American Airlines B787-9 Main Cabin Extra - Anchorage to Chicago
Sadly, the Alaska Arctic Adventure (of 2021) had come to an end and it was time to head back down to the Lower 48 with a flight aboard American Airlines' B787-9 Dreamliner to Chicago from Anchorage. Due to my status with AA, I was able to upgrade to Main Cabin Extra and got extremely lucky due to extenuating circumstances with a whole row for myself, really letting me have an excellent red-eye experience on the 5 1/2 ride. Sure it always can be better and maybe a business class seat would've allowed me some additional real sleep, but I can't complain, especially with all the passengers moving over to our plane from the cancelled DFW flight. This video probably shows American when things go perfectly right for once. Hope you guys enjoy!

love your vid
I flew the 787 for the first time last year to Chicago on Premium Economy. It was the 8. Such a nice and comfortable aircraft but the 767 will still be my favorite wide-body!
Great video presentation, Chris! Keep up the good work!
I did the 787 internationally around the same time last year (8/1/21) from GYE to MIA - also a red eye. It honestly was about the same as experience as your trip, except the FAs ghosted us after the drink service. At the time, they weren't serving food on shorter routes (this one being only 4). It was my 1st trip on a 787, so I enjoyed it. However any longer than 4 hours with no service would have been a bit tougher. Good video!
Congratulations on 25K subscribers. You definitely earned them.

I agree, I've been on those flights also. There's some great scenery from overhead during the first part of the flight from Anchorage, the snowcapped mountain ranges off the south coast of Alaska and the Northern Rockies in British Columbia
that was a good class !
Cool hope you had a good time
Ive never been to Alaska.Good job
Love the wide body planes
I flew the 787 from Heathrow to Chicago O,Hare in 2019 great aircraft very comfortable would definitely fly American again
Ever since you changed your video format to the voiceover etc. These videos are honestly really good. Great work my guy!

lucky, the flight from DFW-ANC is a a321neo, and AA’s cost cutting cabin kinda sucks. i would fly on a 787 instead of a American Airlines a321neo any day.
At least you were on a widebody for a red eye

I live in Chicago so I get the opportunity to fly on All these amazing planes Nonstop thanks Chicago O,Hare
I like the video so much its very good
My experience on the 787 international is limited. In 2005, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2019 we flew from OKC to either Paris, London, Dublin or Shannon with most of the flights so bad I swore I would never do it again. Except the one trip we flew on a 787. I recall thinking this is nice, I can do this every year. We were deep in economy but it was great. Last November were were scheduled into Paris and out of Munich via 787s in Business class. I scored a pair of seats for less than half the points needed today. Weeks before our trip, AA dropped the DFW to CDG route and no longer served Munich. We ended up in business from JFK to CDG on a 777-200 and London to DFW in business on a 777-300. I really enjoyed BC, so did my wife. I had enough points to get us back to Paris this September and back from Dublin. We will be in main cabin extra, as she has status that allows us to pick at time of booking, on a 787-8 and 787-9. We play the odds of picking the isle and window and leaving the center open. So far, both flights look good. I hope that AA does not cancel this route again and dump us on another flight. It will be interesting to see if we can handle the coach seats after flying business.
Awesome I be flying with them I May from London to Chicago 787/9
Great place for drinks.
I flew it from DFW to Philly, and from Mia to DFW , I CAN NOT DO , economy it’s was to tight back there ! 🤣🤣🤣 , but love the plane ✈️, definitely a smoothy ride
The 797 Dreamliner was great on British Airways London Heathrow to Baltimore Washington International. Totally full but the greatest care from the staff at British Airways. Honestly from 1 to 10 they got 9 plus.
11:28 at this moment, you were basically directly over my hometown. That plane is right over north central WI (Wausau/Stevens Point), so right through my home skies. I lucked out in that so many flights to and from chicago use a similar path across the state, so I'd always be able to look up and, on a clear day, see a 747 Freighter bound for China via ANC or a Widebody Passenger jet like the 787 you flew. I would always pull up FR24 to see what it was.
I love your videos and you do a great job on them and way to go by getting 33.3k subscribers on your channel
I flew 787 Dreamliner. Few months AGO AMERCAN.- DFW-OGG -7hours , 42 min. Pretty nice ride Just like you been lucky whole roll myself, informative flight deck crew, FA crew was B+ maybe, I am going to have a diffrent airplane In 2 weeks , - MCO-HNL , airbus 330-LR ,3rd longest run in US Clocking in at approximately 9 hours 38 minutes , depart mid morning , arrival HNL early afternoon, taking flt, before. Just Know if i have seat mate they will not be happy , my Window shade Is not comiing down for whole flight . Will be traveling against the rotation of earth , the sun Will be Very plentyful. Rest asure.. Love your Alaska Airlines coverage. Former employée with Alaska 7 years , based : KTN, OME, ANC,OTZ.
I flew DFW-ANC on an American 787-8 back in 2019 in Main Cabin Extra back then alcohol was complimentary
I flew on American 787-8 premium economy from ORD to LHR in 2017…the leg room was great, but the seat width was pretty tight & at times uncomfortable IMO.
I love all of your videos and love traveling

