I've been waiting all day for this after seeing you with Denali. If you are an adult, which doll would you recommend to start with. I love these dolls. I don't care if I'm 59. I just love them. I never had dolls when I was younger. We just never had the income for it. So, I'm not going to let my age stop me if I want to start buying and collecting them. I also was the person who asked what dolls to buy my 10 year old twin girls. I'd love your help with both questions. So happy you did this video and what a job to have! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kimberly! Thank you for watching! I hope you enjoy this video!! I would tell you to buy the doll you connect with the most. I feel the same way about fashion! Maybe you like a doll based on her looks, or maybe you like her for her story! Your age probably lines up best with Julie! Julie's story takes place in 1974 and she is 9 or 10 in the story!! Her story is set in San Francisco! She's a great character! I'm loving Maryellen right now and I'll always love the classics who I feature today! I know hundreds and hundreds of adult collectors! Go for it!

I would buy what you love. Girl of the year is always collectible. This year is particularly good because it’s the first doll of a new face mold. I am not the expert this lady is, but I have been collecting for fifteen years and have bought dolls for two granddaughters who aged out of dolls and left me facing the fact that I am a adult collector. I’’m 72 years old but I love dolls! I have even started collecting some Our Generation dolls. They have a new face mold which I love. BTY The Joss doll has a different face mold. She was Girl Of The Year foe 2020. She must be about sold out by now. If you are collecting for appreciation start with Joss, then get the current Girl of the year. For the twins, they are old enough to have any doll, just remember, if they brush the hair, use a wig brush and a water spray bottle and NEVER BRUSH THE HAIE OF A DOLL WITH CURLY HAIR!!!! Happy collecting! I wish I could follow your progress.

as a 22yr old who got into dolls as a kid and became a collector in their teens, i promise u dont ever have to "grow out" of dolls. i use my monster high dolls as decor for my apartment, and literally every time someone comes over they tell me how much they like that because it just feels so nice and happy to have dolls and plushies smiling at u! even my mom makes a comment about how nice it is that i have dolls and toys decorating the place any time she visits!

I loved this vid! I had Kirsten as a kid and a couple of years later I got an “American Girl Of Today” and these were such a huge part of my childhood! So many of my friends had different dolls, and we’d go to little American girl meetups at the library. I’ve been wanting to start collecting them again now in my 30’s. This was so nostalgic!!

Hi Lori! I’m from Wisconsin and started with a Bitty Baby for my daughters 3rd Christmas in 1997. Also attended many warehouse sales in Middleton back in the day. These sales were incredible! I was able to expand my daughters collection into 5 more 18” dolls, plus so many accessories. The pricing was phenomenal. I always said the moms love the dolls 1st and then pass their love onto their daughters. I could chat here forever about all the fun we all had. My daughter is 25 now and expecting her 1st baby any day! She’ll be able to pass her collection onto her daughter one day. Love your videos and would love to see more about American Girl. Thank you for sharing a part of your heart!

OMG Lori! I LOVE YOU! You truly are an American Girl! They’re ALL your favorites. Thank you for this inspiring video. I’m 61 and want find my own doll! Since you asked what we like/want, my absolute favorite video was your Marie Kondo where you did your room. That totally inspired me. This inspired me to once again find something I love. I live alone and can do what I want! I just was blessed with my SEVENTH GRANDSON yesterday! My baby has a baby. He and his wife are on Germany (Army). My daughter hopes to have the first girl. The fun thing is, my little boys love playing here with my vintage tea sets and dishes. They will enjoy dolls! Thank you, Lori, for being YOU!

Omg. Lori .. I have been watching you on You Tube, IG and listening to your podcast ... and I just put two and two together. You helped me once with my daughter Allison who is now 15 at the AG store. And I remember it like yesterday!! Bitty Twin blonde was her first doll at 4 “Sarah”. But Chrissa was her first full size doll. Then Lanie, Rebecca, McKenna. Tons of wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing and I cannot wait to show Allison your collection!! 💖

