    So glad you got around to Kano. He's up there with the best. Him and ghetts are unrivalled in my opinion. Edit : seeing you say you're ready to slate him at the start if he's whack and us English people knowing what's about to come is brilliant 😂😂😂😂 Also,grime started as an underground,gritty type of music. The beats were dirty and "grimey" . You need to check out wiley,he's the originator of it all. Beats like Fire hydrant and I'm a sinner. That's grime and kano started out as a grime artist,he clashed wiley when he was 17 and probably won tbh. There's a lot of history to grime but real grime doesn't really exist any more,not like it used to

    You’re gonna get a lot of comments trying to help you understand the things that define grime and how it is separate to rap. They’ll all be slightly different because it is subjective and there’s not 1 accepted answer. I will have a go: Grime beats are distinctive. Usually 140 beats per minute but a song with a different tempo could still be grime if it sounds like grime. Dark beats, signature electronic sounds, fast tempo. The flows are distinctive. The 140bmp instrumentals provide a unique challenge and create unique flows with rappers existing within the pockets and rhyming on the off-beats. Think of ghetts here. Radio sets are very important in the history of the grime genre, and the development of our MCs. Our top grime MCs have build their skills upon hours of radio sets. DJs will mix through lots of grime instrumentals and the MCs have to improvise in the cypher. They spit their bars over whatever beat is played and compete against their peers for a wheel up/reload. These skills are unique to grime and create artists like chip. Chip is extremely versatile and can rap in any situation. He can battle face to face, he can make al types of rap songs and projects too. Americans don’t have the same radio rap culture. If you want to see grime radio sets, try rinse FM’s grime show as a starting point

    Grime typically sits at 140bpm, whereas rap/hip-hop is at around the 90bpm mark. That's where the beats differ. Obviously as you listen to more and more grime you would pick up on certain nuances. This what you're reacting to here would be rap. However the song you mentioned with Dave and Stormzy (clash) is actually a grime song.

  • @londonnftcollector9514

    @londonnftcollector9514

    Yup correct, grime won’t go no less then 120bpm(beats per minute) but averagely sits at 140 and above, you have to check out the early grime to really understand true grime, grime today is so commercialised it almost sounds like other genres

  • @taoi

    2 жыл бұрын

    Clash is for sure drill, but UK drill has that grime influence, sometimes bigger sometimes smaller, because ofc it does. It's mostly on the beats but sometimes you hear it in the flow. Internationally, drill scenes have that grime DNA too because of UK export and now even US drill (especially Brooklyn) is bringing it in, they're all chatting over UK producers. The Woo? Welcome to the Party? 808Melo, UK producer, same guy did Headie's Know Better before

  • @ProductOfAnEmpire

    @ProductOfAnEmpire

    Modern UK Drill songs are pretty much GRIME now, it no longer has the original sonics of Chicago Drill like Cheef Keef and King Louie... UK Drill has OUR unique sound now, at 140bpm... and as soon as you touch around 140bpm you're in GRIME territory... I would put Dave & Stormzy - Clash as GRIME... like I would put a lot of modern Drill songs as GRIME too... for instance... M1llionz - B1llions is essentially Ruff Sqwad - Be Together, listen to them back to back. We should be proud of our own culture and sonics and not cat the names of genre's from other countries.

    @@sr81 yeah Miz is top tier as well tbh, there’s a lot of other artists with potential but they won’t reach it if they keep making the same repetitive or gimmicky sound

    a artist called wiley invented the term 'Grime', Wiley began producing Grime music in 2002 and created 'Eskibeat', which is widely considered as the first ever Grime song. Previous to this moment, the genre was roughly seen as style of Garage music. wiley is also know as the godfather of Grime as he was the first to do it.

    He was a fairly generic garage MC in PAYG Crew but the Eskimo & Igloo beats were so different & when other MCs started using them on the pirates it basically created grime. But then Davinche, Terrah Danjah, Wonder etc. did it differently again...😮

    I chuckled at the when I'm 40 bit...I'm 42 & was in the UK hip hop scene since I was 18. Roots Manuva, Blak Twang, Taskforce, London Posse, Skinnyman, Jehst & this was only just before Kano dropped P's & Q's and Dizzee dropped I Luv U. That was over 20 years ago 15:07 15:07 15:07 😂 British rap has been smashing it, just now people are paying attention!

    Aaaand i just finished! I knew you would love this one. He one of the real OGs. Biggest difference between grime and rab would be BPM. Grime around 140, rap around 80-90 give or take. Kano started on grime but has done rap tunes. As have a lot of his peers. "How we living" would be one of his rap tunes where as "P's and Q's" would be a more traditional grime joint. Loving the reactions! Keep it up!

    Great reaction bro & the story behind is,is that Ghetts and Wretch have done a couple of fire in the booths and they’ve also pestered Kano to do one & why he said that in the end.So the Fire in the booth with Avelino was declared the best fire in the booth,before Kano done this & also if he check out THE MOVEMENT fire in the booth is the best which has Ghetts,Wretch,Scorcher & Mercs in it.For your free time check out the Lord of the Mics battle rap with Wiley and Kano,they were like teenagers and just spitting bars on a stairway 🔥🔥🔥🔥

    The difference between rap and grime is history and origin So US rap was born out of jazz and grime came out of jungle and uk garage which has huge Carribbean influence in its roots from the windrush generation. But it's sort of like convergent evolution how on both sides of the pond we arrived at fire bars independently

    If you want to see the difference between grime and rap check out RA - Daily Duppy (the most recent one), he does a rap verse first and then brings back some of his old grime lyrics over classic grime beats for the second part. Just to add to it he also has plenty of Drill tracks so an artist that can do all 3. Keep up the fire reactions my guy. You should also check out Kano - Teardrops (I personally like the performance from Rated Awards 2020).

    east london started the grime genre legends like ghetto(Forest gate E7), D-Double E(Forest gate E7), kano(canning town/east ham E6/E16), footsie(forest gate E7 i think), wiley(bow E3), crazy Titch(Plaistow E13), dizzie rascal(Bow E3), lethal B(walthamstow E17) etc all grew up like a few mins bus/train ride from each other and they all from east wretch 32, chip, skepta, JME, Jammer ETC are from north london(mainly tottenham) most early grime artists are from east or north london. not too sure what the grime scene was like in south but ik they were making music back in the 90’s and prior. south became a lot more prominent in the road rap scene(2006-2012) then they pioneered the uk drill scene in 2012 if anyone can find music from U-channel that be lit
