Kristiansand is the best city in Norway to live in. I am born and raised here. Kristiansand zoo and amusement park is the largest zoo and amusement park in all of Scandinavia. We also have the largest beach and music festival probably in the world. We also have the most beautiful archipelago in Norway. And we also have the best ice cream in Norway. From Kristiansand it's also a short ferry ride to Denmark. 3 hours and 15 minutes with the large ferry and 2 hours and 15 minutes with the high speed catamaran. The red one in the video. We also have s cruise ferry to Eemshaven in the Netherlands. You would love it here.

This is kinda spooky. I've watched a few of your reactions to Norway over the last days and thought it would be interesting to see you learn more about Kristiansand. I live up north with my family and we've been to Kristiansand 4 times the last 8 years, mostly for the kids (and us) to visit the zoo/theme park. The park includes a lot of characters and stories that are very dear to us so while I'm reluctant to compare to the Disney parks I kinda feel I have to. The actors and staff are also very professional and the Zoo even have their own TV show where you really get the impression they actually care for the animals (Dyrepasserne/The Zookeepers).

I couldn't agree more. Kristiansand Zoo is a wonderful park which takes well care of the animals. I see why you would compare it to Disney. Today we have Cardamom Town/Kardemomme By and Huckybucky Forest/Hakkebakkeskogen, but we also used to have Skomakergata/Cobbler street for Christmas. That TV Show is old school, so they have modernized, which is perfectly fine. On hot summer days you can go swimming on Summer Island/Sommerøya, and also use the water slides. Kaptein Sabeltann is an institution. We went for the show many years ago, it was really entertaining.

@@ahkkariq7406 I worked there this summer and it was great. There's just such a good energy wherever you are in the park. They're also in the process of building out more cabins in "Juliusskogen" now, and all the responses have been good so far. Overall just a great place to spend time! (though it's a bit pricey, 500-700kr, but you save 50kr per ticket online)

@@trygveevensen171 Sure. It's a bit expensive. It might be a good alternative to buy a two days ticket, then you get the chanse to explore more, and the price for each day will be lower. People living not too far from the park often buy season cards for the summer.

@@ahkkariq7406 Absolutely, two or three days are a must in my opinion, especially when it's only 150k extra per day. But you can always just buy a regular ticket and upgrade it on your way out for no extra charge. The water park for 150kr extra is not a bad deal either

The south coast of Norway is so underrated. There are so many cozy white wooden villages on small islands and along the coast.

@@cheesedemon88 Bible belt problems. My Kristiandsandian gf's grandmother spit at me because I was not christian at the baptism of my gf's cousin's child. The parents invited me, so I was horrified. It took 3 years to get along with her, but I honestly believe she was stuck in the 18th century. It's so crazy how iinsane everything is beneath a thin layer of normallity, and how important religious beliefes are in certain areas. Anyways, I'm sure most people would appreciate the nature, climate, and general slow pace of life on the south coast of Norway during summer. And it goes for the entire Oslo fjord as well.

But yeah, Kristiansand kinda has that vacation town thing going, people come here to part at the summer festivals or experience hytteliv, and everyone’s cool on the surface, but you won’t know about the unpleasant culture unless you live here.

I was born and raised in Kristiansand and the last 40 years the city has improved a lot. In my youth it was a rather boring city except during the summertime. The hole summer we spent on the boat and in cabins/houses on one of the hundreds of islands. Now Kristiansand is fun the hole year around. Lots of activities, restaurants, cafes and terraces. Love it!

There is a relative of mine who was in Kristiansand. He was a pirate and met Napoleon.

You're now at the sun coast. Kristiansand, Lillesand, Grimstad and Arendal. The place in Norway with most hours of sun and the best climate. its all about boats, sea, fun and summer.

In Norway, with the exception of Oslo and maybe Bergen, all “cities“ are actually towns or villages of different sizes.