Hi I love your videos on American girl. I have just subscribed and started watching your channel. I grew up in the 90's and one of my most memorable Christmas' was when I received the Molly Mcintire doll. I also was into the books, and got some at the library. My parents said they couldn't afford to get me the outfits or accessories for Molly. I only ever got the doll for Christmas, and was disappointed because my friends at the time got Felicity, and Kirsten and all the accessories for them. I later chipped in $50 to get my grandma the Samantha Parkington doll, and it was one of her treasured dolls. She collected dolls and bears as an adult and played with them and restored old dolls and bears. I still love dolls and I think it's because of her. Because I wasn't able to get the accessories for Molly, my grandma got the patterns and made some of Molly's outfits and sets. She made the pjs, the raincoat and goulashes, and some other clothing. I never got the Molly's Christmas outfit, the victory outfit or the camp set. I really wanted them, and now it appears that they are retired. I also babysat two girls from a wealthy family, and they had a Truly me doll, the Samantha, and the Molly and lots of clothes and accessories. I had the most fun with the dolls not when I collected them, but playing with them and the girls. I enjoy watching the videos on KZread of the kids and women playing with the dolls and fixing them and their hair! I kept my Molly doll into adulthood and then started to sew doll clothes as an adult, my daughter also was into them for a brief period and I couldn't afford to get her an American Girl brand, but got her a My Generation doll at Target and the accessories for the Ice cream shop. We had fun playing with the dolls and I let my daughter play with my Molly Mcintire. My Molly ended up getting destroyed, like my daughter ruined her hair and glasses, and she also was damaged by my dog a few years ago and I lost her. My dog got a hold of her and chewed her leg. I was going to get her to the doll hospital, but I ended up losing the doll and all the clothing my grandma made. My grandma died a few years ago and was a wonderful person and sewed so well. The things I lost are not replaceable, but needless to say, now that I'm in a better place financially, I plan on getting Molly and Samantha back and all the accessories!

This was a lovely video - I had to laugh at the beginning, I'm one of those sorts of collectors! ;) And fwiw, since you said to "fact check you", you were all spot on, except your musing about #61 no longer being available - she indeed is still being produced and can be bought direct from AG. I'd love to see more videos like this, listen to you discuss the history, and in doing so, show off your collection. I might recommend that you write up a outline, and go through things by topic - like a video on just the Girls of the Year with a little summary of their story, tell us about their collection, and show us what, if anything, you have of those - just as an example. I'd recommend using the American Girl wiki to fill in any information you might need - it's really thorough.

Hi Lori! Thank you for the fun video and stroll down memory lane. My oldest daughter was born in 2001 as well and I bought her doll at the American Girl store in NYC on my first and only trip to the Big Apple. We then bought one for my second daughter. I am scouting the house to find their dolls now-I know I saved them somewhere! Now that they are growing up I definitely treasure the days when they could just be little girls! (In my mad search for the dolls I did find the thrifted CHANEL scarf that they used for a doll blanket and ruined with silly putty! 😱 That was a sad day! My one and only CHANEL find to this day! 🤪).

Former employee here and collector for 25 years. Anything from the historical lines are usually worth more. Especially in original packaging the white and brown boxes are from the late 80s early 90s. Its very rare to find some of the small historical accessory sets complete with all pieces that were often over looked. Any item or doll that was only available for short period of time obviously will be worth much more. For example Marie grace and Cecile where only available for like 3 and a half years before retiring. Also they had very curly hair which was a challenge to maintain so its hard to find them in mint condition. Pleasant Company original historical dolls however are not worth as much as you might think because they were sold for years before being retired. Some of the original Just like you dolls actually are worth more like #4 which once again they stopped making after only a few years.

I sew doll clothes and I use my daughter’s old Kit doll as a model. I was browsing at goodwill today, and I usually look at the dolls because I needed a couple of stands… Lo and behold… I spied a doll that looked an awful lot like Kirsten. I couldn’t believe it when I picked her up and saw the Pleasant Company on her neck! (And the $4 price tag made me smile.) She has the softer vinyl (skin tone body), and the wider feet, so I do believe that she is pre 2000. She has a hospital band from the AG store, and her strings are gone, so I’m guessing she had her limbs tightened. I am not really interested in reselling, but adding her as a model for my sewing!!

Hi Lori, I just found this Video... I used to be a Huge Vintage Barbie Collector because I grew up with them and loved them so much. I only have a son who is now 33 and a 4 yr old grandson and I didn't have anyone to buy dolls for, so that is when I started collecting Barbie which was back in 1995. I then started buying and selling on Ebay to find more dolls for my collection, and to also sell what I didn't need or want back in 1997..I was so shocked when I found this video with You, because I have a store on EBay now and have watched some of your Haul videos over the last yr. and had no idea that you were an AG collector...The reason I found this particular video is because I have now bought 5 American Girl Childhood Collections ( the way I did when I collected Vintage Barbies) and I Have fallen in love with these dolls, and have now kept 7 of them so far.... which was Not something that I Had intended on doing. LOL....The past few weeks I have been doing research on AG so that I could learn what to look for in these dolls and outfits for resale and at the same time I am becoming addicted to them for myself... Anyway just wanted to let you know that I loved this and look forward to seeing more content about AG. I think it was really cool that you worked at an AG store. The closest one to us is the one in Orlando Fl, and I told my husband that the next time that we go there, I want to go into that store. I have never been in an AG store before... but from what I Have seen online they look like a lot of fun!! Sorry that this is so long, but again I just wanted to let you know what a great job that you did!!! :) Carol

Hi Carol. I loved reading your message. It's so fun to know that you saw some of my reselling videos and then came back for this one! AG dolls are pretty magical. I love the history of these dolls and I continue to collect them, years after our store closed. I have never been to the Orlando store. I hope you get to visit one day. The experience is really nice! I hope to make more AG videos soon. Thanks so much for watching!

