'American Idol' Winner Just Sam Back To Singing In Subways For Money

Former "American Idol" winner Samantha "Just Sam" Diaz is back performing in New York City subways. Last month, the 24-year-old began sharing videos to her Instagram singing in subway stations and opened up about her journey since winning the hit competition series. "Back in 2021, I was super embarrassed to be going back to the trains. I didn't want people to know that I legit needed the money & I didn't want people to know that it wasn't optional. I was disappointed in myself for allowing myself to fall so low after winning Idol, but then I had to take it easy on me and remember that I started my journey with Idol at 20 years old. Not even knowing anything about Hollywood or the music industry. Since then, I have learned so much and I've been able to take my experiences and share them with other artists in hopes that they don't experience the same things that I did when it comes to making it in this life," she explained. "Just Sam" won Season 18 of the singing competition in 2020.

I send her love. She is already doing amazing things by being her. People think you have to make it in the industry, but when you're intune with yourself. You see that you already won by choosing yourself and knowing your guiding yourself. Her choice and her decision. I respect and have nothing but love for her. It takes a lot to put yourself out there in the way she is also. Thats a blessing and beautiful in itself. Gooooo Sam!!!!!
Her story ain't over yet. This is just a bump in the road. There's sunny days and there's cloudy days. Only a matter of time before the sun shines on Just Sam again! Hang tough girl! Keep the faith that Life will get better.

That’s not how the music industry works 😢
She paid all the money she won to the record label so they can release her because she wasn’t going to own any of her songs. That’s when it all went down hill. I’m just surprised by the facts that no one has reached out to help her. Especially the judges. It’s not their jobs but Lionel was really big on her and I’d think he would reach out to help her out

I believe what happened with her is that #1- she didn't fit the definition of what a star is and #2 she probably refused to submit to who and what they wanted her to become.... I saw her in the subway sometime ago and was literally shocked but not surprised,this entertainment industry is no joke you get got if you don't know who you are and what to stand for... She might not be that bright star in society standard but her talent is her talent and the industry cannot take that from her;she looked quite happy in the subway i must admit....

American idol and Hollywood in general don't give a damn about people. I auditioned for American idol in 2013 and made it 3 rounds that was back when I believed in the music industry and that they care about talent. Now I see it was a waste of time