My city comes alive in the summer. The beaches and streets buzzes with locals and tourists. Boats from all over the world finds their harbour. Most Norwegians have cabins, many here on the coast where the temperature is the warmest in Norway reaching 30 degrees celsius considered extremly hot in Norway. The thousands of tiny islands is reachable by boats and kids roam freely around. The nights are light in june and water temperature can be as high as 27 celsius and water crystal clear. Students take over when universitie starts in late august. The mild climate at the coast due to the gulf stream from the caribean makes for nice autumn and winter temperature but skiing is only couple of hours driving into the montains where many also have cabins or rent hotel rooms. Nature have a big role in our lifestyle with sparesly populated lands and wast woods and montains free for everybody to explore. No private landowners can fence in nature. Allemannsretten is a right for anybody to enjoy all of nature everywhere in Norway

I live in Kristiansand, it's a great city. Lots of people whom are really nice, the zoo/amusement park is also the largest I believe in Norway :D

Just a suggestion Tyler: you might want to spend a little more time looking at Norwegian words and names. Their association with many English words is pretty easy to spot. I don't speak ANY Norwegian but I'd be willing to be that "Fiskbrygge" can be translated as "Fish Bridge" (or possibly "Fish Brook" - like I said - I don't speak any Norwegian. I just look at the words and think about them.) Likewise, the word "kvadraturen". In many of the Germanic and Norse languages the English combination "qu" is written and/or pronounced as "kv". So, "Kvadraturen" could be translated (somewhat obscurely) into English as "quadrature" - the practice of breaking something up into squares or rectangles. Precisely what was done with the city planning. Also please note, this was NOT inititated by King Kristian IV in 1941. It was in 1641. [Edit: after going to Google Translate, I learned that "brygge" means pier, wharf, jetty. In other words, Fiskbrygge is the equivalent of what in many English-speaking countries would be called "Fisherman's wharf".]

Norway has a lot of small cities in the south and southeast, very beautiful and popular in the summer:)

The airport is 20 minutes by car from downtown. Kristiansand is 3 hours and 30 minutes by car south of Oslo. The people here are very friendly. Our way of life here is very relaxed and laid back. No rush with anything. We have the best female handball team in the world here to.

My hometown!! It's very nice to live here, and I've been told it's nice to visit as well 😁 the big cruise ship ferry you saw was probably on its way to Denmark, as you can take a boat there across the north sea. The population has been going up and down, but last I heard we were at 80.000 inhabitants. It probably depends on what you count as a part of Kristiansand though. Kristiansand is also home to the biggest shopping mall in Scandinavia, maybe even the Nordics, Sørlandssenteret (South Land Mall)!

After all these Norway videos, you have to come here and check it out for yourself. 🙂

You would normally take that to Denmark, have about 8 to 12 hours in land, then take the boat back the same day, if all you cared about was some very minor sightseeing and major shopping - otherwise known as the Harry Trip. 07:25 We have a very diverse selection of restaurants in Norway, one can find Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Turkish, Libanese, American, Thai, Viatnemese, Maroccan, Indish, and a lot more. Most common ones I would say are the Chinese, American, and Japanese.

I don't remember all of it, but when the small white houses appeared in the video, I got so happy since I knew I've seen them somewhere before :D I had to google it now, and in Swedish the book is called "Folk och rövare i Kamomilla stad".

Awesome reaction video, as usual, It seems you became more Norwegian in every video. Lovely City. Our family has been to Kristiansand Zoo (or Hunderfossen) almost every second year with the kids. It's for us like Disney World is for you in the USA or Lego land for Danes. Well, it's not as internationally famous as LEGO and Disney, but very famous and popular in Norway. Kristiansand has been the number-one summer target in Norway for Norwegian families for decades. But the number one target is still Syden😅.

@@countryball4276 Good choice. Overall, the cabin and camping trips with cars or boats are coming before Tusenfryd. Kristiansand is probably the most popular target for all categories above here in Norway, but there are a lot of attractions here. In recent years (Covid), many have started exploring Northern Norway. But we still love to travel outside of Norway and not only to syden. We travel all over the world. Asia has been very popular in the last two decades. Thailand is probably the new syden, but I'll believe south Europe, together with Turkey and Egypt (both as part of syden), is still target number one abroad. We have a minimum of three consecutive weeks of summer vacation in Norway. Tusenfryd is done on a weekend or a day. That said, even when Kristiansand is the primary goal, it's often a part of many targets. People stay mostly from a weekend up to a week only. Then we have two weeks left. Some do a mix of everything. We are traveling both abroad and in Norway on vacation. Especially the cabins need some care 🤭 Well, you know. The explanation was for the foreigners.

