LOL! Funny enough, I did the same with Avatar... but about 20 minutes into the film, I started freaking out on the blue guys because they looked too damn digital to me (hard to explain)... So... I grabbed my remote and switched the TV's input source from DVD to Cable, and wouldn't you know it, Blazing Saddles had just started, and my mood did a complete 180°... and that went down as one of the best trips I had ever had!
Today's the 40th anniversary of this movie!

@@mrfivegold Eh, hes more the guy who can expertly convey the history and the mood and the grit etc of NEW YORK CITY rather than the entire USA.
This story is quite riveting, more so than live action dramas. I'm amazed that the filmmakers were able to license all this great music from classic big band to 80's punk rock.

There wasn't any 80s Punk in this, just one Sex Pistols songs from '77. Anyway, most of the music in this film is from BEFORE the '50s & '60s, which is actually INCREDIBLY cheap and often already in the public domain & therefore free to use. Especially the music from the early part of the movie thats set before & during WWI.

Hands down one of the greatest films ever made. Top ten for film trailers in my opinion.
Today is the day I keep finding movies I thought I had dreamed of but didn't. I have had this movie stuck in my head for years, and every time I described what I vividly remembered from this film, no one knew wtf I was talking about. And man today, by happenstance, I was researching info on the Fire and Ice, and it lead me to finally FINALLY finding the name of this film that has haunted me for years haha.
Ralph Bakshi is the master of adult animation.
One of the best animated films of all time. Probably one of the most important.

One of the Greatest Movies Ever Made
The film was truly masterful. I was very impressed and most films don't usually impress me that often. The epic story of four generations of entertainers throughout the history of American music. Goddamn brilliant storytelling if I ever saw it. But it would have been nice to see the main characters play songs that were more original but fit with the genres of music. That way the story would feel more authentic than just them giving us another artist's music. Also the ending would have been way better if Pete had a dream sequence. After the concert, Pete dreams of the generations of family members that came before him. Starting with his parents, grandparents, great grandparents and ending with his great great grandparents in Russia. Hearing their praise and seeing their journey. Then in that moment Pete awakens and stairs out on the horizon. He finally understands who he is and what it means for him to have the opportunity for the success he has. That his family was always the driving force in his life without him ever knowing anything about them or their story. That to me would have brought the story full circle and been the perfect ending to such a phenomenal story.
I watched this over two decades ago... My husband and I were listening to various music of the decades, and this movie popped into my head. We're planning on buying the movie, especially if it's available on DVD.

The only problem with this movie is that it's too short. I wish this could've been a four hour long epic.

First time I heard Night Moves by Seger. Great movie
And it is really a darn shame, that, this amazing animated film from Ralph Bakshi has never got its own DVD and Blu-Ray Disc in the UK 🇬🇧 And its about time to have American Pop to be released in the UK physical releases for the first time ever for more than four decades... So please Sony Pictures UK or Elevation Sales UK, release American Pop on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc in the UK

It has that element in it. But it is a bit more complicated at times. The storylines deal more with the everyday lives of people. What do I want to be, what have I become and what is the point of any of this. Quite simply never be trapped by one profession in life, guard your beliefs and never let yourself be manipulated by anyone else and build a life that brings you joy. That is all I can grasp so far, never quit at life. If for no other reason don't give the cocksuckers the satisfaction in knowing that they beat you down forever. They do not and will never deserve that victory ever.
The Fifth Element brought me here.
Anyone else but me hear about this movie from the Fifth Element as a kid? I was like 4 Years old in 99’.
It's a very interesting movie. The storyline isn't to detailed, but tells a story. It's not that adult, but even if it's scenes that are absolutely not for kids is cut out, then it takes away meaning to adult viewers- It's absolutely, in that way really not for children, because it's best unedited and is too smart for children away.

The last song should’ve been “Rock ‘n Roll Never Forgets” instead of “Blue Suede Shoes”.
This trailer inexplicably played at the drive-in in 2006 before talladega nights, a movie I saw twice at that drive in in one week. I remember feeling very uneasy by the rotoscope aesthetic. I think the part at the beginning was the first time I saw a guy grabbing a woman's ass and I wondered why someone would want to do that. Glad I found this trailer because now I can see that I don't have any desire to see the film itself.

Kinda of a misleading trailer since in the plot Since Pete did show up till the last bit of the movie
When the guy from CSI and Monkey D Ruffy met:
It's actually not modern animation; it's old school rotoscoping. But okay, where's the sequel? The spoiler-alert trailer tells us Pete finally makes it, but does he stay there? Somehow I don't see him spawning subsequent generations, especially since this movie ends at the cusp of AIDS.
