My nephew is a Royal Marine; my proudest moment was when he came home for my Mum's funeral, in uniform, and was one of her pall-bearers. (he had been overseas on manœuvres when Mum died and we didn't know whether he'd get home and be allowed out [covid] to be with family.)

Top Secret Drum Corps is a drum corps based in Basel, Switzerland. With 25 drummers and color guard section, the corps became famous for its demanding six-minute routine performed at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2003. With its invitation to Edinburgh, Top Secret became one of the first non-military, non-British Commonwealth acts to perform on the Esplanade at Edinburgh Castle.

Also, all members of Top Secret have civilian fulltime jobs, they are not in the military. Drumming is their hobby. To see more of them, just search for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo's of the previous years.

My dad was a Royal Marine with both 40 and 42 Commando. My proudest, and saddest, moment was at his funeral, when the Marine Bugler played Sunset in the church. Apparently, he'd practised by playing at Margaret Thatcher's funeral the day before.

This performance is already mind-blowing, but it actually goes to a whole other level when you know that this performance is not the result of months or even weeks of choreography and practice, but rather the Swiss I believe flew in to the UK just the day before, and the time to practice together was at most just a couple of hours. To me, the level you have to already be at to so quickly pick up a whole routine, especially one that uses moves entirely alien to the traditions of a Corps of Drums and not just confidently give such an important performance, but to do so with such flawless precision that you can't believe this is not the result of months or years of shared drills... Insane.

Hi Natasha and Debbie . This was absolutely epic, I have watched this video many times and never get bored of it, it gets the adrenaline pumping for sure lol Just a quick note about the top secret drum corp from Switzerland, they are NON military and not part of the British commonwealth but since they were invited to play at the Royal Edinburgh tattoo in 2003, they have become quite a sensation and have played drums alongside the British Royal Marines on numerous occasions, as for the Royal Marines, who are active servicemen in the royal Marines, they are just pure precision and talent on every level.

glad you like it. The top Secret Drum corp are civilians from Switzerland, world famous. The Royal Marines Band Service also have other duties being military, so trained medics, plus all of them play at least two other instruments, plus, the drummers would have, in the past gone into battle to pass messages via their bugles! In my view, (I'm biased being a former Royal Marine Commando) our band is the best military band in the world.

Being former member of HM Royal Marines Corps of Drums, I am thrilled that you love this. An insider piece of info that you might find interesting is that the white cotton gloves worn by the RM Buglers (yes, all members of the Corps of Drums are referred to as Buglers) make holding the white gloss painted sticks difficult. We used to dampen them with clean water in order to aid grip. It was okay in warm weather but it was certainly felt in cold weather or on a cool evening.

As far as I am aware the Top Secret Drum Corps are not serving military. They are a military style drum team. The Royal Marines of course are serving soldiers as you can see by the medals and ranks on their uniforms. Both are awesome though and I bet they had a lot of fun working together. I suspect the reason US Marine uniforms are similar to Royal Marine uniforms are for obvious historical origin reasons.

Swedish Military Drummers is hilarious, assuming that you meant the Swiss Top Secret Drum Corps, who are actually all civilians with day jobs, not military. :) That they are *not* military does not in any way diminish their standing. Being civilians with all the normal duties of life and families, yet still putting in the insane amount of practice that this level of skill and synchronicity takes is still an amazing attainment. Just as the Royal Marines Marching Band and Corps of Drums must still perform all the training, drills, and duties of being Royal Marines.

The show was fantastic, but this, and the display from Azerbaijan were incredible and highlights. I was also blown away by the artillery carriage display and the speed and skill of the horses and riders. The Swiss drummers are civilians who drum part time...they have regular day jobs, which makes them all the more impressive. When they drummed with the British military drummers (The Royal Marines Corps of Drums) and integrated their routines with each other it was fantastic. They are one of the very, very few acts that are so good they have been repeatedly invited to the Edinburgh Military Tatoo despite not being affiliated or part of the Swiss military.

I showed the locals this(Lesvos) and they reacted the same as you! Royal Marines history starts in 1664! Secret Swiss are actually civilians who got together and play brilliantly, I’m ex Royal Navy and I’ll always be biased……but Secret Swiss are something else👍

I’m an Ex British Soldier, I have a friend who is an American Marine, Deepest respect to your Father . I’m not sure if you’ve ever heard of the Edinburgh Tattoo ( from Edinburgh Castle) where members of the British armed forces and invited guests put on displays and demonstrations of their skills I don’t know if there are any clips on KZread as I’ve never searched for it before but you’ll love the military bands/ corps of drums…or maybe the festival of rememberence. Just Amazing, what precision. I would Love to see that Live. Another Topic That I think you would Love is The Royal Navy Field Gun Team from The Royal Tournament. They don`t do it anymore but it is just Epic in terms of sheer strength and Teamwork. Thanks for that one Girls 👍

@@wessexdruid7598 I didn`t know they still did the Field gun, I thought it died with The Royal Tournament. A friend of mine did it when he was in The Navy, I think he was in The Portsmouth team if I recall. He had one of the Wheel Cotter pins as a souvenir.

There were two forms of navy field gun competition, Command Field Gun and Brickswood Field Gun. The Command Field Gun competition ran during The Royal Tournament (which ceased in 1999) and Brickswood runs at HMS Collingwood (It is now called the The Royal Navy Field Gun Competition and still runs annually). There is a company that is trying to resurrect Command Field Gun for civilian athletes (Field Gun Sport)

The secret drum core are not military at all ,they are just normal people that are fantastic at drumming. By all accounts the Queen absolutely loved them 💕🥰🇬🇧

I was there at the Royal Albert Hall and saw this live. I played drums at school, (and it’s a bit like riding bike, you don’t forget!). Seeing this live was a massive highlight. The energy was incredible. The Swiss group aren’t military, but are an amazingly good drum line, (and have performed all over the world). The Royal Marines speak for themselves. Just brilliant.

My late Dad was in the Royal Marines during WW2 & he always said that the R M band was the best .... a source of some teasing from my Mum who used to say "All Bow" when they appeared anywhere ..... but we all came to realise (teasing aside) that the reason my Dad was so proud of these musicians was that they were serving Marines who fought alongside him ..... Hearing them still brings a tear to my eye - and I love your reaction 💖

Each Regiment in the British Army has a corps of drums. They were an essential part of war hundreds of years ago along with the bugle to signal commands on the battlefield. I was in the corps of drums in the Royal Anglian Regiment when serving and we did shows around our local area, but, this is something else and special. I love your reaction to it and your other videos.

Top Secret are probably the finest civilian drum corps in the world - and the RM Corps of Drums probably the finest military one. They’ve performed together a few times, and it’s always a cracking show. Look for the RM drum and bugle display if you want a real treat. You might also enjoy the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a yearly series of tattoos at Edinburgh Castle. Always a great show, with mostly military bands and performers from around the world - and always a display by the massed bands at the end. If you liked this video, you’re in for a real treat.

I got teary eyed from the moment the Royal Marines stepped up on stage alongside Top Secret because I have watch both of these ensembles regularly and to see them joining forces filled my musical heart to overflowing. You two are awesome as well. I'm a new fan!