I grew up in/near Kristiansand, so it was fun to see someone not Norwegian talk about it! Other things to do in Kristiansand: visit the Kristiansand Cannon Museum where you can actually go inside a huge cannon (and a casemate, and a lot of bunkers), visit Sørlandssenteret (the largest shopping center in the Nordic region), go for walks in some of the forests nearby (I really love Baneheia even though there was a brutal double murder there), visit the botanical gardens (and the museum next to it), Kristiansand Museum that has a bunch of old buildings you can visit, and a lot more. And the zoo is really big and cool, much bigger than what they showed in the video.

Can`t belive you did my hometown :D You did very good on the norwegian words, it`s not easy I know. It`s actally the 6th largest city i Norway, w/ 113 737 inhabitants per 1. januar 2022. A very family friendly town, and we call it the Palm Coast b/c of the summer temperature - they put out a cuple of palm trees when warm enough. PS A cold pool ...we call it the ice bath - it`s for a quick dip, not for swimming hehe.

I used to live in Kristiansand, but then again...I have lived almost all over Norway. :D But Kristiansand is a realy nice place. :)

Tyle Walker, If you want to check out Norwegian beaches, in both number and size, you should explore the beaches at Jæren. Jæren are an area in Rogaland county in south-west Norway. There they have the largest and most beautiful beaches in Scandinavian. The names of two of the many many beaches are Orrestranden (5km long) and Borestranden.

Hi:) Since Kristansand, lices in the south of Norway i has usely a bit colder sommer, because the tempratur is effected by being so close to the ocean and therefor cools the air tempratur, but on the opsite side it is also making the winter warmer. Compared to Oslo for exsample Kristiansand is colder in avrege in the summer but wamer in the winter. Just a little side note, since boats are in the blood of the people of the south you almost can`t call your self a true "sørlending" which is a term to descbribe the people who live in the south if you dont have a boat. WE LOVE BOATS!:) The cold water pool is perfect to restor your worn down muscles after a solid workout:)

The fact that they choose probably the most grey cloudy day to film on made me laugh troughout the entire video.

Lots of famous artists have had concerts there alone or part of festival. Elton John and Andrea Bocelli had Beach concerts. People are laidback there and very religious. Popular turist attraction in the summer. The zoo is visited by ca 1 mill a year. Not bad with 5,4 mill inhabitans in Norway. Zoo got 4 new lion cubs there recently.

I love Kristiansand mostly because of the zoo, it's quite fun to look at the wolves there :)

I live there, and i think norwegians tend to connect it with the sea, boats, summer, dyreparken, and christians. Also, they didn't mention it in the video, but kristiansand also has "sørlandssenteret", one of the largest shopping malls by size in all of scandinavia.

Mexican food is actually very popular here, it is even said on tv commercials that friday is the day everyone here eat Mexican food like Taco or Burritos just like i did last friday :) We call it "Taco Fredag" or "Taco Friday" in English.

Kristiansand is jumping around a bit on the population ranking. I think there are a couple of cities that are fairly close in population. The name is Kristiansand comes from Kristian (the danish king Christian IV who established the city back when) and Sand (because it was all sand... There is still a lot of sand under the city center.). Edit: Addition I guess the Christian part was covered. It didn't mention that the McDonals used to be a Bank before it were repurposed (The front pictured there is used as a side entrance. The main entrance is slightly right of the picture). This might be more of a tidbit, than a reason to visit Kristiansand though. :D

Kristiansand is nice. I'm from Arendal which is located 40 miles east towards Oslo. All the southeren coast cities is known as summer cities as people from Oslo and easter part of Norway is have their vacation down here as life is slower and we tend to have nice weather during summer. The whole southeren part is known as Sørlandet, or directly translated land of south. You have talked about cabins, most people tend to own a boat, the other half a cabin. There rest owning a caravan instead of cabin. Myself I have never been fond of water or boats, and I would rather own a cabin if I could afford one.

Words which start with either "Ki" "Kj" or "Sj" are pronounced like "Sh" similar to words like Sherwood or Shanghai.

Kristiansand also has alot of festivals and events and sanctioned streetarts and progressive social things for the inhabitants.. like public gardens and public workshops ect.

