitting the batter, then it is also not out.

In Test Cricket, where you play for 5 days, there is no limit to how a side bats. You keep batting until 10 of your players are out. In the early days, batsmen would take advantage of this by covering the wickets with their pads/body not allowing the ball to pass or even play at the ball lest they touch it and get caught. This, as you can imagine made the game very boring, so they said, if it's going towards the wickets, you HAVE to play at the ball. If it hits any part of the body, you can be deemed out. The rule's been active ever since! :)

  • @carlwells9504

Back in the day the umpire would try to judge if the ball would go on to hit, often with help of side umpire to judge height. The “Hawkeye” prediction as allowed for more consistency although sometimes it will go with umpire s 1st call when the ball seems like it could go either way which always causes controversy for the sides team that is on the wrong side of the call.

There are many criteria for an LBW (leg Before Wicket) out: 1. It has to be a fair delivery, that means not a No-Ball. 2. It has to pitch (bounce) either inline with the wickets (the blue highlight) or on the off side (which the side of the bat as opposed to the leg side) or hit the batsman before pitching with same criteria. 3. It should not have hit the bat at all, before it touches any part of the batsman's body. 4. The umpire should agree that had it not hit the batsman, it would have gone on to hit the stumps. 5. The umpire can make a call on it and ask for a review (the footage review, or either side can ask to review the decision as long as they have reviews left, usually 2 per innings). 6. The ball tracking feature has the computer track the trajectory of the ball to determine if it would have hit the wickets. There are three possibilities here: i) The ball was clearly going to hit the wickets, in which case the batsman would be out and if the batting side had appealed the umpires decision, they would lose one of their reviews. ii} The ball was clearly going to miss the wickets, in which case the batsman would be not-out and if the fielding side had appealed the umpires decision, they would lose one of their reviews. iii) It is doubtful (less than half of the ball was determined to be hitting the stumps according to the computer tracking). In this case it is umpires call and whatever the umpire has originally decided before the review is what it is and neither side would lose one of their review even if they had appealed the original umpires decision.

Hey Bros love your video. In cricket, a batsman can be dismissed in a number of ways, including being bowled out, caught out, or run out. One way a batsman can be dismissed is by being given out "leg before wicket" (LBW). LBW is a dismissal that occurs when the ball would have hit the wicket if the batsman had not got in the way. The ball must be bowled in line with the stumps, and it must hit the batsman on the body without first hitting the bat. If all of these conditions are met, the umpire will rule the batsman out LBW. This is a very important rule in cricket, as it helps to prevent batsmen from simply standing in front of the stumps and blocking the ball. If the LBW rule was not in cricket, it would make it much easier for batsmen to score runs. This is because they would be able to block the ball with their bodies without fear of being given out. This would lead to more boring and defensive cricket, as batsmen would be less likely to take risks. It would also make it much harder for bowlers to get wickets, as they would have one less way to dismiss the batsman. In addition, the LBW rule helps to balance the game between batsmen and bowlers. Without it, bowlers would have a much harder time getting wickets, which would make the game less exciting. The LBW rule also helps to prevent batsmen from simply standing in front of the stumps and blocking the ball, which would make the game very boring. Keep up!

It is good to see compilations of bowler's wickets but what you don't see is what the bowler sent down before that. He/she may have bowled a couple of big leg-spinners and followed up with a ball spinning the other way or not spinning at all. Or a fast bowler might send down a ferocious bouncer to discourage a batsman from playing forward to the next delivery; the next one might be an away-swinger that takes the edge of the bat, or it could be an in-swinging 'yorker' bouncing at the batsman's feet and hitting the base of the wicket.

LBW js not debated, now a LBW call could be by its own or lack o merit, but it's a pretty basic and fair rule, its to preven people just standing there doing nothing or just kicking it away. I haven't watched or played in years but from what i remember the predicted path shown on screen isn't actually used to determine the call (may have changed by now so im unsure), the umpire has to accept the challenge for it to be out before its even shown on screen. Thats another thing LBW will not just be given to the bowling side even if it is an LBW, the bowling side have to call it out, you will see them turn to the umpire and shout "hows that" (or just make a noise 😂) and the umpire will either give it out ot not out.

2:41 It's not a debatable rule.. its more of an educational point here now. LBW - Leg before wicket - Is a necessary rule because, if not, everyone would use their legs and body to block the wicket and never get bowled out. And if people just keep blocking the balls they cant play...with their body then it just ends up being boring as hell to watch.

Hey guys, loving your content. Sorry for this essay in advance lol. First thing - the LBW rule basically stands for 'leg before wicket', back in the day, the umpire would make the call with his naked eye. It led to some shocking and controversial calls, now technology eliminates that for the most par. But you're right, while its complex, the basic fact is - you can only use the bat to stop the ball from hitting the wicket. Anything else and you risk LBW. You're getting some crazy suggestions by the community haha, there certainly better videos to watch than the ones you have so far. Here are some epic moments/matches to watch (there are literally 1000s) but here's a selection from the different formats. Test Australia Vs England 2005 (the Ashes) - It's a 5 match series, but there are plenty of documentaries made on what is called one of (if not THE) greatest series of all time Australia Vs India 2001 series ODI 2019 World Cup Final between England and New Zealand ----- Love how you're trying to learn the game, keep it going. LBW=leg before wicket. (When the ball hits a player's leg instead of hitting his or her bat, and would have hit the wicket if the leg had not stopped it, then that player is out lbw and has to stop batting.)

