    Mickey was at the very end of their big run. I think he played on their final regular non greatest hits album "American Pastime" which had only one cut from Danny Hutton that was left over from previous album and mostly Corry and Chuck doing vocals. A great LP and very much in line with the disco sound but it did not sell like the other albums.

    The Kroft Supershow was my best Saturday morning show when they came out in 1976. Michael Lembeck and the rest of the band was the coolest and perfect for that era. I watched the show and my favorite was Magic Mongo. But in 1978 Kaptain & The Kongs was replaced by the Bay City Rollers! I stopped watching the show. The era was perfect for Kaptain Kool & The Kongs. It coincided with the popularity of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal groups like KISS, Alice Cooper, and Angel.

(The question that should now be asked--->Did he ever--from circa September 1977 onwards--ever publicly repudiate what he said; on this specific American Bandstand episode? [I will now presume that Bert did not have a subsequent oppourtunity to perform a song--as a solo artist--on this specific TV show.])

    Everyone loved Superchick but Nashville was just as sexy

  • @robertorick6383

    @robertorick6383

    Ай бұрын

    I agree. Nashville (played by Louise DuArt) was sexy. I love cowgirls, even "glitter' cowgirls, and Nashville represented it. By season two, she changed her look and wardrobe by wearing denim, and she lost the cowgirl hat and went hatless, though she still had her mini-afro, though it was no longer colored blue, and was slightly bigger than it was in the first season. Her afro went from blue to au-natural brown by 1978. The band itself was a cross-examination of KISS with Fonz of "Happy Days", though their music was more pop-oriented than KISS. Superchick was fine, but give me Nashville any time. I was 8 years old when the band debuted on ABC TV.

    Mick as Turkey, was a kids version of Gene Simmons.

  • @robertorick6383

    @robertorick6383

    That is, a much less vulgar version of Gene Simmons. Gene could be extremely outrageous in his opinions at times, Mickey McMeel A/K/A "Turkey" was much more loveable. Bert Sommer, who played the role of "Flatbush" was originally a hippie singer/ songwriter from the late 60's who recorded for Buddah Records, and appeared at "Woodstock" in 1969, though he didn't get much of a headline act. "Kaptain Kool & The Kongs" was an attempt for Bert to change with the times in the mid-70's, and change from hippie singer to glam pop star. Bert passed away a number of years ago (1990), and is well remembered by those who grew up with him. R.I.P., Bert.

    I agree. Though Nashville was hot stuff to me, Superchick was personally picked by Sid & Marty and the ABC staff to be the heartthrob idol for the boys in the audience. I didn't care, to 8-year old me, cowgirls were hot, and Nashville was a sexy chick in her own right. Even as she changed her costume and wardrobe during the second season, she was still a hottie. The Native American cowgirl on "Bigfoot & Wildboy" was also super hot. I loved the way she rode her horse in the episodes.

    Communist propaganda. “You’ve all done serious musical things in your life, so how do you feel about this crazy get-up?” The speaker was told exactly what to say. He was implying that “art” is political. It’s serious! And since Art (in this case as music) is serious and political, it should naturally be controlled by the government. Any art outside of government boundaries is crazy. It’s not even worth considering. So it’s excommunicated.
