Korean guy: What is San Francisco famous for? Me: You don't wanna know...
Wow its my first time seeing American kids speak Korean that fluently. I only saw Korean kids move to the US and speak English fluently. The environment really matters and it can come naturally. Now I understand why some parents have sent their kids to other countries for the advantages they can get. Those who have a chance to study abroad and become bilingual are lucky

It depends on the parents. Kids have the natural ability to speed learn languages. It's a very important trait that we got from evolution. It's just that Westerners don't integrate and form "ghettos" or what they call "enclaves" and keep away from the public aside from work or tourism. It's hypocrisy considering how much they whine about immigrants not integrating or learning the local language and culture.
@presidentxiftw7495
5 жыл бұрын
Because there's no reason for them to choose Korean of all languages. it has a relatively small number of native speakers and to make it worse, it's kind of an isolated language spoken only in Korean peninsula unlike international languages such as English and Spanish. So why would they go with Korean when they have way more appealing choices like Spanish, Mandarin or Japanese(if they're particularly looking to learn Asian languages)? I'm Korean but if I weren't Korean and had to learn a new language, I wouldn't definitely pick Korean unless I'm planning on moving to Korea or something.

@NeonEyes what i dont understand though is the expectation for travelers or tourists to know the language. Ive seen some koreans get mad at people who visit korea for not knowing the language. Here in America it usually isnt like that, you can speak whatever language and we dont really care. I guess any country will have those nationalistic people who believe that everyone needs to know the language if they want to come.

Really?! I was always told that Japanese is difficult by everyone then they proceeded to tell me my Japanese is skillful after one word. I'd always tell them good luck in their studies since they think their own language is too difficult to learn.

There's a huge difference between learning a language when an adult or teen vs when really young. Young kids absorb knowledge like a sponge without much effort.

Juicy Pear that’s right. I was seven when my family moved to Sweden and it literally took my siblings and I 5 months to master the Swedish language.

It’s better to learn another language when you’re still learn your native language. A child brain is very different from an adolescent/adult. It’s more elastic and they can absorb knowledge like a sponge whereas adults also have other things occupying their mind so we have to determine what is most important and what we throw away.

Yes. It's been proven that young brains are able to learn easier than older ones, even in the teen years it becomes more difficult. That's why most countries (not the US unfortunately) start in elementary school and do around 2-3 additional languages.
마지막 여자분 영어가 원어민급이네요.애들한테 자상하기도하고 참 착해보여요.
Those boys have a lot of character. Good luck to them!

HeHasHivemind since they’re foreigners in Korea, asking about Korea would be one of the easiest icebreakers. I say the same thing when family and friends living in other countries visit my country, like if they’re enjoying the weather and culture etc.

Good for them! It's easier to learn a new language when young and easier to learn another once you've learned a second. I'm a bit envious because getting to live in a different culture like that will be something that will help them throughout their lives.
when u were born in korea and can’t speak it but these boys speak better. i need to study hard af no

It is usually like that when you live in foreign country, especially in Asian countries and you look like a foreigner. People are not used to it, and how we make small talk about the weather with somebody we don’t know, they ask about the food and how you came here. It’s simply politeness and small talk that’s why they are asking there is no ill will there :) At least in my experience