Untill now you have just been sightseing the southern part of Norway, You should get oriented on the map of Norway to see the big distanses in our country, and how much beautiful land there is north of Trondheim too. In the southern part of northern Norway you will cross the arctic circle, that is why the north is the land of the midnight sun, for two summer months the sun will never set. and at mid winter there will be no sun over the horizon at all for two months. The northern light (aurora borealis) you kan see from september to april, the rest of the year you can not see aurora cos of the midnight sun. Up North you will meet reindeer near and on the the road, and there also is a lot of beautiful beaches, but the water is, you know, a little cold.

Should have shown Fiskebrygga when there is party and so many boats you can barely see the water in the canal =)

As Norwegians drink more coffee than anyone else in the world, we are in general very picky on the coffee. There isnt a big enough market in Norway for starbucks. We only have them at airports if im not mistaken

Going for the smaler places now :-)) The ferry is a fast one and takes you to denmark in like 4 hours!

Greetings from Kristiansand ! The Summer is great here, if it's good weather. It's part of the biblebelt, so alot of christians here. Norway coast has alot of rocky coast, not sandy beaches. It's nice here, but don't look any different from anybody else, or people will stare at you....! Don't talk to strangers, they might not talk back to you. Alot of cruise tourists flod the city center in Summer, but the purchase prices including food are out of this world.

Probably some1 already help u with this but i cant be bothered to check all 119 comments :P The cold water at the aquarama is for use after sauna for cooling down. Also a great test of how resilient you are to the cold :) It is said to increase the immune-system. One of the offputting things about the city is the dialect of the locals. Its quite a bit too much for many.

Most Norwegians have cabin near the coast. And they very often have their own beach.

We visit Kristiansand every year on our sailing trips. The kids love being there. As an old coastal artillerist I will soon have to pay Batterie Vara at Møvik Fortress a visit. One out of four huge nazi artillery guns is still in place with its 32 cm (~one foot) caliber, 20 m long, 110 ton barrel. Firing range ~55 km

You pronounce it "kree stee aand saand" with the "a" sound being like when you say "aaah..." like you just understood something That's the best I can do 😅

Coastal areas are too warm in wintertime. There is much more snow behind the mountains where it's colder.

When you do "sauna" you heat up in the chamber and afterward jump in a pool with cold water to bring your body's temperature to normal.

This was not Kristiansand, this was Kvadraturen only. Thy missed the canon museum, that has an outside naval canon. The parks, we have a lot of parks. The Forrest Baneheia. And lots more.

I live 1 hour away from KRS, and this video weatherwise was not really representative of the City. KRS is the city with most sunny days in Norway. Very pleasant place.

In my city in Norway we've got 47 beaches including 2 "blue flag" beaches

Not really Nordland has a few white beaches, but only a few are known to the public or to tourists, which means more for us.

Funny how you not have * in your'e alphabet, but when saying Kristiansand, the letter you have wrong is the A, saying it like Æ - how Æ sounds. KristiandsAnd. Gotta say the A in Kristiandsand, like you say A in star = stAr kristiansAnd. This park is more popular, and also much bigger i think, then Tusenfryd. And pirate...Kpt.Sabeltann = Captain Sabertooth is a big deal, or at least when i grew up. His lots of my generations big child-hero!!

The Norwegian Y is pronounced more like the Y in Syrup, thought I'd mention it even though it's not that important, ha ha.

Look for Mandal the most Southest City in Norway with interesting history of pirates and second world war. The true Summer City.

This in the heart of norways bible belt. Its a quit sleapy and boring town, but popular in the summertime with families. If you want good restaurants, nightlife or things to do, its better to choose Oslo, Stavanger, Trondheim or Bergen.

In order to learn more about norweigen culture, landscape and mindset, you should watch episodes of "Hvor ingen skulle tru, nokon ku bu" (Were nobody would belive, anyone could live"), a norweigen tv-show about WERY remote homesteds, farms ect. I was born i Tromsø becaus my Dad and almost his hold family livs ther. My dad has 9 siblings and every one eksept 1 has kids and gran kids. But I grow up in Søgne how is now a part of Kristiansand. My mom and her family is From Søgne and is wer I live now. Kristiansand is best to visit at the summer, sins Kristiansand is so southof Norway we dont get alot of snow her, most we get slush snow thats way most people hav cabin in the Mountains to get the filing of winter. not everyone has a cabin as it is very expensive and not everyone has the finances for it.

Can you react to the city Tromso in Norway

King Christian 4th named the City in 1641. Lots of sand there, hence the name.

Yeah, Lillesand is older though, and the old name was "Sanden".
