American Gangster: Diluting the brand (HD CLIP)

Ойын-сауық

What’s happening in this American Gangster movie clip?
Frank (Denzel Washington from The Equalizer and Malcolm X) comes to see Nicky (Cuba Gooding from What dreams may come) to ask him to stop diluting the brand, or at least put another name on the merchandise. Nicky is upset to be treated like that in his own club. Later, Huey (Chiwetel Ejiofor from Doctor Strange and Inside Man) and Frank are arrested by the cops, whereas they have merchandise in the trunk. The cops accept to say nothing because Frank gives them money. Other cops are watching the scene.

What’s the American Gangster movie about?
Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington from The Equalizer and Malcolm X) decides to take over his boss's business after he died. He becomes a powerful drug dealer, who manages to overcome the American mafia thanks to a new strategy: he starts selling heroin directly imported from Vietnam half the price of other dealers, while his quality is much higher. This drug, Blue Magic, is making its success. But Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe from Gladiator and Man of Steel), a New York cop who lost his teammate to an overdose, is going to try to bring him down.

With respect to Mr. Washington, there is NO denying that he is a GOOD actor but, the reason he is compared to Sidney Poitier is the fact that both men carry themselves in a way that says: Respect. Neither one of them demands nor asks for our respect, they just exude it. Neither is a braggart that demands attention or an absent minded fool, bumbling along.

Ending with his last words of the scene where he sounded like a kid that is mad because he is not respected, even tho he didn’t deserved that. A true gangster would have been understanding the situation real quick and would have come with something better than “I buy it, i own it” as he should have known that even in commerce you would be unable to buy 100 bottles of pepsi, mix it with fanta and then selling them as Pepsi. It’s just good logic that helps avoiding chaos, which every true gangster needs and should want to follow. That makes the difference between a Don and a mindless criminal.

Real story some may remember. The shooter was the father of a boy sexually abused by the prisoner and he didn't think the sentence handed out was enough so he took care of him himself (ruining his life then too). An extremely legend of a film, that should be known even more, and receive more credits for its dynamics. Such an amazing storyline, characters, soundtrack and led by two legendary actors, Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe who brought so much emotion, and action to it. What makes the film even greater is the many lessons and lines that are brought up, and what's even greater is how it's based on a true story. Honestly, worth watching no matter what. Old age has nothing to do with knowing and seeing that the quality of actors has gone down as the years go by. Name a actor or actress that can compare to greats like Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Mel Gibson as controversy as he is you can’t take away the fact he is a good actor. Morgan Freeman, etc. It seems Hollywood and even the music industry are more focused on how a person looks face and body wise but I would say 95% of your best actors and actresses were regular average looking people but had beautiful seasoned acting skills.

I think Cuba was genuinely mad. He had shown a lot of restraint in simply agreeing to Frank’s request to change the name, but when Frank said “catch you” that implied he (Frank) was the boss and Cuba was doing something sneaky. I get why he got pissed enough to throw the glass. Frank was also testing him a bit with that authoritative language and so when Cuba barked back he (Frank) smiled because he knew their was still a “line” he should respect. In any case, great movie.

True, also back then Lucas would not dare step to Barnes like that.

Totally agree. Lucas was backwoods ignorant compared to Barnes which is why Denzels depiction just isn't convincing to me. Its just Denzel playing a bad guy but its still Denzel.

Yeah that’s how the story really went. But we all know Hollywood is going to make Denzel look like a badass. Good movie overall, just wasn’t historical accurate.

@Thunder Lightening I am trusting the testimony of people who were there like Pee Wee Kirkland and others who said Nicky and his team were stronger muscle wise than Frank Lucas.

Denzel is without doubt the best actor of the last 30 years, better than many other so called greats. When I mean to catch a little clip of him in some movie I always end up watching the whole damn movie, regardless of time of day 😂

consistently great, he's really found his stride with certain roles, but he's fallen in to the trap of being fairly narrow. For that reason alone, we couldn't say he was the best, consider, Will Smith, Jamie Fox, Leonardo Di Caprio, Brad Pit, Jonah Hill, Samuel L Jackson, John Travolta, Daniel Craig.... and I'm just getting started. All of them talente,d all of them with better range, but I'd agree in this niche, Denz is by far the best.