  • @kingspeechless1607
    @kingspeechless1607 Жыл бұрын

Without the LBW Law batsmen realised very early on that providing they had some protection for their legs they could use them as a second or even first line of defence to stop the ball hitting their wicket. As recognisable pads (leg guards) became a regular piece of equipment batsmen were able to take liberties with them. The first comprehensive lbw was codified in 1744, but there must have been local versions of it earlier than that. It changes the game entirely if batsmen can defend their wicket with complete impunity with their pads; what's the poor bowler supposed to do? Over the intervening period the LBW has been tinkered with lots of times, but it has the same purpose of saying to the batsmen "You have a bat; so use it!" If the ball makes contact with the bat before making contact with the batsman's person/pads then he or she cannot (or at least, should not) be given out under the LBW law. The reviews for LBWs and other decisions are another entirely different matter. The Laws of Cricket exist for the use of all the multi-millions of people who play cricket around the world. The games of cricket that are televised and have decision review technologies, third umpires, line decisions, etc, represent 0.00001% (or less) of all the cricket matches that are played and that's only for the last 25 years or so! BUT of course when you have the funding, and the technology available you cannot justify NOT using it in professional cricket to over-ride erroneous decisions.

You'll be wrong to call it a curve. There's two ways a ball changes direction: spin and swing. Swing is a fast bowler's weapon and is when the ball changes direction in mid-air. That can be called a curve. A spinner on the other hand makes the ball "deflect" after hitting the surface of the ground. Here we see spin. Just in case you wanted to be very technical and nitpicky. 😀

The animation of ball tracking is based on good science, there is enough data from the approach of the ball (even the curve) to when it hits the leg for the computer to compute the rest of the balls path. No-one ever contests the animation because it would not be logical to argue against the data, the balls path is recorded fed into the computer and the prediction is made, no argument. Sometimes the umpire has to reverse his decision because ball tracking has shown that the ball would not have hit the wickets, again no argument because the data is good and thus the result is good.

LBW or Leg Before hitting the Wicket is very very important otherwise batters would just keep blocking the good deliveries with their legs. Taking wickets would be difficult and tiresome. The game is already very biased towards batters. However, to even out the Leg Before Wicket type out, there is a law which roughly says that you CAN NOT dismiss them if you bowl from the opposite side of a batter. Meaning, if a batter is RIGHT handed, then you cannot dismiss him if you pitch from the LEFT side of his vision, and the ball should not bounce on the LEFT side of his batting stance.

your wrong on the 2nd from last it hit his back leg pad not his arm also 8 out of 10 lbw calls would be going on to miss the DRS is there to call out an umpire's mistake if an umpire says your out you the batsman have 15 seconds to have it reviewed. then the tv umpire will look to see if the ball had hit the bat or not then he will look to see if the ball pitched inline hit him inline and going on to hit the stumps by 51% of the ball or less. if the ball was missing the stumps completely the on field umpire must change his call from out to in

Hasaranga is a fine bowler, much loved by Sri Lankan fans, but he does not stand at the top as spin bowlers go. Look at an earlier countryman of his; Muttiah Muralithuran, top class spin bowler who has taken more wickets in Test cricket (800) than any other bowler in history.

cricket is about bat & ball. If batsman try to cover the wicket that's only 9 inches wide & 28 inches tall with all he got other than d bat the bowlers attempt is a waste of time right?

2:38 LBW is not debatable, it's a legitimate way of getting a Batsman Out. Only thing that's debatable is that sometimes the Ball may slightly edge the Bat before it hits the pad which makes the Ball ineligible for LBW, so if the 3rd Umpire (TV Umpire) or the On Field Umpire still gives him Out then that creates controversy over decision. If they simply say the Ball didn't actually hit the Stumps, then any Batsman who doesn't want to get Out but is unable to play a certain Bowler will simply start blocking all of his Deliveries with his leg & there's no progress from that point. 3:58 You guys are really observant I've noticed. You're basically dissecting the Googly & comparing the wrist position here with that of his Leg Spin which is impressive as a Cricket fan. 5:32 I'm seriously liking you guys. You basically said what I say that "the sound of a Ball hitting the Stumps is like music" Ìi̊Í & I especially love the sound when the Stumps get uprooted, gets knocked off & goes flying. Although an old saying is about "the sound of leather on willow", leather being the Ball & willow being the Bat. 6:53 You're right in your observation. 7:16 Perfectly on point. 8:19 Kids are always mad when they're given Out no matter if the decision is right or wrong.

Please don't say "I see how he's THROWING it." Bowlers don't like suggestions that they are throwing. If you had said that to me in my playing days I would have been very cross; later I would have been asking myself "I wasn't throwing it, was I?" Bowlers are not allowed to throw the ball; they are illegal deliveries. A basic definition of a throw is swinging a bent arm that straightens at the end to impart 'power'; get any sort of ball and try it, you will see that is what happens! Obviously, you can do that as a fielder, but not as a bowler. You can bowl with a straight arm that stays straight, or, with a bent arm that stays bent; it's actually more nuanced than that these days, but that is the modern age for you!
