Here’s the reason: the vast majority of basketball clubs in Europe are owned by the fans. Clubs are part of the neighborhood, city, country as much as Americans are fond of Apple Pie. People are emotionally, financially and historically invested. It’s constant singing for the entirety of the game. Best put this way: it’s a soccer atmosphere in an enclosed arena. Not that weaksauce shit: de-de-nce… no high school , college or NBA atmosphere can compare.

Yes, and price of tickets plays a big part too. Look at British football... hooligans were everywhere, on all the games, causing havoc, fighting etc since the 70's. That all changed after they started privatizing clubs. Now the hooligans are gone as working class can't afford to go to regular EPL games. Now when you see Chelsea or Arsenal play you can't barely hear the fans. Similar to the NBA

Basket ball "franchises" in USA are simply a courtain to hide people goe there to eat pop corn, colas with hot dogs and other junk stuff. They have to accompany the game with piano notes, cheer liders, clowns .... and things which have nothing to do with the "sport" to try and keep peoples eyes away from the pop corn buckets...... ha ha ha .... In Europe people attending basket ball follow it with such a passion (same as football) that their stomacks can t admit anything and the match is well over and they have left the stadium way far back. Some nites they can t even sleep if the result has nt been the desired one.

The ownership of a given club has nothing to do with hooliganism. 2. The lack of hooliganism has nothing to do with the price of tickets. Hooliganism was stamped out as part of a deliberate campaign by the clubs, the football authorities and the government as a result of thugs going too far with their shit in the mid 80s. Piraeus (Olympiacos home) is the biggest port in Greece located just outside the center of Athens, Panathinaikos is the "Athenian" club along with AEK but they are basically the two fanbases fighting for dominance in the area. It doesn't get much crazier than those derbies as the players themselves have stated in these videos. And historically they have both been elite clubs in Europe so the best players have played in those derbies which always ads to the level

If i was a bored american or western european i would rather visit these Balkans derbies, something like a tourist schedule :D . I guarantee quality experience that will stay forever :D no joking. Also some of them will get addicted if they get lucky enough to visit emotional and intensive game. I'll never forget my 1st match, long back in 2005 when i was 14. The feelings in the stomach and that whole explosion of emotions i had can't be described with words. So i got somehow addicted to these emotions, it was and it is something so special that only people who known and felt it can understand... Also important and meaningful things for every men's character have been learnt at the stadium. I understood what is loyalty, honor and respect at the stadium ... not at school, neither anybody else. That's why the media tries to make football fans look so bad and try to scare normal people who know nothing at all... Actually the cup final game they r talking about with the flare on Hines..the game took place in a stadium supposed to be neutral ground..and they allowed fans from both sides...which is very rare especially between PAO-Olympiakos..organized fans of both sides are not allowed in Greece in any sport..coz there will be dead people on the stands..this shit is serious..when u go to see a game..dont u ever make the mistake to wear the opposite team's jersey..not even at the streets...

Basketball is much more intense, as football can be monotone. In basketball you ride waves of energy when your team goes on a run, plus fans are right next to court you can literally feel cemment shaking a bit. Down there.
