America’s Old West! - Virginia City Near Reno, Nevada (The Silver State)

The old mining town of Virginia City, Nevada is just over 25 miles from the city of Reno. When you visit Virginia City you step back in time to the 1800s and the days of the silver and gold rush days.
The city was developed in 1859 after the discovery of the Comstock Lode, the first major silver deposit in the USA.
Nevada is officially known as the "Silver State" because of the importance of silver to its history and economy.
I visit the Chollar gold and silver Mine which was first staked in 1859, it’s meant to be haunted like a number of old sites around the city.
Zak Bagans and his fellow ghost hunters visited the Chollar Mine to investigate the alleged paranormal activity
Mark Twain was based in Virginia City at the Territorial Enterprise newspaper back in 1863.

Love VC. I go to Carson City from time to time for gas. It's about 30c per gallon less than Washoe county. I drive through for the eye candy. Absolutely check out as much as you can. The museum is a must see at least once.

Oh! There's so much intereting history in that little town. Brother, you didn't even scratch the top. I love it there. The two times I've been there have left me wanting more if it's wonder. Silly question, did you come across the Donkey with his Prospector? Lol! I don't know who's meaner of the two! Safe travels!

Yes, there was far more to see. No, I didn't see the prospector. It was a relatively quiet day when I visited. Glad I took the drive out from Reno.

I love Reno in the winter, but it is kind of a ghost town. Where are you spending Christmas? You mentioned Mark Twain, perhaps come to see the Big Trees in Calaveras, they are wonderful! The frog jump is in May so that is a ways off.

@@flydriveexplore The west is full of contrasts like the high desert around Reno and then mountains of forests, but you could just drive for days and never see it all. Good you made it back safe.

Sorry, you did not like Reno. It's a small city, having everything with lots of gambling. It also has Truckee River, a small river with lots of rocks in it. People who live near an ocean would likely laugh their heads off, while looking at it. Lake Tahoe is a much nicer resort area, with a beautiful huge fresh water lake.
