Halsey is one of my favorite WW2 Admirals. Even he and Nimitz could see that the Navy had to stand and fight the Japanese navy in the waters off Guadalcanal to help the Marines. Whether it's submarines or fleet ships delivering aircraft. I would argue that subs in the slot mining it or risking their boats to torpedo and sink some Japanese ships(troop transports) would have been instrumental in helping them.

TEAM work. When all military forces focus as one combat team, things happen. Halsey brought the troops together. Nimitz made a smart decision sending Bromley somewhere else.