I am now up to 14 AG's but I am going to have to stop soon since my Chaise Lounge is getting too full with these girls. We now live in a High Rise and my room for dolls is limited....LOL... Hoping to go to Orlando next mos and as I mentioned in my last note this will be my first time at an AG store... My first doll was Molly I want to say back in 1997 and my sister had Samantha and Josefina which I later acquired. However Felicity was always and will be my favorite. I've always loved her clothes and her auburn hair. She also introduced me into Colonial North America which has been one of my favorite era to learn about. I owe it all to American Girl for my love of history. I received my BA in History back in 2016 and I volunteer at a local homestead. Will never get rid of my dolls, I have 6 and people are amazed I have that many when it reality people have more. (I also live North of Boston so we live close to one another!)

Please do another one of these! My family didn't have a ton of extra money growing up, but my grandmother would get all the granddaughters a American girl doll of Christmas, and then we would show her the outfits in the catalogs that we liked and she would hand sew them for us. I have Kirsten that I got in 1996 and then when I was older (10 or 11?) I got Kit which was so interesting because I started asking my grandmother about her childhood during the depression. My older sister had Molly but when she aged out of playing with her I kinda claimed her...I had always pictured passing my dolls down to my daughters but I have two sons and may not ever have a daughter. I would be willing to sell, but is there any value in hand sewn clothing replicas? My favorite was my millennium new years outfit that celebrated the start of the 21st century. It had sequined leggings and a velvet fur lined dress...it was really cute :)

Thank you for all this great information. Addy's wardrobe is my favorite. I bought my daughter a Samantha doll around 1992 and she had most of the collection but she lost the entire collection -- ugh. Long story. She had the play book and she put on a play with her neighborhood friends. When I got grandchildren, I bought them each a doll - Kit, Ruthie, and MaryEllen. Then I bought dolls for me - Rebecca, Blaire, Tenney, the reproduction of the Pleasant Co. Samantha, Marie Grace, and a blond boy doll. I think the historic dolls and girl of the year dolls have better (thicker) hair than the truly me dolls. I collect handmade outfits, focused on reproductions of historic outfits, especially the Edwardian period as I have Rebecca and Samantha. I try not to add too much to my collection. I periodically clear out the bigger items - like I had the Edwardian tricycle and I had table and chair sets.

Absolutely loved this video! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I would love to know what that local annual consignment of PC/AG is!! I have a 91 Felicity that started my love of PC/AG. I would absolutely loved to see videos each focusing on one individual historical doll, with details of when they were released, what the original 1st release clothing, accessories, furniture, etc. was. I have a feeling I could easily lose hours viewing your collection. If you get around to selling, would love to see videos of you going through the collection and picking out items to sell, how you determine how to sell (individual vs set, large collection etc). Any tips on how to find "Dress Like Your Doll" historical doll girl size outfits. We do an annual Colonial Williamsburg trip and my 5yo would love Felicity would totally flip to dress just like her, but darn if they aren't incredibly hard to find!

Hello! I really enjoyed this video. I'm looking to sell my dolls soon as I have outgrown them. I have the 2009 doll of the year as well as her friends Solali and Gwenn. I would def be interested in hearing about the girls of the year as well as which accessories are valuable. Thanks!

I went to the Goodwill bins for the first time and there was an American Girl Doll. Her cloth body is almost spotless. She only has a couple of tiny spots on her arms. Her hair is excellent. But, she has a Left eye the turns outside a little bit and then won’t open and close all the way. I can not find her on any sites that I have looked at. She has dark brown straight hair just passed the shoulders and no bangs. She has blue eyes. Her body is tan and her skin is medium tone. She says American Girl LLC with a thin string. She has a satin side tag that has Made in China for American Girl with the other satin tag with a number 0789SJ, which I think doesn’t mean anything for identification. After watching your video, I tested her legs and they are tight and don’t droop at all. Do you know her name and year released? I have watched videos about how to carefully blow in her eye socket for debris and also how to carefully heat her head and take her eye out and then replace it. Not sure when I will do that. Thanks so much.

I love this so much! I am definitely in love with the #4 American girl today doll. Does the one you have, have dreamer eyes? Thank you for all the excellent information! I've learned so much more from someone who is entertaining and informative than from a dry reading lol : ) Most informative AG video I've seen! Would love to see another video from you about the variations such as molds, eyes and how the same doll from ten years ago has evolved in the face and clothes, and any other info you think is important for newbies to know. I didn't have one growing up and am glad to refind them now as an adult and can buy my own