I actually like using my own device. That way I can use my bluetooth headset and I don't need to worry about the screen not working.
Definitely agree that AA should add IFE screens to more aircraft, especially the new A321neos. Got stuck in a middle seat on one earlier this year from PHX to DCA and would have literally died of boredom without the wifi lol.

LUS fleet never had IFE. So it was cheaper to rip them out of AA fleet than add it to LUS. Doug Parker could care less if passengers are happy. Would not be surprised if AA removed them from 787 and 777 fleet. AA actually ranks below Spirit airlines

Our 319 sharklet birds have PTVs. Sadly they took them out of the 321 sharklet birds and not installed on the NEOs. Wish they would bring them back on at least the bigger narrow body fleets.

Nice video.. What are your thoughts on being dead center over the wing? It's a huge wing..personally feels claustrophobic to me..so it's wierd the premium seats have the worst view? Safe travels
2021 was a mess with air travel with cancelled flights etc. with everything reopening back up again
I remember taking AA1488 on my own trip up there. Great crew sucks the windows got locked but great service minus nothing except a single biscoff the entire flight which is kinda messed up for a flight that long.

American had to release a Memo to inflight crews demanding them to not dim-lock the windows. Yet, some crew still ignore it. Worst feature ever was to add that dim-lock!

@@sju_planespotter yeah it was after too and was dim locked anyway. I believe only the 9s and 10s have that feature because never had an issue on the 787-8

I don’t understand why American Airlines can spare some of their finances on ire screens I flew on a 5 30 min flight HNL to LAX and if I was in the aisle or middle row I would have lost my mind considering I like aviation luckily I was able to stare outside in the window
I purchased the premium but I am really thinking of changing it main extra (plus) After speaking to AMEX customer service, she basically made me feel like it was the same..It was a difference of 700 . This my first long haul from MIA to VCE (Venice). (with one stop) From past travelers who have traveled a long haul. What do you recommend? The premium economy (PE) has the same leg room as the Main Cabin Extra which I did not know. I thought the PE recliner had a few more inches than the Main Cabin Extra.. and the space is 6 inches for both PE and Main Cabin Extra.
Aren’t alcoholic drinks complimentary in main cabin extra?

Anchorage needs to expand their terminals because of the widebodies coming into their airport
@alvexok5523
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, a flight from Anchorage to somewhere as far as Atlanta, or Houston or Miami may need a widebody to carry enough fuel to go the complete route non-stop. At 2:07, (and in other videos) I noticed that Alaskan Airlines only carries the Embraer-175s in their fleet. I saw on the Departures that there's an Alaskan Airlines flight from Anchorage to Chicago O'Hare, can an Embraer-175 carry enough fuel for that route? I'd also thought there'd be more passengers for that route than what an E175 carries

The only possible issue with a 787 is the legroom the airline offers
Have not flown AA since the MD-80 days--doing an Alaska trip is on my bucket list, would include a RT on the Alaska RR Anchorage-Fairbanks--have zero experience with the 787 but found it odd that for a flight leaving just after 11pm local time, there was a fair amount of daylight! Does Justin have a YT channel ? Noticed you changed out your face mask midflight--seems like ancient history to see folks at ANC and ORD wearing face masks now that the federal mandate has been scrapped
you did not do the flight to jamaica and vlog for 10k likes and 1mil viwes i am telling you it will work

They failed me. Left me stranded at the airport in Las Vegas even after I had checked in 5 hours prior to the departure, getting my bag tagged and loaded, and through TSA. I had to purchase another ticket $313 from another airline, fly to Dallas, have someone drive 4 hours to pick me up then drive to another 4 hours to get home. It’s unacceptable and this mistreatment needs to be rectified. (Short cut version)

What’s that have to do with anything?
I am an airline fan myself. I have a bunch of video I need to edit and upload. Hit me up if you ever want to take a plane trip together. My next trip is labor day weekend...to Minneapolis (with a special hotel room that has two windows, at different angles, facing the runway), then to Chicago, and finally to Ironwood, Michigan. I went to Barrow fore 4 hours last May, and I may spend a couple of days there next year.
"An F.A. who questioned my GoPro usage" so close, American. So close... one day I'll watch a JazzGuy13 AA Flight trip report video where all the F.A.s are fine with you filming and say nothing.
